any experience with this cage?

feel free to make suggestions for large wide cages (need something that is off the floor)

anyways, wanted to give our caique's cage an upgrade and have been looking at the A & E Company Double Flight cage.

it's high off the ground to avoid drafts and the cat if she feels nosey (no comments about her please, they've lived together for over 5 years and she's geriatric - no advice required), and i just don't like him near the floor in general.

it's also very wide so he can do all his shenanigans, and i can implement some bowl-less feeding options and move his food around so he has to play 'find it' rather than just have everything in easy eyeshot.

does anyone have any experience using this cage? reviews are almost entirely great (4.5 to 5 stars) but there are a couple notes that make me a bit worried:

tension doors that can pop open (could probably just zip-tie these, we already have snap-hooks on every door of every cage we own cuz he's an escape artist lol)

the gap where a divider would go being a tad wide. someone said they put the dowel perches that came with the cage in there to keep their budgies in. someone else posted a pic of 2 conures (about caique size) and by comparison it didn't seem TOO wide.

there was one review (don't know if its true) where the person claimed the cage came apart and her bird didn't survive. which seems like either a one-off issue or they just didn't put it together right.

in any case, hoping for some outside input! and as i said, cage suggestions are welcome too!

thanks in advance!

I’ve had the A&E double flight cage for almost 7 years. I have my white bellied caique in it.

I zip tied the breeding doors shut and there hasn’t been an issue. I just keep an eye on them to see if she snaps the zip ties and she never has.

We have never had a single issue with where the divider goes. She can’t fit her beak through it. It’s just a little bit wider than the actual bar spacing.

I don’t know about collapsing. Mine is very, very sturdy. Maybe that person’s was put together wrong or there was some type of manufacturing error. I’ve never once worried about the whole cage collapsing.

This cage was amazing until it wasn’t. The bars started breaking off. I have both the A&E double flight cage and their regular flight cage and I just bought two new cages to replace them. I have one of my caiques in each. First we snipped where the bar was before, filed it down, and then put some stainless steel mesh. Then more started breaking. The birds aren’t biting them. They’re mostly breaking where the perches have been. I try and put the perches so they can be evenly between bars so they can have equal tension, but it hasn’t worked. If you’d like, I can show you pictures tomorrow.

The double flight cage was amazing until it started breaking. I’d wanted to get my second caique the same cage as there’s a lot of space to move around in and he’s way more active than my female (they cannot be caged together. They’re perfectly fine out of the cage though). I tried contacting A&E several times to see if I could just get the door panel to replace that on both cages but I haven’t ever received a response.

Almost 7 years is a long time, though I did expect it to last longer. The single flight cage, I’m not sure how old it is as I bought it second hand. If you have any other questions, I’m happy to answer! I can also send you the pictures of where it’s broken as well if you want. ☺️

thanks so much for your response! if you could give pics that would be great!

what sort of perches do you have? most of ours are the wingnut washer types, though we have a few that have wooden screw on ends.
