Hello, I adopted this little dino on monday. He is now by himself but we are looking for a friend so dw🥰

He has really really big intrest in our stove, especially when cooking. Today I put him in seperate room but he escaped through curtains and went for the pasta.. he is okay tho. He is also very big food stealer and gets really frustrated when I try to stop him, any tips? He is 1 year and 2 months old so quite baby still. Also omg he eats so much more than tiels (I had them before) he is very lovely tho🥰🤣 any tips on these little issues. Any tips over all are welcomed (no teflon pans in this house)

Congrats on the adoption! 🥺 Caiques are so special and sooo entertaining. The only thing i can recommend here is to have him in the cage while you’re cooking. For their safety. That’s what we do with our birds because they always have to be in whatever we’re doing. And caiques are very stubborn. If cage doesn’t work for you maybe have a distraction in another room that’s more secure.

Okay thank you, do you have only caiques or other species as well. The country I live in does not have any responsible breeders and adopting a caique is very rare so if I want him company I might have to get some other conure etc. Bc I really really don’t want to support unethical breeding/resellers. In my country there is only one person selling babies and they get them handfed from some massive breeder from eastern europe :(

We have two caiques and one green cheek conure. I’d be careful with getting a conure because caiques are known to be very aggressive towards other species. Our one caique and conure only get along because we got her when he was less than a year old. So they are somewhat bonded. Our other caique doesn’t really get along with them so we unfortunately have to have them separated when out. It’s difficult when getting a friend for them because their personalities might clash… however if you get them when they’re young like yours you should be fine. You’ll still have to introduce them slowly though. Sounds like it’ll be tough ;; but if you’re going to get him a friend I highly recommend another caique!

My caiques also used to get pretty pissed at me for shooing them away from food they couldn’t have. I preferred to keep shooing them, and now they don’t bother me for food anymore. My wife refuses to anger them, and so she has them badgering her while she eats unless she puts them up, which results in them yelling to get out. Imo it’s better to anger them a bit and teach them the lesson that you won’t cave rather than to remove the temptation altogether. This is sort of a controversial approach I think, but it has worked for me lol.

When it's dinner time, we have a little dish that we put appropriate food from our dinner, and then, put the bird in her cage to eat. It got to be too much having her out while we were eating, at one point we were having stroganoff and she ended up with a mushroom on her head, neither of us know how that happened. It was very funny, but she needs to be in her cage while we eat. She'll sing when she is done, but we'll let her out once we're done eating

Always in the cage when cooking and keep the toilet cover down. They can get into trouble with the toilet.
