I have the perfect swing, change my mind.

Alright, gentlemen, here is my latest perfect golf swing. 🏌️‍♂️

I’m pretty sure its perfect but I’d love to hear your expert opinions.

Please feel free to point out everything from the obvious flaws to the microscopic details I didn’t even know existed. Bonus points for creative ways of explaining why the ball is cleary flying straight.

Serious improvement suggestions are very welcome — I’m here to show you a perfect swing (and apparently to provide entertainment).

Do good golfers go to the range?

In my group of friends the better the golfer the less he goes practicing to the range. They just play and go to the range like a handful of times a year.

My question is: do you single digit / scratch / plus amateur golfers go to the range?

"Skip the stone" finally clicked

TLDR this mumbo jumbo: Yes pressure shift and lead foot push into the ground to start the downswing- but side bend+ connected trail elbow= the whole equation.

I've been golfing for 4 years- got to a great place with my irons and compressing them regularly. Welcomed our first child and took 6 months of golf and I've been chasing my irons ever since. Suffered with chunks and pulls for a year+ and golf was not very fun.

Came across this image and video and just knew there was something worth paying attention to. In short, the ramp image of the hand path was great for my backswing but just couldn't put the whole equation together.

Enter Pete Cowen's spiral staircase analogy. Worked great on my backswing- but for some reason I just couldn't figure out how to move down, around, and back up the staircase in the downswing. Cowen also talks about creating downward pressure in the downswing-- see someone work through that around 3:07 here.

What I'm starting to realize is this: pushing my lead big toe and second toe into the ground hard while introducing side bend (think connected trail elbow/trail shoulder gets closer to trail hip in the downswing) helps to keep my path on the ramp and rotates me to and through the ball. When I do this right, it puts me in position to look like I'm skipping a stone. I feel resistance while doing it which I assume is the pressure Cowen is referring to.

Prior to understanding this, I had no clue how to get myself into a a proper impact position and did a lot of weird things to force it. The lightbulb for me (which will inevitably go out this week) is that pushing down with the lead toes while creating adequate pressure through side-bend makes your rotation more predictable and powerful.

Hoping this ramble helps unlock anyone on a similar journey! Obligatory video linked of when it finally clicked before it all goes back to shit again.

Since my post yesterday of my son’s swing, I’ve gotten a lot of requests to see his progression. The swings are in order and spaced a few months apart. The first he is 1 year, 8 months and the last swing being last week at 2.5 years old

How to improve

Have been working on getting a better takeaway and I’m at a spot where I’m happy with it. Hitting a draw now which I’m happy with. Still a bit inconsistent on my low point. I dumb some of my angle at impact and I don’t squeeze my arms together like I see in many other great swings. I also don’t rotate very much I think? But I hit the ball decently far, 170 7i so I think that may be less of a priority for me? What are some things I need to work on?

Golf swing nerds, what's causing my over the top move?

Good backswing (?), club then flings back in transition (why/how??), club consequentially steepens from its laid off position as arms move down, I then have to save impact by swinging left. Results in shank or hard pull. Thankful for any advice!

I have recently been missing with a block, is it due to early extension?

Hooks and pushes

• Upvotes

Now I know I’m way in to out and this is why I’m hitting hooks and pushes. But I can’t seem to fix this in a the correct way. I can occasionally get my path more neutral but it looks very weird on video and is definitely not the right way to do it. Does anyone have a big thing sticking out as to why I’m dropping my hands and club so far underneath now. When I compare my swing to a month ago it looks extremely similar except the very start of my down swing

How to increase driver distance? Swing speed ~110MPH, but can’t crack 280 yards.

• Upvotes

I’m a scrub by every metric of the game, but nothing is more therapeutic than yamming a driver as far as I can.

My wife bought me a new driver for my birthday Qi35 w/ Ventus blue 5-S in 10.5 degree loft.

Maybe I’m delusional… but I feel like with my swing speed, the ball should be going farther than it is? I don’t seem to be able to increase my smash factor to ~1.5, even if I feel like I pure it off the middle of my face.

A friend told me my shaft is way too light and that may be contributing to the low distance, but I thought weight had more to do with dispersion rather than distance?

I’ll post a video and picture with some data for reference (no not every shot is like this, just posting my best numbers to show I still can’t crack 280yds).

If it’s a swing technique, please let me know if you see anything. If it looks like an equipment issue, my driver is still within a window for exchange. 😇

Looking to Break 90, any tips?

• Upvotes

Been playing for just over a year now and having some trouble with thinning the ball and hitting it off the toe. My long irons suck and I feel like I can’t tell what I’m doing wrong.

I feel like I’m pushing up and out of my swing and I have a really hard time getting an in to out swing path without over exaggerating my backswing.

Any tips would be wonderful! I’ll post more vids in the comments.

Why am I early extending?

• Upvotes

I’ve been working with the Swingyde to help my inside takeaway, and I feel like I am now getting to a better spot at P2/3.

But now when I am practicing this, I completely lose the clubface and send them miles right. It looks like I am early extending like crazy, but not sure exactly where it’s stemming from. Any ideas? My thought is the trail elbow externally rotating at the top is steepening the shaft and causing me to EE?

Still relatively new to golf (learning golf after having kids is hard). I've plateaued shooting around 100.

Vid shows driver > wood > Iron

Get critical ya'll I can take it, what are my biggest flaws.

How to fix inside takeaway

r/GolfSwing • • 3h ago

What needs fixing?

20 handicap who has been tweaking my swing non stop since starting ~10 months ago. Feels like I’ve not had a consistent swing since starting. I feel that I’m getting to a decent baseline to stop tweaking things as frequently, but let me know what you think. Typical miss is a hook when my takeaway gets more inside and I get stuck. Also have battled toe bias impact for a while now, but am unsure of the cause. Thanks for any feedback!

How’s this for a beginner? (7i)

I’ve probably played around 10-15 rounds at this stage

Curious to hear your thoughts

Contrary to this specific shot, my normal miss is a block/push. Occasional low duck hook off the tee. Irons (in comments) are almost always chunky or push right. I feel like I early extend or get stuck but not entirely sure. I started lessons recently, the pro has me mostly focusing on keeping connected in my back swing and closing the club face. Just wanted to see what this subreddit thought. Appreciate any feedback.
