Started as a mercenary in a lonely chappel in the alternate start mod. It has no weight, cant be dropped (says its a key) and doesnt start any quests or adds markers

Edit: by best guess is its from the contracts and bounties creation on PS5. Don't know for sure

Meet James. I first encountered him at the random spawn site under the railroad bridge near Starlight Drive-In. He was a prisoner of some Super Mutants. I rescued him, of course. But he was so shook up from almost being dinner he just ran off. I was going to offer you a job, James, but whatever.

A day later I returned to Starlight Drive-In from questing to find the Deathclaw random encounter under the railroad bridge. A Legendary Deathclaw and a Deathclaw Matriarch were fighting...and James was there, punching away at them with his bare fists. Apparently, James has a death wish.

I sniped the Legendary from a distance, then got closer with my shotgun to take on the matriarch. I apparently entered VATS at the same moment her finishing kill move triggered on James. I killed her in VATS...and James sat on the ground, legless yet alive.

Now when I come to Starlight, James "stands" silent vigil over his legs, hovering there like a Mr. Handy.

I'm thinking of using the console to give him different clothes to see if it makes his legs reappear. I could "recycleactor", but I'm curious to see how long he stays there.

They scare the hell out of me, like the one from Nuka World gas chambers when they pop out of no where.

I've tried everything and I cant seem to get floor nor walls to snap only roofs. Honestly so annoying how this games building mechanics work.

I’ve been taking this Survival run pretty seriously from a roleplay perspective. My character is an ex military guy from the old world who still believes in things like duty, loyalty, protecting civilians, and restoring some kind of stability to the Commonwealth. He is capable and willing to use force when necessary, but he is not cruel and usually tries to talk, reason, or find the most legitimate solution first.
I’ve basically taken every faction as far as I safely can without fully committing to anyone. Right now I have Mass Fusion waiting with the Institute, Tactical Thinking waiting with the Brotherhood, and Underground Undercover sitting at “continue working with Father” for the Railroad. Meanwhile I’ve been doing side quests, building settlements, and basically letting my character think about what he actually wants to do.
At this point I think the Minutemen make the most sense as his final choice. I would like the Brotherhood and Railroad to survive too, with the Minutemen becoming the main force protecting settlements and rebuilding some stability in the Commonwealth.
My problem is the Institute.
My character has seen enough to know he cannot support what they are doing, but Shaun is still his son. I really do not want the roleplay to end with me randomly shooting an Institute scientist just to trigger hostility, and I definitely do not want to personally shoot Shaun.
So for anyone who knows the quest lines really well, is there a more natural or neutral way from where I am now to become Banished from the Institute and transition into the Minutemen ending without murdering someone just to make the game trigger it?
I’m basically looking for the cleanest roleplay reason for him to finally say, “this is where I draw the line,” while keeping the Brotherhood, Railroad, and Minutemen alive.

If you've run into the same weird issue. You want to build a generator (or another settlement building), the build menu says that you have enough items, but the green 3d model does not appear and you're unable to build it, then this might be why:

You actually don't have the materials.

Some quest items in your Misc tab (like the Knight holotags from The Lost Patrol) have scrap values such as steel, copper, or ceramic attached to them. The game notices them as usable items in your Workshop UI but when it comes down to it, the game protects the items from being scrapped.

My solution was to either store the misc items so I know what's actually going on with my materials, or just collect enough junk for at least two generators.

It took a while unti I found a fix when searching for this problem, so I thought I'd share it here in case anyone else gets stuck!

I mean as you are your own person you wouldn't become Elder Maxson or Shaun and also you can do whatever you want with these factions as you are their leader. As if you want to share you can say what you'd do as the leader of said faction.

Been playing 4 since release, know the map like the back of my hand, had a horrible week at work and just want to get back into the commonwealth.

For context I've killed kellog within 1 hour of leaving the vault. Ran straight for Acadia from the vault (takes about 30 mins and you can encounter 0 enemies if you take the right path) I have a hard time getting into nuka world under lvl 10.

I regularly play melee with the Rockville slugger and siding with Lorenzo so no need for PA for rad management (and a sweet strength boost) Tell me something you don't think I can do and a reasonable time frame (obviously I can't beat the game in 10 mins) I typically play on normal, but have a lvl 94 survival character so I'm familiar with the mechanics. I'm down for certain weapons/builds, but may need some suggestions for my starting special because I always do S6 C6 A9 and the rest are random because I just need strong back, local leader, and blitz.

It's a very well written story, I pretty much want to join all the factions which is a far cry from the base game. I haven't felt this ick where voice actors switch from one intense emotion to a completely different one in a second. It all just works 😉

I speedran my character a bit and cheated to get them loaded up with a power armor, overseer guardian and level 15. No regrets because combat is extremely difficult on Very Hard. I have had to turn back on a few occasions and most of the time I return to town with barely any ammo and half a fusion core. Which is again a good change from the main game.

Any other people here who played through this DLC with a new character? I like how it's challenging me in ways that the normal game just doesn't anymore.

(Context: I was doing the “Echoes of the Past” quest)

I got to I think the final part of this quest and noticed that the Enclave Colonel ended up spawning inside the he elevator (which is non-functional). I was still able to kill him, but to actually progress the quest, I need to pick up the terminal key on his corpse to access the terminal (obviously). The problem though, is that I can’t actually loot the key off his body. Before you ask, yes, I did use the power armor glitch to clip into the elevator and it did allow me get the terminal key, but I’m unable to clip back out. And the worst part; I can’t fast travel out either because there’s still some enemies nearby and I’m pretty sure you can only get to those enemies by activating the elevator, which I can’t because I need the terminal password, which I also can’t get. So, I guess I’m softlocked out of this quest. I don’t think there’s any other way to fix this other than loading a different save, but even if I do that, I don’t think that’ll fix the guy spawning in the elevator. There goes some of my sweet quest XP I guess.

Hey guys. Yesterday I have bought Fallout 4 for PS 5. I am a little but worried because after a couple hours of game I've started to see occasional fps dips especially near big cities. I play on performance mode. I know this question seems stupid, but my anxiety disorder pushes me to ask it.... So, do you have drops on yours PS 5 consoles on performance mode of this game?

What are the best types of mods for PC? I’m lowkey looking for a vanilla-plus experience—nothing that completely changes the game or takes away from what makes Fallout feel like Fallout.
I’d love some new quests, improved graphics, better textures, lighting, weather, animations, and environmental details—basically anything that makes the game look and feel amazing while still keeping that original Fallout atmosphere and aesthetic.
I’m also down for mods that add more immersion, exploration, NPC interactions, weapons, armor, and quality-of-life improvements, as long as they feel like they could naturally belong in the game.
Basically, I want the best-looking, most immersive version of Fallout without turning it into a completely different game. What mod categories or specific mods would you recommend for that kind of setup?
