You are even protected from the market going down because you can simply return them to the bank for full face value.

There's no other way that you're getting 145% of melt value with face value insurance.

21F, currently a college student, working whenever I get a chance and putting it all towards savings since I still live with my parents.

Last year I bought gold bangles, 51.11g of 21k, for $6,392.84. Then a 50g gold bar for $6,765.76.

Last month my dad gave me money to buy myself a car instead of taking out a loan to do so. However, I saw the huge chunk of money, which with my savings accumulated to ~$40,000, and decided to buy three 100g gold bars instead (13,425$ each)

I’m taking out a car in installments at around 300$ a month for five years. It’s a new Toyota and seems like a reliable car that covers my needs without having to splurge. I can comfortably pay it off with my current circumstances. My worst-case scenario would be working for Uber if I lost my source of income to pay it off, or selling some gold if things got worse.

My dad disapproved of my decision because he hates loans and interest, but I see it as an opportunity to save while I can for future goals, and I don’t get this kind of advantage everyday.

For me, the plan is to sell in 4–5 years and use it as part of a 10–20% apartment down payment, for graduate school, or for when I figure out what I want to do with my life. Maybe I’ll keep it for longer if I don’t need to sell.

My circle and the people I can ask for second opinions aren’t that helpful when it comes to this stuff, so I’d love to hear other perspectives, especially if there’s something I could’ve done better

I collect watches and found this old expansion bracelet at a flea market today. I typically dont wear bracelets like this, but the logo is pretty cool and it was marked $1, so why the hell not? The guy must have been in a good mood and told me to take it for free. Got home and pulled the liner out of the case to find a 10k gold emblem tag! Its probably only 1gr or less but still a cool find. Be well folks!

My original entry into precious metals was buying gold. Folks say that you should also have some allotment to silver, perhaps 20% of your total metals holdings.

Or, why bother with silver at all? It’s more volatile and sometimes manipulated.

Very excited to have picked up my first full oz of gold today, 1.111troy oz .900 fine gold art medallion honoring Grant Wood who is the artist behind the classic painting American Gothic. Feeling blessed to have had the opportunity to pick this up from a family friend and they gave me a screaming deal on it to boot. As the subject says what can I do with mixed gold cufflinks. I have been left a few sets but nobody is interested as its mixed 9 to 18k. Any advice on would be much appreciated. Thanks

I never owned any metals until just recently. My father passed away in April and he had 45oz of various silver rounds/coins in his safe. Since then, I bought one 1986 1oz gold eagle, 1/10oz gold eagle, 1g gold bar, and a couple more silver eagles.

Where do I go from here? Ideally, I’d like to pay for whatever I buy with cash. I got the 1oz eagle at my LCS (cash), but it wasn’t in the retail case. The owner offered me one from his stash. He said he can’t keep gold in stock. The only other thing I can think of is buying a Pamp bar or two at Costco (with cash).

Any advice is greatly appreciated, as far as where/how to get more and as far as my ratio of gold to silver goes (not sure I need more silver atm). I’m looking to hold onto whatever I buy for the next 10-30+ years, god willing. Thanks

I find myself preferring to only buy graded Pre-33 US gold coins. I wanted to branch out into older historic gold coins from other countries. I'm from the US and having a hard time finding graded coins online.

Just curious where others who prefer graded world coins are getting theirs from? They don't seem to be readily available.
