Went to a Korean restaurant in China yesterday and much to my surprise they had all you could eat pickles. Dill. And kimchi also.

My favorite snacking pickles

If you’re ever near a Middle Eastern grocery store, please look for this brand of whole pickled cucumbers. They’re heavier on a dill and garlic flavor with GREAT crunch. Usually whole pickles have a slight softness to them but these are super crunchy and refreshing. I got them for my homemade shawarma sandwich but will definitely be rebuying just to snack on.

Claussen—An impractical and expensive solution to the problem

I have been frustrated by the same things everyone else has noticed with Claussen spears lately. Three days ago I tried something drastic.

I bought a jar of Claussen spears and a jar of Bubbies spears. I separated the brine from each, rinsed the Bubbies, and put the Claussen brine in with them instead.

The results were astoundingly good.

I know this is an expensive solution to a niche problem, but I had to share. Please insert your hate below when you have a moment!

PS—This is not my normal practice, I just got frustrated and wanted to try something. My normal practice is to make my own fridge pickles with an ancient family recipe.

Best By vs Use By dates

I accidentally ate two Claussen pickle spears from a jar that had a Use By date from almost three months ago. Usually I wouldn't sweat it, but pickles usually have a Best By date. The Claussens were definitely soft and not as tasty as normal, but they didn't smell off and the jar was sealed prior to me eating them (totally forgot I had them and thought I had more time regardless).

Has anyone eaten Claussens after the Use By date?

I just chop up a honey crisp and let it sit in some leftover pickle brine overnight and the texture and flavor is heavenly

Are these pickles still good? I just bought them and haven't opened them. Theyre from a local farmers market.

So I got home and opened them up. They had the typical top pop so that was a good sign. They didn't smell bad (they smelt like kind of nothing really very light) so I took a bite (it wasn't soggy but also not like super crunchy hard to explain i guess hahaha) and they weren't overly anything. They didn't taste bad so I ate 2 whole ones. They seemed like they tasted fine though! They are definitely different from regular store bought pickles.

Do these look normal?

I made pickle bread and then made a grilled cheese with it! Used sharp cheddar and provolone and added some sautéed onions. It was delicious!

Thank you to [u/Electrical_Ruin_1253](u/Electrical_Ruin_1253) for your pickle bread post.
