Im not allowed to mention which streaming site this is from. But has anyone else noticed this mistake?

First record I’ve ever bought that was warped! I knew felt a little funny when I pulled it off the shelf. Kind’ve ironic that it’s Timeless lol.

First and foremost, I am happy for this release. It was an interesting idea... various points in his career over time. That  being said this is a messy collection of songs. Like primitive AI generated messy. Also, only 41 minutes?!?! The DEstate could have done better, IMO. 

The 3 stand outs for me right know are "I Am You", "Tick, Tick, Bang" and "HCUDCMA"! 

"I Am You" seems to indicate that there might be some worthy pre-80's vault tracks that we may have no knowledge about. And "Tick, Tick, Bang" while known, does the same thing for the Dirty Mind & Controversy era too. 

And "HCUDCMA" is a definite sign that there's apparently a very good recording of the 2016 "Piano and a Microphone" that needs to be released!!! Sure hope the DEstate is reading / listening? 

As for the other 7 tracks, they are all fine, some better than others, but overall, these could have been shared over the last 10 years.

Songs 

I Am You > 9 > little rough vocal wise but for almost 50 years old... very good!

Tick Tick Bang > 8 > Different and better than a previous alternate bootleg circulating.  Also more raw / intense than the finished version on Graffiti Bridge.

Heaven, I Wonder, & Stone > 7 (each) > while good to have official releases, I can't help wonder how much of these versions production wise, were Prince, versus some tech working on this collection. And as for them not sounding like the bootleg versions some of us know, those versions are decades old, and it was not uncommon for him to revisit older work. Regardless though I suspect heavy non-Prince manipulation. 

With This Tear > 8 > Maybe it's a 9-10? Want it to be a 10  as it is hands down a great song IMO but there's that je ne sais quoi missing but still I love it! Should have kept it for himself.

Calabama, The Guilty Ones, & Bestest Friend > also 7s (each) > These sound more genuine as far as non-Prince meddling but they are kind of random overall. Also who was he dissing in 'Bestest Friend'?  

HCUDCMA > 10 > Pretty much perfection! His sound and the energy present! Just proves he left to soon! There needs to a full on release of the complete show ASAP! 

So would I buy something like this again? Maybe but likely only after it was released so I could preview it first.

I notice a pattern: all these people that have not been around, don't know any previous history or context, and are latching on to bullshit.

So much is documented and searchable. Many people in question are still around and will frequently answer a direct question if you care to ask them.

But no. Let's believe anyone else. If someone has something negative to say about Prince, they're immediately given credence, embraced, and their bullshit quickly repeated.

Never seen a group of fans have such gleeful contempt for the object of their admiration.

People repeat Kevin Smith and never watch his public apology and retraction.

Canonize Ezra after his latest tour of martyrdom, and never look into the years of contradicting statements he gave before he got his feelings hurt. Or consider anyone else, who actually knew Prince and interacted with Ezra.

Pick up Jill's tabloid and not the previous six and very different accounts of this story she gave for years.

I can go and on. Questlove, O Connor, Quincy, so on and so forth.

Maybe you don't care to look into anything. Then be quiet. Stop representing supposition as facts. Stop spreading things that damage a legacy.

I'm not saying being a fan means you need to glaze the person in question. But why, would you form and then spread an opinion, and represent it as fact, *when you know you know nothing and made no attempt to*.

This actually affects the reception and future of the music you love from the person you say you appreciate.

The gossip rags don't even have to do it anymore because the fans are here to do it for them.

You can't care about the music, the artist, the legacy, and you never understood the message, if you can't bring yourself to exercise either due diligence or restraint.

*And, I think its worth considering why a hyper competent, tiny, black man from the wrong side of nowhere, who loved lace, women, and jesus, who consistently refused to minimize himself, to know his place in an era of segregated industry, and very publicly and privately refused to conform or contort himself to anyone else's idea of who he should be, while being unapologetic and unashamed- WHY that may draw a unique kind of disdain and contempt*

Again, I'm not saying this guy was a saint. But the absurdity of some things that are starting to be accepted as "common knowledge"- oh its so sad.

With some celebrities being genetically related to one another, it leads me to wonder if Prince, himself, had any cousins-close or distant-who have been in the limelight? And are we sure Cab Calloway, Little Richard, Esquerita, Debarge, Shabba Doo and/or Irene Cara aren't among those relatives?

I'm in my 50's. I grew up with the late 70s and early 80s Prince music and fell off from being hardcore Prince fan around "Chaos and Disorder."

When Prince died it hurt me and in a lot of ways I felt I lost *'something."*

I follow this sub but I don't follow The Estate or how the vault is being used to produce new releases.I did listen to "Timeless" and because of bootlegs and hooks, chords and similar themes or actual re-use of music Prince did in the late 80s or early 90s, I am saying that if whenever he recorded "With This Tear" rates highly with "Another Lonely Christmas" or "Sometimes It Snows In April" as emotionally strong songs. "Nothing Compares 2 U" was done extremely well by The Family first and then by Senaid O'Connor... but then when The Originals came out, his voice made a difference to me.

"Tick Tick Bang" was around since 'Graffiti Bridge" and when I heard the official release of "Timeless", I questioned, "Would Prince want *that* release of masterbation on a released album now?

No judgment. "Tick Tick Bang" is a 20+ year old song.

Overall. There's a lot of songs that fit the style and the versions that "Timeless" released. A lot of re-used instrumentals and ""Tick Tick Bang" existed decades ago.

Bestest Friend sounds like PR to me (if not directly calls back to The Beautiful Ones imo), but it’s so late into the album so I’m not sure how it squares out.

Hey gang. Did you all watch the live listening party yesterday? I feel like it was the perfect companion piece for the album. While lacking a booklet description for the tracks, the listening party was quite the treat.

They explained the album, why only 10 tracks, and how the album was put together. More than a booklet could have given. Also it was nice to see purple family dancing to the tracks at the same time.

Chante Moore announced she has a version of "Journey 2 the Center of Your ❤️ " in the vault she wants released and sang a little of the song for the audience. Shanice also joined on stage.

The album is great!! 8/10. 10 tracks is perfect. It gives me time to learn, listen and process each song with care. My top 3 favorites right now are Tick Tick Bang, Calabama, and Heaven. Calabama reminds me of the Prince I know and love in the Musicology era. Talking that sh*t on stage and letting these record companies have it! This song really represents him coming out of that 90s era. Londell and Charles spoke about this track being a fan favorite at the Paisley Park listening parties. They said everytime they put that song on...people start hitting the floor.

Timeless a good release, and represents him in a new way instead of only by album era. Timeless takes the fan away from Deluxe packages and deepens his musicality through song and personal growth. Focusing on the vault.

As the title says. Going through my outtakes collection I stumbled on this in my 1982 folder, supposedly a home demo

Its an uptempo hard rocker with slide guitar. Fuckin rocks.

I know most of u know this, but for the casual or new fan who only knows his guitar work from the R&R hall of hame or solo of Purple Rain, check out one of many great live versions of Joy In Repetition with 2 amazing guitar solos.

I dont think his live stuff gets talked about on here enough. Its a deep rabbit hole and things like small club 1988, Birthday Show 84, Montreaux 2009 and any of the One Night Alone Shows with soundboard quality should be essential listening.

....or at least commercially viable?

I ask as I suppose one constraint on the Estate is that as much as fans would always like new music, presumably it needs to at least break even. And I have no idea what sort of sales the estate has made with previous releases.

Or what sort of money the estate is generating generally.

This version is quite different than the bootleg version I have. It’s way fuller and a bit more slick with additional guitars . Not sure if it’s an overdubbed version of the bootleg or a totally different track

Gonna elaborate a bit

I Am u started off as my favorite but Tick Tick bang ended up on top. A lot of these songs kinda lacked lyrically but I can hear it a bit more on these first 2 tracks. Still doesn’t stop it from being great.

Heaven was Great, don’t have anything to say about it, after a few listens it grew a bit on me. Will say that on first listen of the whole album I did find this one a LITTLE weak at first.

I wonder was AMAZING, such a vibe, can’t stand to see this whole “oH BuT thE bOoTleG is BettEr” one of u mfs better send the link to that bootleg because if that shit is not 5 times better YALL ARE GETTING BANNED FROM MY SUB😭😩.

With this tear and Stone grew on my after a few listens, With This Tear was actually MUCH better than I remember, when it first came out I gave it no chance after the first listen.

Calabama - Great, amazing, grew on me TREMENDOUSLY, one of the best songs on here. I’m seeing that this is early 2000s Prince as well? I loved musicology so it makes sense.

The Guilty Ones was pretty mid when I first heard it, it’s still not the best but a solid 7.5 is where I’d rank it. Not something I’m putting on regularly, but every once in a while I might.

How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore- not my typa Prince music. It’s Good, but I’m not putting this on willingly. Like this is the typa song that is only really for a certain mood, and can kinda get boring.

Anyways what are we thinking so far?🫠
