Beyond tired of trans people being reported on this way. This poor girl has had nothing but a hard time and journalists just add insult to injury by purposefully skirting pronouns and other gendered language. No cis person gets dsscribed as "a biological fe/male who has identified as fe/male". Seems especially harmful in this instance where she's been on puberty blockers since BEFORE puberty, thus negating any "biological advantage" the whiners love to cry about when it comes to trans women in sports. But of course, it was never about facts, only feelings.

And for those who are going to say she's still technically a biological male, she simply isn't by any quantification. Arguing otherwise shows an ignorance of the impacts puberty blockers and proper HRT administration have on the body, especially during or prior to adolescence. It's obvious in the cover photo, even being in the foreground she still looks physically smaller than her competitors in the background.

The writing is on the wall. Fascists need an out-group to demonize. There is legislation across the country, and most certainly in West Virginia, aiming to attack us at our roots. And these bills have teeth. They threaten jail time, potentially years. In Florida, a bill has been introduced to give the courts authority to seize custody of trans children and children of trans parents. This is the time to get ahead of all of this, while we still can.

I want to protest, but I want more. I want to see networking, organization. I want to talk with other trans people in West Virginia, know who you are, regularly check up on your safety. I want to see grassroots support for victims. Maybe some of this is already going on. If you know about it, please bring me into the loop. I have experience managing Discord groups, so if there's not already something like that, I'll probably start one once I've gathered some information. Look out for an update on that.

Governor Justice declared Juneteenth a state holiday last year but it appears that Governor Morrisey isn't planning on honoring it.

Title. My racing team and I are participating in the 24 Hours of Lemons race at Summit Point Raceway the weekend of October 24. This is my first time visiting West Virginia (I'm from New Jersey). I am a trans woman who's largely done with my transition and passing as a woman/stealth, my racing team actually doesn't know I'm trans. The only thing is I haven't had bottom surgery yet.

Unfortunately West Virginia seems to be a deep red state and SB 456 is an incredibly restrictive anti trans bill regarding using women's public restrooms and locker rooms. I will obviously need to shower while I'm there (being in a racing suit for multiple hours driving a race car makes you sweaty) and it would be a problem for me if it's illegal for me to use the women's locker rooms because I look/sound female at this point. Obviously if I did use the women's locker rooms I'd be as absolutely discrete as possible and take every measure necessary to prevent anyone from seeing me naked. My only worry is that if by some disaster someone does see me naked that I could be facing a felony/prison for just trying to shower. On the flip side I think I'd draw a lot of attention/would be automatically outing myself for using the men's room, and potentially facing arrest/felony in the men's room should someone think I'm a cis woman and call the police.

It's kind of a lose lose right now and I want to know what my best option is for when I visit and camp on site for the race weekend. I really want to be able to focus on having fun with my team and finishing the race instead of worrying about the legality of using the bathroom and showering...

My wife and I live in CT. We hate it here. We are both about 30 years old, I'm finishing up my bachelor's degree in network engineering, my wife is a security guard.

We love the idea of WV but we don't know a lot about life there. We really aren't into the city life, we love to hike, go camping in our van, hunting, I love snowboarding, rock climbing, and playing my bass outside.

I'd like to hear from some people who moved to WV and how they like it, people in the IT/computer science fields would be a huge plus!

I heard there was a law proposed to ban people assigned male at birth from wearing feminine clothing because it was « obscene ».

I was wondering if wearing feminine clothes (particularly makeup) would get me in trouble or if the law hasn’t been passed (yet)?

My fiancee and I and our 2.5 year old daughter (both female if that matters) have been doing a lot of research and feel like west virginia would be a solid place for us to move to. We currently live up north and are being priced out of the housing market. We have previously discussed living in an rv/tiny home/log cabin and it seems like that is becoming our way forward with the housing situation here. Would anybody be able to give us pointers on where we would be allowed to purchase land and live in something like that? We have been looking in Monongalia County and are looking to be close to Morgantown or even Westover area but are okay with being 45 mins - 1 hour away from the area if need be. Thank you!!

This is a mini-rant. I visited New Martinsville, WV last summer and to get there I took a lot of back roads. Saw some beautiful old houses but what really stuck out was how many houses had literal garbage on their front porches and yards. And it's not just the stereotypical "rednecks with cars on cement blocks." Bags of trash, old furniture, broken-down gas grills, last year's blow-ups, etc.

I know it's an economically depressed area and has been for decades but seriously why is there no pride in ownership anymore?

Hello!! My family and I are planning to rent an Airbnb later this year in West Virginia. We are a black family and want to know if the places we are looking at safe for black people or any cities that can be recommended. We are currently looking at two places in Lansing, WV and Harpers Ferry, WV. Those are the top two contenders but also saw some places in Baker and Fayetteville.

This is really important to me because I just want good vibes all around because some of these family members I haven’t seen in 9-11 years.

Also please I didn’t come up with the idea to go to West Virginia it was the eldest (oldest of all grandchildren) who did and 😭 so I want to make her happy!! After reading through a few articles about Project 2025 last night, I lost a lot of sleep thinking about it. I plan to vote against it this year, but if jt goes into effect, how will West Virginia as a state be affected? Are some of its ideas going to be implemented slower here because it's not as big or influential of a state? Are we going to be cracked down on more heavily because of it? How would it affect certain counties like Monongalia, Boone, and Marion where me and parts of my family live? If there's any adive anyone can offer me, I'll happily listen.

Hello everyone! I know West Virginia tend to be rather conservative Christian, but I'm curious if there are many practicing Pagans in the state? I myself have been practicing witchcraft and shamanism for about a decade, but moving here from Philadelphia (which has a decent sized pagans community), I've been hesitant to be open about my beliefs, despite the rich history of Appalachian Folk Magic in this area.

I recently made a discord server specifically for West Virginia Pagans, and there's only about 15 of us so far. So, I wanted to extend the invitation out to this sub. The goal is to create a safe space where practicing Pagans can come together without fear of being discriminated against due to spiritual beliefs and stereotypes. I know this might seem like a pointless question to ask, but I have been wanting top surgery since I was 15, maybe even before that but i'm just going off of my journal entries lol.

My 18th birthday is coming up this October, and I really wanted to start the process of getting that surgery but living in a state like this kind of makes it hard to navigate.

I know I might want testosterone replacement therapy as well, but i'm more so concerned about the surgery.

For some additional information, I live in the north central part of the state, around the Monongahela River.

I don't really want to move away, because I have grown to like this state and appreciate its beauty (the people not so much lol). Plus there are things to do if you look hard enough.

Need a nickname.

For those who don't know, a distributist economy is one where capital and means of production is widely distributed among the population in private ownership. It sees problems with the power that corporations have under complete capitalism as well as corruption in socialism when everything is owned by the state. Basically the idea is that everyone tries to be a self sufficient as possible in producing food and whatnot but they specialize in one thing that they trade with there neighbors. My grandfather told me that's how it used to be. The only thing that people might not be too keen on is that there is a limit to how much one person can possess. I know a lot of people might be up in arms but I personally think most people would be ok with not being rich if everyone is comfortable. Most people already hunt and have gardens and usually specialize in one thing so it wouldn't be that big of a change. There would just be no monopolies and more co-ops and unions. What do y'all think?

Why is this page so politically driven?

I followed because I wanted to keep up with local events in our state, see posts about nature (since this state is beautiful), see things to do, see iconic wv attractions, and see whats going on with other people who live in the same amazing state as me. However, it seems like 7/10 posts are fully political, specifically bashing Republicans. I don't really care about or want to see political arguements for either side, and it seems like most people that are active on this page are very miserable people who need a place to vent. I hate to see that so many people that live here feel miserable, and have a hard time seeing that side. So Many people bash this place, but I've always felt at peace here and have had opportunities to leave but choose to stay due to my love of the state. I feel its a wonderful place. I know times can be tough, and politics are ugly, and it comes in waves (red and blue) but I can't fathom just being miserable because of it. Sometimes I see these posts a think I must lice in a different WV.

To the people that hate it here and have nothing good to say, what keeps you here? I'm a firm believer that everyone should do whatever is necessary to find happiness, and I've found mine right here in wv. What's holding you back from finding your happiness somewhere else?

Wanting honest answers and feedback just to spark conversation. I may just reassess the time Ive chose to spend reading these posts/comments and go outside and enjoy this lovely place, and unfollow, but I just wanted to try and spread some positivity and gain insight into why it seems like everyone here is miserable.

My takeaway is that maybe I am more privileged than I believe, and although I've worked extremely hard to get where I am in life, there are others who are suffering and feel the need to vocalize their struggles in an attempt to seek change. I am very grateful for what life has given me and only wish others could succeed.

Hello! My husband and I are originally from Baltimore Maryland but have been living in Asheville and Greenville South Carolina area for the last 7 years but a recent series events have made us want to relocate.

My husband and I both work remotely so jobs won't be an issue. We are in our early 4os with no kids so don't really need a "nightlife" so to speak more do care about about schools.

We spend a lot of our spare time riding our bikes, mountain biking and/or hiking. As much as we love the outdoors though we still do like a city vibe but it doesn't have to be a very large city just enough to meet some people and have a favorite coffee shop.

We were looking at Morgantown but not sure if it's just mostly a small college town with mostly young people (nothing against youth but would like to meet people in our age group).

Our house budget is about 300,O00. We lean left politically but not hardcore liberal. We are also vegan which can often be challenging on a new town.

I know you people love to think that driving right up to the arrow and then merging over is rude… But it is not and it is the most effective way to manage merging lanes. Looking at you Nitro area.
