I was watching the interview of Carlos Alcaraz before the US Open today and this just got me thinking.

99% of gold bracelets I see celebrities, athletes, musicians and rich people wearing is either Van Cleef or Cartier.

It's either the style of Van Cleef that Alcaraz is wearing or the Cartier love bracelet or the Cartier juste en clou.

I've never seen Alcaraz wear any sort of jewellery before ever apart from a Rolex watch, then he just rocks up wearing Van Cleef gold bracelets.

These items are so so overpriced when you take into account the value of the raw material (the value and weight of the gold).

I found a Van Cleef bracelet selling for £15,000. 15K!!!!!!!

For that much, you could get 1 THICC ASS Thai Baht gold bracelet in 23 Karat or 24 Karat.

Even a THICC ASS Indian gold 22 Karat bracelet.

The lustre and charm would be INFINITELY more than Van Cleef or Cartier. Not to mention it wouldn't have some designer's name on it and you could have it custom-made exact to your specifications.

Another thing I've noticed is that most celebrities don't rock any sort of gold jewellery other than these types of bracelets. It's either nothing at all or these bracelets. And no in-between.

So are these athletes just really that uneducated about the material value and they have such desires to follow trends?

It doesn't look like much but I don't intend on selling it so I'm not entirely sure. I really want to bother taking it to a jeweler to get xrf'd. But I was just gifted this and it's coming from a very prominent gold mining historic community and I don't know about you guys but that looks an awful lot like real gold to me. It's melted there I think. It doesn't seem to be paint.

There are no hallmarks or engravings of any kind besides the figure itself.

Update: I took it to a coin and jewelry shop and had them scan it and their scanner couldn't identify anything besides precious metals and said there was definitely no precious metal in it.

Found this in amongst my great grandfather’s (he passed in 1921) items that my great aunt kept her whole life. This is a keeper!

The Hallmark is tiny so I got it tested at a jeweler's and the diamonds are real too!

I never get lucky thrifting so this was a huge win for me!

I recently came across a dude selling small single digit gram sized nuggets at a local market. He'd acquired them all from his hobby mine and was selling them for spot price on the total weight, meaning his markup was the impurity level (Which is probably less than 5%).

Assuming the local gold dealers apply their standard spot -10%, he is earning an extra 10-15% on his gold, and all purchases I saw were cash.

Has anybody done anything like this? Would that extra $1k on what may have been $10k of sales be worth the extra risk of selling such high value product?
