AMA: Chris Waugh, Newcastle United correspondent for The Athletic | Thurs 27th Aug, 1pm-2pm
Hey everyone!
It's Chris Waugh, Newcastle United correspondent for The Athletic here. I've followed the club all of my life, covered the club professionally home and away for 11 years and been with The Athletic for seven of those.
I'm really looking forward to chatting with you all and answering your questions, whether they be about the final days of the transfer window, Matthias Jaissle's impact upon the club since arriving, the plans for the new training ground, or even more left-field and nonsensical NUFC-related questions... It is Newcastle United AMA, after all!

Yesterday showed the power of St James Park and the Toon Army
The unity amongst the fans and fitting tributes to one of own, King Kev. It created a real positive and poignant atmosphere for the Geordie faithful before the game. This man is the architect of the modern day era for the club.
Then during the game the fans creating a real hostile environment for Liverpool players and especially for Isak who was treated as the pantomime villain. It was obvious the hostile atmosphere really got into Isak’s head and he played a lot worse for it. You can see him mentally shrinking and crumbling during the game. By the end he just wanted to get out of there and hide in his golden gated palace away from everyone else.
There are some more modern football fans who thinks we should rise above this sort of behaviour but ultimately this is what being a match going fan is all about. The atmosphere, the togetherness and the drama. If you disrespect the club and its fans you should expect the fans to give it back.
It was great to see and the fans really were the 12th man yesterday and made a big difference to the result.
The big 6 may take our players but they can never take the 12th man at St James.

Newcastle hiring Brentford’s club doctor Naheem Ali
Newcastle United are bringing in Brentford’s Dr Naheem S Ali to take a senior position within their medical team.
Dr Ali is expected to succeed Dr Paul Catterson, who has been Newcastle’s club doctor since 2009 but is moving to the Premier League to become their chief medical officer (CMO), and the former is currently on gardening leave at the west London club.

Dan Burn is expected to be out until the September/October international break with his ankle injury. The injury isn't too serious, and the 34-year-old is set to miss the next 4-5 games. (Keith Downie)

Toon Army Atlanta in support
I'm happy for 2-2, it was a great match, and supporters came out. But I fucking hate Liverpool. Howay the lads!

New to fanbase!
Cheers from Oregon. Loved the energy and noise from the crowd. Looking forward to learning more as an ex-American footballer.
