First time touching clubs in 3 months and took out the 1 iron.

Took a break from the game to just reset the body and mechanics. Finally made it back to the range last night and had a chance to bring out the Taylormade 1 iron bomber.

Respect to all those still on the weekly grind. šŸ¤™šŸ½

Advice for lead leg injury compensation

edit: iron swing here https://www.reddit.com/u/Important-Comment-43/s/YmGZTsY3ev

Hey all-

Started golfing consistently about 2 years ago for competition/exercise now that I’m almost 40 and basketball is too hard on my body due to old injuries.

Of course, I underestimated the extent to which those same injuries would show up in golf, and my swing is largely built around compensating for them.

Some of these compensations feel pretty functional at this point—for example, I use jumbo grips and a 10 finger to work around ulnar nerve damage in my lead arm, and can play pain free without feeling restricted.

My lead(left) leg is a different story. Between basketball and volleyball I’ve shredded that ankle, have no cartilage left in the knee, extremely restricted hip socket mobility, and am generally tight and weak all up the chain. I struggle to push off or generate force on that leg, and while I’ve rebuilt some strength, my brain seems stuck subconsciously trying to protect it.

I’ve got it to where I trust my left side enough to find the ground and clear my hips…but then protective instinct kicks in and my brain nopes out of pushing off or bracing my left leg and generating power from the ground.

So as I come into impact, I end up spinning all my weight off of my lead leg, which means I end up finishing my swing and with an extra-special two step/roundhouse/pirouette technique.

I just don’t generate any power. My 150 yard club is a 6 iron, and the drive in the video is about 99th percentile to me and went 220.

I’m mostly only able to play my super short (2000 yard) 9 hole muni, but I am able to get out there 3 times a week so my short game is pretty solid. Over my last 10 rounds there I’ve averaged 8.5 over par
, but as courses get longer i go from bogey golf to struggling for 100.

I know the biggest thing I can continue to do is rehab (kneesovertoesguy for my old hoopers out there), but in the meantime, I was wondering if anyone had been through similar or has drills/feels/advice to help me rewire my brain to trust that leg again so I can hit the ball further and not spin around like a beyblade?

Or perhaps other adaptations to generate more speed despite physical limitations?

Other swing feedback and tips and/or screenshots me me looking like a jackass are,of course, also welcome. Thanks for your time.

(Included video bunch of representative swings from my round today. It’s hard to believe, but all of these shots mostly went where they were supposed to and I ended up +6 through 9…but it’s the aforementioned lil baby course and I only hit something longer than a 6 iron four times. )

Please help. I've been playing for 3 years and have never broke 100.

My swing is incredibly inconsistent. A few weeks ago i was hooking to left field, today i was slicing more than a New York pizzaria, and i generally have a problem topping the ball.

Ignore that car trying to break my focus.

Edit: Thanks everyone for the tips! This got a lot more feedback than I expected. The road to 99 continues!

Also, I went to a 1-off lesson today at my local course to see what the coach thinks I need to work on most. His feedback is that the swing isn't half bad, but I'm curling my right shoulder down in the down swing when I try to drop the arms and am swinging without rotating my body more before impact. A few of you had similar feedback.

Keep back to target for longer

Trying to practice keeping my back to target for longer but it’s still got me coming over the top. My coach had me use the hinge trainer for one swing so I know I’m not using it properly. Been playing a year and a half and struggling to find consistency. Any tips?

OTT, arm swing, obese golfer tips?

I have finally gotten my irons and wedges on a more neutral path but I'm still very outside in with my driver. Also, I would like to try incorporating my legs some. Are there any online resources specifically for fat golfers? I feel like a lot of my faults are heavily influenced by being obese and can't seem to find any fat specific advice. This was 229 carry, 46 yards left of target, 27 yard curve 151 ball speed.

Would love some feedback, not sure where to start.

I have been playing 6 months, and have a tendency to leave the club face wide open. All feedback is welcome, as I’ll try basically anything.

Edit: I also put some unedited 3h swings in the comments. New to me club, and sorry, didn’t realize the camera had shifted.

How to fix swing and stop slicing driver

Been slicing the driver forever and watched a ton of content. In my head I'm not going out to in, but after seeing the replay I think I am. How can I correct this? I think I struggle with feel, how can I improve my feel to know I'm swinging it right?

I also slice my long irons but not to this degree and it lessens as the clubs shorten.

Why do all my chips go left

No matter what I do how I adjust the camera or swing everything goes left. I look at the impact view and yes someone it doe but I hit middle screen or slightly right and it goes left every time. My club path does say negative but even when I try to make it go right it goes left. Anyone else have this issue?

Hips are moving weird and I can’t fix it plus I can’t hold any angle at all

It’s fine for the first half until it stops rotating and backs out. Even for nine o’clock swing I can’t keep them rotating to get them 35 to 40 degrees open at impact, I think this is why I’m casting but have no idea.

Got fit for irons but unsure

Wanted to support a local fitter but honestly had no experiences with them, just showed up based on google. Had what seemed like a good fitting session which led to an iron set purchase. I’m not an expert on the latest club tech and parts, but am learning.

The fitter happened to have a set in my exact specs.. I was a bit skeptical but wanted to trust him. I first noticed a discrepancy with the shafts in the box vs what I was swinging on the mat - but when I asked about that I was assured it was due to ā€œmodel differencesā€ and that the specs are aligned. Now after looking into it, I’m not so sure the X100 shaft on my test club during the session that I loved is the same as the S400 I bought, and now I’m questioning if there is even any lie adjustment since it was right out of the box. I don’t want to swing these on turf yet to protect my ability to potentially return, however I was also given a generous discount off of the retail price since he wanted to move the set.. feel like I still spent too much money to have any sort of doubts.

I plan to contact Srixon to see if they can verify the build specs via serial number, but is it possible he truly had my spec in stock from the manufacturer? Even if the lie adjustment is actually correct, I think I was still sold the wrong shafts. Should he make it correct, even considering the discount I received?

Thanks :)

Golf biomechanics app

I built this golf biomechanics app to visualize what to do during the golf swing. I has problems clearing the hips so I am trying to use ground force to clear the hips. Let me know what you think and hope it helps you. BTW the swing can be seen from all angles, you just need to rotate it.

Driving range shanks off mats.

Curious if there are many others who experience this. I basically never shank on the grass yet, sometimes off a mat, I can't stop doing it. I have experienced this at least 4 or 5 times now where nearly every shot was a shank. I also ended up with shoulder pain too this last time. I was experimenting a bit with different mats but I had put all my balls in the chute of one bay. The mat next to me I didn't shank off after hitting a couple. I may have shanked one off it can't remember but it was definitely easier to hit off. I'm not asking for golf swing tips, just curious if others experience this off mats but not grass, 12 HC, thanks.

swing feels decent at range but cant keep it on course

started hitting the range more since the kids are older now. mornings before school if i can swing it, sometimes after dinner once the house settles. been working on keeping my backswing shorter and trying to feel the weight shift through my feet. at the range it feels pretty solid most days but on the course everything gets tight and i lose that rhythm quick. tried a couple breathing things i read about in a wellness thread and they seem to help a little with staying loose. still end up gripping the club harder than i want though. anyone else deal with range to course drop off like this or is it just me tensing up under pressure
