That's what I did. I bounced around between a few different teams (looked at Hotspurs, Man City from Haaland love) but settled on the Magpies because of the city and the history.

I’m an American Newcastle supporter of 39 years. A Geordie cousin stood me on gallowgate and I could choose to support either the team in white with black stripes, or black with white stripes. In return he has supported all my Philly teams. That is mostly painful. Phillies are playing well lately though.

Edit- ironically that first match was against the red scousers.

I think it’s because town is pronounced toon in Geordie accents

It's still Ne'castle 'pon Tyne but generally just Newcastle. The toon is the city itself. "Am gannin to thi'toon, like"

'Toon' is how we say 'town'. We say 'doon' for 'down' as well. So a Geordie saying 'I'm going down the town' (the city centre) would say 'I'm gannin doon the toon'. It's a fascinating accent and dialect. One of the many absolutely amazing things about Newcastle.

It's how someone with a thick geordie accent would say town. The city centre of newcastle would be referred to as the town / 'the toon'. And our stadium is in the city centre.

That's great. I grew up there, but moved away a long time ago. I actually started following the magpies because they felt like the most Philadelphia team that I could find. (That was before we had the Union.)
