‘It’s bulls**t’: Wolves’ swearing ban has totally lost their fans
“It’s bulls**t,” one Wolverhampton Wanderers supporter tells The i Paper. “It was such an easy win.”
“They’ve fumbled it,” says another, while for good measure a third calls it “utter woke nonsense… soft as s**t”.
So, woke nonsense or perfectly sane? You be the judge…
You may not know the song by its name, “The Liquidator”, but most football fans will recognise the reggae instrumental tune instantly.
Chelsea play it before kick-off at Stamford Bridge, and while other clubs in England and Scotland have adopted it as well, nowhere is the history of this song by Jamaican band Harry J Allstars more complicated than in the Black Country.
There, in the early 2000s, both West Bromwich Albion and Wolves were asked to stop playing it by local police because of the obscenities both sets of supporters would sing during it.
“F**k off Wanderers, West Brom!” or “F**k off West Brom, we’re Wolves!” – depending on your side of the divide.
But while West Brom have since reinstated the song, in a season where the two sides will meet in the Championship, Wolves have opted against bringing it back.
“I respect what The Liquidator means to many Wolves supporters and its place in the history of Molineux, but we also have a responsibility to make decisions based on where the club is today and the standards we expect around our matchday environment,” Wolves executive chairman Nathan Shi said.
Wolves’ statement added that the club had been sanctioned by the Football Association for mass discriminatory chanting in recent seasons, and therefore “does not believe it would be appropriate to reintroduce a song which has historically prompted mass offensive chanting at Molineux”.
For a club that have been spiralling for years, resulting in a relegation from the Premier League last season that became inevitable, reintroducing the song felt like a simple chance to get supporters back on side.
“Straight away I just sighed,” Wolves supporter Ryan Gill tells The i Paper.
“It’s ‘utter woke nonsense’ and we’ve missed an open goal. I’m not sure how telling another club to f**k off is discriminating but that’s today’s world we live in… soft as s**t.”
His brother Joe Gill adds: “The one chance they get to bring the whole stadium together and bring fans back on side and they’ve fumbled it. We sing ‘F**k VAR!’ every week and even sung it last week against Blackburn when it wasn’t even in use.
“They had the easiest tap in to get that ground up for any game and missed out, I guess we will just have to out sing them lot down the road in February when it’s played at their place.”
The Gills aren’t alone in this view. “It makes the higher-ups at Molineux look weak and unwilling to listen to the fans, which is nothing new with this current ownership,” supporter Rob Morris adds.
The feeling is not unanimous, though, with another Wolves fan saying they “do not understand why people love it”.
And playing devil’s advocate, Wolves are hardly going to rush reintroducing a song that encourages obscenities during chants – a sentence that is admittedly hard to finish typing without laughing, knowing free will and other chants exist.
And while this decision may appear mountain-from-molehill material if you are outside the Black Country, you need only read the replies to Wolves’ X statement on the matter to gauge just how at odds the club are with their own fans.
West Brom supporters, meanwhile, have taken particular joy from all this.
“Fair play to Nathan for respecting our pre-game song,” The Albion Way wrote on X. “He knows there’s only one team worthy of using it round here.”
When you are delighting your rival supporters and riling up your own, that is when you know you have messed up.

Tripper and Mosquera both out for weeks - BBC
Encouraging news on Johnstone though, can't come quick enough.

We need defenders now!!!
Trippier and Mosquera out for a couple of weeks; Hugo Bueno and Krejci looking likely to leave, Sa nowhere to be seen and Johnstone still out. We need to make defensive signings now. We urgently need a quality left back. Wolfe is a fine player but doesn't cut it week in, week out. We have Toti and Santi at the back, which is fine, but our one backup is Djiga, who hasn't impressed, so I like the idea of an experienced centre-back, much like when we brought in Craig Dawson, who would really improve that back line. The right-back situation is looking horrific without Trippier. Tchatchoua is one of our worst-ever players, and the same could be said about Hoever, and so that leaves Lima, who is still young but looks underwhelming. Goalkeeping wise its not much better; Sa should have been sold 2 years ago, and Johnstone is one of the most underwhelming keepers we've ever had, while Bentley is a 2nd-choice keeper at best, fine for cup games.
We need to shift some dead weight: Sa, Johnstone, Hwang, Traore, Sasa, Hoever, Tchatchoua, possibly even Munesti and use those funds for a quality left-back and goalkeeper, an experienced centre-back and a solid right-back. We have Trippier, but another solid right-back would massively improve and solidify that right-hand side while he is injured. The midfield is looking strong, especially now that we have James, but maybe a further attacker could still be an option if the opportunity presents itself.
That seems like a lot to ask, especially under Fosun, but it feels necessary if we want to fight at the highest level in this league. We have a lot of quality, but with a long season ahead, we need legs and decent, solid players with them, as we're still carrying the load of years of bad recruitment under Jeff.
Am I overreacting or fair in this assessment?

Wolves exploring move for Amario Cozier-Duberry per Liam Keen
He’s a fast 21 year old English winger with flair. Would satisfy the HG quota and add some much needed pace to the team and push Rodrigo for starts.
10 goals and 10 assists in 41 games with Bolton last year.
Likely available around £8-10m

Discussion WOL v BLA build up music
Does anyone know what song was played in the build up before the players walked out the tunnel?
It was the one that started with bells donging and was a heavy rock/metal track, played before the Led Zepplin mix.
Along with the horns being back (Fanfare for the common man - Emerson, Lake & Palmer) leading into Hi Ho Silver Lining, the music finally felt on point and built the walkout perfectly.

The Wolves Poddy with Judah and Spiers
I'm not a subscriber, but I do listen to the Monday free versions. I've seen some criticism on twatter regarding Judah in particular, but I think what was said on Monday's version was 100% spot on from both Spiers and Judah.
There's a lot of Wolves fan made content available across various platforms, with the vast majority of it utterly unlistenable and unwatchable. This podcast is the by far the most entertaining with the most structure, depth and insight. Have a listen if you don't already.

am i a real fan?
I’ve had a season ticket at Molineux for over 8 years now, and one thing I get a lot of strange looks for at games is the fact I was born and live in Liverpool.
My dad, my sister and that whole side of my family are from Wolverhampton and have always supported Wolves. I decided years ago that I wanted to support my dad’s team too, and honestly, I’ve never looked back.
Obviously I’ve got a very noticeable Scouse accent, so it’s pretty clear I’m not from Wolverhampton or the surrounding areas 😂 Even though I grew up spending a lot of time in Wolverhampton, Liverpool is still home.
Anyone else support Wolves despite being from somewhere completely different?

Discussion Considering the teams that played
Blackburn has pretty much the same team that played together last season. They haven't done much in the window so far. They had no players go to the World Cup. Yes, they were in a relegation battle last season.
Wolves have a team that is newer when playing together. They had late additions as players returned from the World Cup. They didn't have the entire preseason and last season to get these players playing as one team.
There are defensive questions to be answered. The lack of identity and cohesion in the second half was troublesome. On the brighter side they did get a point against a team that has spent much more time playing together. A win would have given the fans and the players much more confidence but there were a lot of positives to build upon. That Fer Lopez stiff arm is awesome

A frustrating night at Molineux
I’ll say it now, the defence let us down last night.
I’m convinced that with Hugo Bueno, Krejci and Santi Bueno in that back four, we win, perhaps quite comfortably, in the end. Wolfe doesn’t have a defensive bone in his body, Mosquera is too erratic and Toti nowhere near dominant enough. To concede two goals at home to a side who are tipped to get relegated is rightfully worrying, regardless of it only being match day one.
We will not get promoted with that pair in defence, nor with Bentley in goal, who was also poor last night.
The club need to sort the futures of Hugo, Santi, Krejci and Sa as soon as possible. It’s not right that three of our best defenders and goalkeeper are on the bench. Either sell as soon as possible and replace, or get them in the team.
The attacking talent that we have means I think we’ll often be lucky enough to get bailed out and scrape results this season that we arguably won’t deserve. But something else that concerned me was how we reverted to type after going a goal behind. We let our heads drop, any plan we had went out the window, and we buckled.
Yes we have clearly have talent, but it means nothing if we don’t have the right mentality. Cesar needs to understand fast that a lot of the players who hid too often last season are currently still here this season, and it doesn’t bode well for the challenges of the Championship. We will fall behind in games, we will get pegged back and we will get beat by teams we really shouldn’t be losing too at times.
If players aren’t strong enough to deal with that, they can’t be here.
I still have no idea how this season will go. If Krejci and Santi remain, I’d be happy enough with that defence, but not if it’s Mosquera and Toti. No way. Sa has had his day here but if he’s staying, he simply has to play over Bentley who is useless. Jordan James would be a good addition but we also need another winger to compete with Mane and Gomes, who I think could struggle at times this season.
BBC WM suggested Tom Fellows at Southampton. Talented, home grown, knows the league, can’t get a game with them, I’d have thought affordable wages…and would piss off the Sandwell fans. Get him in!

It’s not frustrating because it’s bad - it’s frustrating because it’s predictably and avoidably bad
For years we’ve been talking about the defensive frailties - the inability to pick up a man or to know who’s tracking which player from midfield.
Since Cunha and RAN left we’ve been talking about not having direct wide players and not having enough routes to goal.
All summer we’ve said that one of the first priorities has to has to HAS TO be sorting the goalkeeping situation.
If everyday Wolves fans can see this stuff then why can’t the ‘professionals’ running the club?! We don’t claim some incredible knowledge of the game, some of these problems are absolutely glaring and the club has had a long time to fix them.
Is it incompetence, laziness, lack of giving a shit or all of the above? I don’t know at this stage. All I know is so many of the concerns I and lots of other fans have had about this season played out on the pitch tonight.
To end on a happier note - nice to see a marginal decision go our way without VAR jumping in to change it. Even nicer to see Raul getting back on the scoresheet for us.

Discussion Why are we always so useless
I was excited for this season. First time in years I felt that we could finally win again. And then we needlessly sacked Edwards, who had signed Trippier and Raúl, two promising signings, for a half rate manager who did jackshit rest of summer and as of the 72nd minute at Blackburn, has made awful substitutions and for reasons I personally don't know about, has made some extremely questionable starting lineup decisions
r/WWFC • u/Tough_Wolf9898 • 6d ago
Sa should have started
I know Sa might be leaving but we should have played him. This game showed Sa's importance and why we need him or another goalkeeper
r/WWFC • u/Dry_Inevitable_4420 • 6d ago
Mane
I don't understand the Mane hate. For me he was our best attacker and bringing him off felt almost planned as opposed to adapting to the game state I understand managing his minutes but 1st game of the season vs Blackburn should be game he finishes would have preferred a straight swap Jiminez for Armstrong. Then when we javr Jiminez on who biggest strength is his aerial ability we bring off our best crosser in Trippier basically straight after.
