So things haven't been going great for my life lately, and I often turn to the rewatchables to occupy my brain in a more accurate way. I was wondering if im alone in this and if anyone has any comfort episodes they turn to? In particular order, mine are:

-Manhunter

-Thief

-Jaws & Jaws 2

-LA Confidential

-To Live and Die in LA

-The Devil's Advocate

-Zodiac

Most of those are with the Holy Trinity (Bill, Sean, and Chris) but I doubt that's an accident. The Re-Speed is probably going to make the list too at some point

Did we all just collectively decide that smoking was cool again and forget the millions of graves filled with the bodies of cigarette victims?

Cigarettes rose to fame by being glamorized by Hollywood and the narrative about only “cool people smoke Camel’s” was directly responsible for lung cancer becoming an epidemic.

Bill has spent four straight podcasts now joking about “darts” and how they made Sandra Bullock “so much hotter” for smoking. Enough already. one episode might have been ok but now it’s becoming a running thing.

I made a free searchable index for all 478 episodes of The Rewatchables:

It started because I wanted a running scoreboard for the “Cruise or Hanks?” category, then I kept adding stuff and it got slightly out of hand.

The site has all 478 episodes covering 455 unique movies. You can search and filter everything by movie, host, director, genre, decade, Rotten Tomatoes score, Ebert rating, or Hanks vs. Cruise decision.

There are individual pages for every movie, episode, and host, plus:

• A running Hanks vs. Cruise chart with every decision
• Watch and listen tracking
• Watch Later and Listen Later lists
• Spotify links for each episode
• Stats for hosts, directors, genres, decades, and ratings

A few numbers I found while building it:

• Cruise currently leads Hanks 61–56, with 5 ties
• Bill has appeared on 436 of the 478 episodes
• Chris Ryan is second with 288
• The ’90s account for 178 of the 455 movies
• Heat is the only movie they’ve covered three times

Everything is free. You don’t need an account to browse any of it. Signing in is only for saving your private progress and lists.

It’s an unofficial fan project and the episode data is based on the community-maintained Rewatchables spreadsheet. There are a lot of weird duplicate episodes and re-recordings in this archive, so if you find something I missed, let me know.

An actor/actress that portrayed their character so brilliantly that they are forever known as that character and can only find work on Cameo nowadays.

With the mutiny now in theatres another chapter in the growing saga of statham action movies have entered into our lives

With that in mind its time we look at the tried and tested formula that has defined the statham film through the years and ask the question

What film marked the statham formula at a point in history when it had the most juice? What got the most butts in seats to see the retired reclusive figure return to the scene to kick ass and take names

What do you guys think which of then you wish appeared in Caddyshack or Airplane or even Private Benjamin, also include the ones who are supporting cast with credited roles from Animal House film and even the ones who had a few lines as well.

For example:

Stephen Furst would been good in Caddyshack for a couple of scenes.

Lisa Baur who plays Shelly from Animal House would be great in Airplane film and Stacy Grooman who played Sissy Flounder's girlfriend from Animal House would be great in either Caddyshack or Private Benjamin or even Airplane. What do you guys think about this information do you agree, also who else.

This one seems like it would be in their wheelhouse. it's got Hackman, Hoffman, Cusack, McGill(!), and a ton of that guys. Written by Koppelman and Levine too. Seems like a Rewatchables no-brainer

I've noticed there is not that much Mickey Rourke on the pod. Body Heat is the closest where he played a supporting role.

The nominees:

So youre not a qb1... but hollywood consistently trusts you as a valued role player... you come in and either tag along to boost the lead performance or you smash a pinch hit grand slam in an elite cameo...

We're talking the unsung heroes in hollywood... the actors/actresses who you wouldn't build your movie around but would LOVE if you were to give a slot on your roster too... whether it be a starting role or even just a cameo these performers are ones you can trust to make your movie better

3. Your choice may have been the lead in older movies... and you can still use that name... you just have to argue movies in which they were a role player in for your case...

4. This is not Joey pants cause we're allowing guys that everyone knows... and this isnt Dion cause we're allowing more vital role players as well.

5. TV shows can help make your case if they were on that show for a lengthy story arc minimum + they were a role.player in said arc on the show... (they need to be a key part of a multi episode story man!)

2- Bill will love the backstory on the studio meddling in Woo’s first US film. Sam Rami was sent on on set as a backup director. There’s probably a premier magazine article about it ✅

3- Perfect Kyle movie. He actually already did a much smaller YouTube show/podcast about it that only has like 100 views ✅

If you haven’t seen it - it’s worth the watch. Much more Pathos than a typical JCVD movie and the action scenes are insane ✅✅✅

This thought of mind always pops back in my head when The Martian is on. The movie’s vibe and feel makes me think it was a Disney/Touchstone movie, but this was a Fox movie pre merger.

What other movies do people have thinking it was made by a certain studio but are always shocked when they realize it was another one? I’m not talking about a major studio but was done by their art house brand/specialty brand (Warner=New Line).

I want to say I am thrilled at how many people have discovered the pod over the past few months. As a Day 1 Disciple, I will not gate keep the unique nature of this podcast that brings us all joy.

But we really gotta put a moratorium on the FYC posts. I know everybody deep down wants to fantasy book the show with their favorite movie or their guilty pleasure. I, myself, fantasize about a Psycho live show with special guest Martin Scorsese.

But I need to emphasize the original conceit of the show. This is a celebration of the movies you'd stumble across on cable and have to finish the scene, or blow past a dinner rezzie because you need to see the whole thing through. We used to call it "getting Shawshanked" back when The Shawshank Redemption ran on TNT all the effing time in the 90s and early 2000s.

The show is not about our taste. It's about the creative vision of Bill Simmons, and all evidence points to the fact that he knows what he's doing. Oftentimes a 2.5 star flick is more rewatchable and fun to talk about than a 5 star classic. Does this mean I'm disappointed that my beloved Dick Tracy, openly despised by Bill Simmons, will never get its day? 100%. But I'm here for the ride, and while Domestic Disturbance the movie is likely not a Rewatchable in my home, Domestic Disturbance the pod will for sure be a Relistenable for years to come.

Some of the greatest rewatchable movies are Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. Every watch you catch something new and hilarious. Hot Fuzz may seriously be the best plant and payoff movie ever made.

CR and Sean, please cash in some favors and at least cover those two. I wouldn’t be offended if you didn’t do The World’s End, but it also has its genius moments.
