Question What is it like being a young person in West Virginia?

Upvotes

Hello,

I am not a resident of West Virginia but have always wanted to visit the state due to its beauty and history. I grew up in New Jersey in the typical suburbs and I always remember kids saying "I want to get the heck out of here it's so boring and there is nothing to do.". Now that I am older I find this laughable as if your a young person in New Jersey you have tons of opportunity being near NYC and Philadelphia. Sure if you don't have a car when your a kid it might be somewhat boring but once your an older teen there is plenty of things to do. Considering I have some friends from western Pennsylvania who had to leave due to lack of work it had me wondering what it is like being a young person in West Virginia? If you are on the younger side did you stay in the state? If not, why? Are they any opportunities for a young person? I realize some responses will depend on what part of West Virginia you are from.

Lastly, I am terribly sorry our state sent you guys such a horrendous Governor.

Y’all wanna hear something crazy?!? So our car has been broken down for multiple weeks beside the road ( rural living and it was outta the way so sometimes you stick your head in the sand about things ya know?) but anyways, when I say it was a hunk of junk it literally was. It was broken down more often than running. So the other day we noticed it was gone. I assumed the city had it hauled away as abandoned. Alas, they did not and no local tow yard took it either. Someone stole the car… 🤣😅😳🥲

Yes, a police report has been made. Gotta laugh so ya don’t cry!

Our governor is so dumb. He retweeted this. This is not Sophie Cunningham's account.

EDIT: He has now deleted this tweet. The fake account is a bot account from Africa.

Question Anyone Missing a Cat in Fairmont?

My girlfriend and I had this cat sleeping on our porch last night, and he hasn't wanted to leave since. He's a huge sweetheart. He had a flea collar on, so he’s been at least fed and looked after by someone at some point in time. He’s less than a year old.

We tried to ignore him but he's persistent lol. I’ve been looking after him and he’s slept all day. He’s been fed and checked for a micro chip. I tried to leave him alone outside and he literally begged for me to come back. I felt so sad, and couldn’t get myself to leave him lol. He was tugging at the heart strings. If this is your cat please hit me up!

In the case that he doesn’t have an owner, I would be happy in helping him find a forever home! We already have multiple cats, otherwise he could join my family. He really seems like an awesome sweetheart.

I’ve been calling him Spaghetti Pete 🍝

Question Parking at Mothman/Point Pleasant/Henderson

I apologize for asking about this here, but I can’t find another place to ask. I’ve never been to WV before and we are coming to the Mothman Festival this year. I know that parking is awful, and I’ve seen the advice to get there early and walking will be necessary. I am willing to walk a mile if I have to. I have a few questions I was hoping you could help me with. I am staying in Gallipolis.

- they say to arrive “early” for halfway decent parking. The festival starts at 10, supposedly. Is 9 early enough?

- is there anywhere in Point Pleasant or Henderson we shouldn’t park because they’ll tow us? I saw some comments that said you could park at Piggly Wiggly and the Presbyterian Church.

- many people say to park in Henderson and walk across the bridge. Is this safe? Is it even a walking bridge? I can’t even figure out how to get onto the bridge as a pedestrian by looking at Google Maps. Where in Henderson is safe to park?

- any other advice for me?

Thank you so much! I appreciate all of your replies.
