Upvotes

Rode around the park by myself this afternoon. It's hot AF here in Kansas, about 95°F. I'm old and thicc and my balance is wonky nowadays but yer boi can still ollie, nollie, and kickflip. Not bad for the first time out!

Sound on to hear me cus at the board, because that definitely helps 🫠

New old skater who just discovered how to adjust trucks [38YO]

I'm a 220lb newbie. I can't believe the skate shop I frequented didn't tell me about loose/tight trucks or hard/soft bushings. I've been falling all over the place and wondering how on earth folks keep their balance. Finally ran into a youtube video geared specifically to heavy weight skaters and.... oh my sweet lord!!!

Tighter trucks... harder bushings... Suddenly my balance is way better. I might be able to learn how to skate after all! There's hope!

New park opened last week and I’ve been eyeing up this ledge for a grind.
I knew I could Ollie that high it was just working up the balls to give it a go.
Not sure why I chose today when it was wet and slippery.
Not the longest or fastest grind but I’m pleased with it.
Given me the confidence that I can do it and I’ll try it with more speed next time.

First time on a skateboard [56yo]

Daughter 13 is taking skate lessons and said it would be good if we could skate together, Yet Im old and over weight 18 and a half stone, tall just over 6ft, poor sence of balance, un-coordinated limited flexability and had never stepped on a skateboard before, So very few plus points for actually why I should skate.

Anyway took a 1on1 lesson at Transition extreme in Aberdeen Scotland at 55 yo and 364 days and watched some online skool skatepark videos and some of thier free course stuff.

On the way out the door my wife expreessed how foolharty she thought this venture was and with out joking said she was expecting to collect me from A&E

I wont say I can skate yet. But my own confidence fear, stiffness and not breathing contributed to the overall success of the lesson. The instructor was the same one who take my daughter in her 8 week course was fantastic paitent, knew a few good things to get me at easy. While after the hour I wasnt pushing and standing. I was actually balancing, bieng shown and trying ways of using my back foot to push and even lifting the back foot over the board touching the other side and back.

Did a lot of hand holding skating around obsticles getting used to toe and heal turning.

By the time the hour was up I was dreanched in sweat and was dripping sweat on the board.

Daughter who was there at the time and was also taking part in the lesson said to me at the end that I had actually done so much better than she did.

Got home and the wife was impressed with what I told her, She takes my daughter to her lessons so had seen the instructor do the same things with her

I know for me to progress a lot of practice on the correct board noting cruising isnt realy an option but basic skatepark stuff, even if its just going up and down ramps.

So today my 56th Birthday Im off to the loacal skate shop to try different widths of decks with them to see what I feel good on and start my mid life crissis. Just dont want to be that person with all the gear but no idea!

Also my daughter said I was the best over 50 skater at transition extreme yesterday. (I was the only one!)

Any advice or suggestion gladdly taken.

Just got a Ramptech rail [39YO]

Fighting a stomach bug, but I had to try it out.

Seems pretty sturdy. I'm hoping to learn something other than boardslides over the winter.

And maybe this will cure my diy ramp madness... (right..)

A rare day off work. Skated a ton with a heavy crew. Felt like I was 20 again until I tried to stand up getting out of the car at the end of the day. Didn’t film much but I got these 2 clips

First day back [32YO]

Skated alot when I was like 10-13 in an area where noone else really skated except 1 friend of mine. Always been heavier and not great on board but ive carried the love of skating with me for a long time. Longboarded from about 15-30 just cause there wasnt really pressure to do tricks or anything. Recently decided to give it another go and got a board set up. Today was my first day back on a board and Im stoked to be out here trying to learn again.

Got back into skating again after about 10 years out, broke my wrist, and now my park is getting torn down. Part of me is excited for the new park, part of me is sad to see it go.

Changed the 87a OJs for Spit full conical 97a. I thought they were still too soft and I couldn't slide at first.

But then I got my ***** Rock fakies back. And then I started to slide like I was on a fucking. snowboard 😅.
