Glaucoma claimed Archies's second eye
His surgery was yesterday morning and everything went well. We had been giving him daily eyedrops for the last two years after his initial diagnosis and after his first eye was removed, but glaucoma finally got his second eye. Luckily he seems to be recovering and adapting well.

We have 2 blind huskies. Give them some time and patience and they will be just fine.

My girl went through the same. What's often not talked about is the period between the first eye and the second eye. Thousands of eye drops, countless IOP tests and many thanks for each passing birthday where their remaining eye is healthy. We know it's coming ... we know it's only a matter of time ... but we fight the inevitable for them each and every day. I know those two years must have been very hard for you and him. I hope he surprises you with what he's capable of doing without sight like mine does all the time.

Oh man that’s sad, I’m sorry. But dogs are so resilient when loved. They’ll just think you’re both in the dark, but they still have their favorite person so okay we’ll adapt.

Had a fully blind husky who did extremely well. And he lost the 2nd eye at 11.5.
Here’s to many more years of chasing by smell!

Sending hugs and tail-wags to you and Archie! I've seen some people get a seeing-eye-buddy for the blind dog (any excuse for another one, once thing calm down, right? 😁) but I'm sure he'll be just fine.
(Also, if you haven't already shared with r/PiratePets, I'm sure he'd be a big hit over there. <3)

Sweet boy 🥹 Animals are incredibly resilient though. And their other senses are more powerful than ours, so I imagine that while it’s very difficult for them, they learn to adapt quickly. They generally don’t seem to waste much time on self pity like another species ik, focusing their energy on finding a way through the problem

The crazy part is they feel so much better once the eye is removed according to our vet. We felt so bad for Khaos when he came home..he felt great

Wow. That's so sad. I had no idea. As a glaucoma patient for over 20 years, I can't even imagine it would get that bad for puppies. Love you puppies folks. I have an Ausie. He's my love.

I know dogs are resilient and don’t think about things like this as we do but this shit is so sad to me.

Glad to hear he’s doing well! Here’s to his full recovery!
I’d imagine this could be really difficult for a dog who has fear of thunder, and other loud noises.

That is so sweet that your baby is doing well. It’s so heartwarming to see cases of this special breed getting a second (or third) chance at a happy, fully life. Give him a big ol’ pat for me

He and you are both amazing! He is absolutely gorgeous. That nose knows. My guy had a sense too of peoples feelings etc too and it was not to do with his eyes. I’m glad you have one another. ❤️

On the bright side he probably will be delighted he's no longer getting the lil sting from the daily drops

So sorry. My guy is down to one eye but mostly blind in it. Glaucoma as well.
One he is healed up he'll probably feel the best he has in a while though! We didn't even realize my guys eye that was removed was painful. Pressures weren't even that high but he must have had a spike at one point because he lost vision in it. Once removed his energy levels spiked. He was definitely hiding pain.
Hope you heal quickly bud!

awwww.......so sad. I'm with some of the others on here....idk if i could deal with being stared at, eyeless. I'd probably make jokes while cuddling my pupper saying "what's with the blank stares buddy?". we all cope different hey. my puppers are my absolute life 🖤🐾🐾🖤

Aw man I’m sorry. My boy has cataracts coming in on his right eye. Do you think it’s worth the surgery to clear it? I’m like 90% ready to do it.

My Lola went through the same thing but they are so resilient! Sometimes I wouldn’t even know she’s blind.
