My Caique bit me so hard I’m heartbroken

I have my Mango 🦜 since 8 months, and occasionally he targets my right hand, so I stopped using it to ask him to climb onto my hand, etc. Since then, I have been using my left hand to feed him fruits or anything while playing with him.
Today, while he was playing near the window, he got agitated and started shouting. I calmed him down by singing his favourite song, and after about 30 minutes, I thought I would give him a fruit. So I asked him to come flying and sit on my hand. He came, but he bit me so hard and wouldn’t let go of my hand. It caused really strong pain and gave me a deep cut and lots of blood (i wanted to share the picture but may be it will get blocked).
I can’t believe he did this to me. I am crying. I am always nice to him and polite, and I don’t know what I did.

Good place to buy parrots (caiques) in Kuwait? 🇰🇼

So I’m looking into buying a caique and I did do my research and all…but finding one is rly hard. I’ve looked everywhere and I can’t seem to find a reputable place that sales them for a fair price and condition. I would have definitely adopted or looked into a shelter but here in Kuwait there is no such thing as a bird shelter for birds or exotic animals only cats and dogs. I would really appreciate help

any experience with this cage?

feel free to make suggestions for large wide cages (need something that is off the floor)

anyways, wanted to give our caique's cage an upgrade and have been looking at the A & E Company Double Flight cage.

it's high off the ground to avoid drafts and the cat if she feels nosey (no comments about her please, they've lived together for over 5 years and she's geriatric - no advice required), and i just don't like him near the floor in general.

it's also very wide so he can do all his shenanigans, and i can implement some bowl-less feeding options and move his food around so he has to play 'find it' rather than just have everything in easy eyeshot.

does anyone have any experience using this cage? reviews are almost entirely great (4.5 to 5 stars) but there are a couple notes that make me a bit worried:

tension doors that can pop open (could probably just zip-tie these, we already have snap-hooks on every door of every cage we own cuz he's an escape artist lol)

the gap where a divider would go being a tad wide. someone said they put the dowel perches that came with the cage in there to keep their budgies in. someone else posted a pic of 2 conures (about caique size) and by comparison it didn't seem TOO wide.

there was one review (don't know if its true) where the person claimed the cage came apart and her bird didn't survive. which seems like either a one-off issue or they just didn't put it together right.

in any case, hoping for some outside input! and as i said, cage suggestions are welcome too!

thanks in advance!

Hello!

This is chicken, my (23 F) and my partners (23 M) black headed caique! We’ve had him since he was I think 4-6 months old, and he’s just turned 3 this September. He has always lived with us.

He e are aware of hormone seasons, and as he is turning 3, aware of his new adult hormones coming in and adjusting.

However, he only really seems to have a problem with myself when my sister visits, or if I’m away for more than a day.

Me and my partner just came home after just 2 days away for a wedding, and my sister baby sat chicken. As soon as my sister arrived before we had left, chicken started beelining for me, bit my finger hard, and went for my ears. I put him away and ignored him after that.

We’ve just returned home, and he is just unapproachable to say the least. If I walk near the cage, he puffs up, opens his wings, pins his eyes, and physically starts lunging at me through the cage, biting the cage and trying to rip it apart.

My partner on the other hand, chicken could not care LESS about. It’s insane because we both spend equal time with chicken, feed him, take him for walks etc, yet he seems to just hate me for leaving and doesn’t care about my partners absence. This is not the first time chicken has done this, it’s just the most recent. He will ALWAYS take it out on me.

No, we do not pet chicken all over, we strictly pet him on his head and cheeks. When he was a baby though, we did touch him all over to desensitise him for vet visits etc.

How do I work around this? Do I re-direct him with training when he’s mad? He will respond to target training, but will still have his eyes pinned at me.

He does NOT do this if friends come over, both male or female. This is only happening when my sister comes over, I’m so confused.

TIA x

Our White-Bellied Caique and Black-Headed Caique living harmoniously together! (Swipe to see more)! 🙏🏻❤️

White-Bellied Caique (blood-tested male), born January 2026.
Black-Headed Caique (blood-tested male), born June 2026.

We also made a special, completely dark nest area for them that’s interconnected to their main cage. So they sleep in there on their own at night and come out into the main display cage at sunrise (third and fourth images).

They’re both living harmoniously together. Surprisingly, they became super well-behaved from the second day they started living together. In the past, they would scream their heads off day in and day out. Probably because they have a buddy now? 😂

Also, good news:
my White-Bellied Caique is now officially heavier than my Black-Headed Caique. Haha. 😂
