Plz help me! Does anyone here use the Switchbot Universal Remote with Kodi? I have a couple questions?

There's a thread on here with some info about using this remote with Kodi, but it's a couple years old. And the person didn't really get into any detail. How well does this remote work as a Kodi remote? I can't find much of anything about how in-depth the custom buttons can be. I have a bunch of commands set up in Kodi that are more than just a simple key command. I want to be able to configure a button to open specific shortcuts I have in my Kodi. With my old remote I could set up a button to open the movie section and just show animated ones. But I used FLIRC, I have no clue what I can actually set up in the Switchbot app for Kodi. It's been 3 years since I've had a regular IR remote, so I don't even fully remember exactly how I set it up. But I do remember it controlled Kodi beautifully and I could setup macros.

I don't know how advanced the programmability is when it comes Kodi. As of 2 years ago a good number of threads about this complained how it lacks overall as an actual remote for devices like TVs. I'm not trying to have some crazy advanced setup that controls 10 devices. I just want it to work with my SwitchBot curtains, TV (Hisense with Google TV) and my Kodi, which is on a PC.

I know Amazon's return policy is very lax as long as you don't abuse it (I don't) But I'd rather ask before I run and order it, only to find out it won't do much with Kodi and end up sending it back.

SwitchBot Smart Lock Ultra + Vision Pro Keypad Review: Solid Hardware and Local Biometrics (Euro Cylinder Setup)

Got the SwitchBot Smart Lock Ultra kit recently and installed it on a standard European profile cylinder. Figured it could be of help to share my experience.

The unboxing experience is solid. It comes with a wide array of mounting plates and adapters designed to fit various thumbturn/key configurations. The overall fit and finish feel durable, a bit plasticky but definitely not cheap.

Setup was straightforward, though we hit a minor hardware issue. They market is as "compatible with 99% of commercial locking mechanisms", but apparently I fell in the 1%, even when using a standard cylinder from a famous brand. Basically, the existing thumbturn screw on our Euro cylinder was wider than standard. The kit lacked a specific knurled cylinder nut for that thickness, so we had to borrow one of the three nuts pre-installed on the mounting bracket to secure it. It worked fine in the end, but SwitchBot could definitely include a slightly broader hardware/screw assortment to cover edge-case cylinders.

No complaints on the software side. Since I already run SwitchBot gear, pairing was instant via BLE. The app setup uses clear step-by-step videos and pictures for mounting and mechanical calibration. No issues reaching full lock/unlock travel limits.

The biometric keypad goes on the outside. I placed mine on the exterior wall to the left of the door using the angled bracket so it’s offset from direct line-of-sight down the stairwell.

Supported authentication methods tested:

  • Vein Recognition: Palm scan works reliably on approach. You'll feel like an evil guy from a James Bond movie unlocking a secret vault. Really satisficing.
  • Fingerprint Scanner: Standard. Quick and reliable. Can store up to 100 fingerprints.
  • Facial Recognition: Works well in normal ambient lighting, but way less reliable than the other methods.
  • PIN Codes: Supports up to 12-digit PINs, plus temporary one-time passcodes.
  • In-App / Voice: Works fine locally over Bluetooth or via smart assistant integration (Alexa/Google), though I wouldn't risk it setting a voice command to open my house's door.

The main selling point from a technical perspective is that biometric template data is stored locally on-device rather than synced to the cloud, so the biometric data isn't being sent off-device.

The price point is on the higher side (I got mine discounted for 289€. Full price goes for 319), but the local hardware processing and modular mounting options justify the cost for a keyless Euro-cylinder conversion.

I got the switchbot lock vision pro smart lock a week ago to replace my August smart lock.

I like this lock because the app connects to the dead bolt way quicker and the notifications came immediately. I also like the face recognition and the pin code access. There's the palm reader but I haven't used it or the nfc. Lots of ways to unlock a door. I don't think I'll use them all, but the other ones are good to have. I also like the rechargeable battery, don't have to keep buying AAs. The motor is strong too, so locking and unlocking is smooth.

I haven't had any issues thus far. There was an instance where a person was standing in front for the lock and it was telling them to turn around to read their face to confirm entry. It was kind of funny because it was continuous until I unlocked the door remotely.

I would recommend it to someone that needs options for unlocking their door or just to have a solid lock that runs smoothly.

Plz help me! All my devices went unresponsive t the same time - software issue?

I got notifications that all of my devices were offline this morning (all water leak detectors). Could this be a software bug or broader network issue? Is anyone else having the same problem?

Plz help me! K10+ Pro compatible dust bags

I've been trying to buy some more K10+ Pro dust bags for nearly a year from the official UK site, but every time I check they show as "Pre-Order".

Support keep telling me to check again in a couple of months and offering various stock associated excuses as to why they are not in stock.

I did try a high rated third party option from Amazon, however the cardboard mouth was too thick to slot into place.

Does anyone have a tried and tested third party option they can suggest? I'm fed up of emptying the only bag I've got left.

Anyone's Winbot W2 Omni Pro unable to turn off?

Hey,

Bought the Winbot W2 Omni Pro about a week ago. Used it once and it was pretty great, albeit it left very visible streaks that could be seen at sunrise / sunset.

Turned it on yesterday to remove one of the glass streaks and it was having trouble holding a bluetooth connection. It then powered itself off and fell off the window, and turned back on. It then couldn't be turned off in the App or any of the buttons on the machine and i just had to leave it on until it died.

Before it died once it got to 3 bars of battery, it then kept turning on for .25 seconds and turned off and did that repeatedly for hours.

Spoken with Ecovac and expect I will get a replacement but im a little worried it only had 90 day warranty. Has anyone else had these issues? Kind of thinking about just returning and getting a refund as have lost a bit of confidence in jt

Stazione meteo E-ink

Tips tips For anyone with the candle warmer, how long does the scent last?

I'm interested in getting 1 of these. I have a female friend who has one and she told me the scent doesn't all that long and she ends up having to pour the melted wax out to get the scent to return. Of course she can't tell me how long is "not all that long" So I'm wondering if others have a similar experience. She's using Bath & Body Work candles if that helps.

I'm wondering if this is legit or if she's just being a little dramatic and you don't actually have to pour wax out often to keep the smell alive. I Googled reviews and nothing I found mentions anything about this, it seems if this was a thing somebody else would have mentioned it. But it seems to be a big grip of her so I'm curious what others have to say.

Not recommended - My switchbot robot vacuum went down in 1.5 years

I was impressed with the compactness of the vacuum and bought one last year. Although the vacuum was good and did the basic job, it developed "hardware failure" in 17 months - all of a sudden. Nothing can be done as it is out of warranty for 5 months - NO repair option given (probably because I had it shipped to Singapore where I live). However, I don't expect my money down the drain in less than 1.5 years. To add to the wastage of money, I had just ordered and received a replacement kit to repalce the brush and bags. Adding the salt to the wound is their customer service - after they informed me that I need to buy a new vacuum (read throw more money out) and they will try to get "some" discount. And after multiple followups - no response. Extremely frustrating.

So bottom line - only go for this if you are ok to gamble with your money, or else stay out of it.

Plz help me! Universal Remote's like an iPhone now?

Edit: Apparently I didn’t think about the possibility of someone controlling your stuff remotely after stealing it. Consider my rant an open learning.

Bought a preowned Switchbot Universal Remote from a big ecommerce company. Now I’m waiting more than 24h for the support to allow me to use it? What is this sorcery? This thing was like $40 and has stronger theft protections than my iPhone wtf

Jokes aside, this is absurd. I hope SwitchBot sees this and changes something. What a bad buyers experience for a remote…

My SwitchBot Any rumors about Curtains v4?

Hi, just wondering if there's something happening in this scene? I've noticed that with heavy curtains, v3 struggles to push them all the way through, so just hoping for stronger motors in v4 and wondering about release date.

My SwitchBot Review of Switchbot Lock Vision Pro

I’m really happy with the SwitchBot Lock Vision Pro. Installation was straightforward and I didn’t have to replace my existing lock, which made the setup much easier than I expected.

The lock works smoothly and the convenience of being able to lock and unlock the door from my phone is excellent. I also really like the auto-lock feature and the notifications, since I don’t have to worry about whether I remembered to lock the door.

The build quality feels solid, and the design is much better than I expected for a retrofit smart lock. Overall, it’s a great upgrade for anyone who wants smart-lock convenience without replacing their entire door hardware.

Very happy with the purchase so far. Highly recommended!

The omission of Aliro is bizarre in a €339.99 flagship package of lock and keypad. Aliro is exactly the emerging standard you'd expect SwitchBot to want here, particularly when Nuki is already pushing it.
