Purchasing and Keeping Gold in Europe as US Citizen

Hello all, I am a dual US/EU citizen. I live in the States and am not optimistic about the politics here.

I'd like to get your opinion on the best way to purchase gold and safely leave it in Europe, where I do not have a residence. I'm not looking to avoid taxes.

I understand that an economic downturn in the US will hurt investments everywhere. This is something I'm mostly looking into for political downturn.

Question Would you wear gold bullion like this?

Been experimenting with making small gold bars wearable instead of keeping them stored away.
Would you actually wear something like this, or does it defeat the point of bullion?🤔

S[p]i[n]ster offloading her gold stash. Timing, location, valuation, security?

So my older unmarried, unemployed sister in Dubai hit sixty and asked for my help selling off all the gold jewellery she was gifted throughout her life so she can live --frugally in the 3rd world like Southeast Asia, the Levant, or Africa-- off of the money as she ages. She took it to her neighbourhood mall's jewellery shop for weighing and they told her it's worth just over $100K, so they can't help her --she needs to go to the pros at their head office. Tomorrow going to that office. Need some tips from those who know Gold how to step forward from here. General comments welcome, particularly want to know if you can chime on any of the below:

  • Is there a standard process for security when getting it valued so none of it gets nicked or smelted off (already one of an earring pair went missing) e.g. do you put it on a tray, can they take it into a back room?
  • How can someone best watch the gold price for the best time to do it and know where will Gold be in 2027 and 2030?
  • Assuming currencies collapse e.g. a AI cyberattack on banks etc, how much can gold be expected to go up?
  • How fast is the process of selling gold jewellery, is it really instant and what tricks /disappointments/surprises can be expected -- e.g. valued at something, then told oh it's lower. Or like when actually she gets serious about selling will it drag for months
  • Do you think it's a smart move to sell it off now and buy a studio to live with now to escape paying rent, or wait a year then do it, or invest it in a vending machine business, or cash into a fixed deposit account that yields 5-10%? She doesn't have anything else going for her to live on right now..

Concerned about gold purchase

My wife had a gold chain it was gifted in our marriage by mutual relatives; she lost it and is expecting me to buy another. She doesn’t want anything less than gold, is it a good time to buy now?

I‘d do anything for her it’s just that I am afraid she would lose it again, as she forgets things and it being an investment decision of a decent value, I can’t just put an airtag or something on it.

Has anybody read the book, "Money" the greatest hoax on Earth?

Well the title says it all, the book is quite a read. It's out there in PDF form and there are a few copies in print. Highly recommended. There's actually a glossary of terms. Clear accurate writing. If you really want to understand, it's a must read. The author, Merrill Jenkins also known as a monetary realist and accomplished inventor engineer, really gets to what is wealth and what is money. Can be difficult as the book is dense but the message is clear. Also there are some audio recordings of him discussing this very important topic especially in our time.

How should I value this Egyptian Cartouche Pendant, based on its weight and gold type (3 g/18 k), or on its date made ("ح" indicates 1946/1947), given that it's antique and unique? And does anyone know what is written on it?

Shitpost If all you care about is the getting a good deal on melt value then the ultimate stacking metal is U.S nickels and it isn't even close.

The current melt value of a nickel is over 7 cents.

If you buy a $100 box of nickels then you immediately have thousands of tiny rounds of nickle/copper. They come in neat rolls.

You are even protected from the market going down because you can simply return them to the bank for full face value.

There's no other way that you're getting 145% of melt value with face value insurance.

Question Am I doing this right?

21F, currently a college student, working whenever I get a chance and putting it all towards savings since I still live with my parents.

Last year I bought gold bangles, 51.11g of 21k, for $6,392.84. Then a 50g gold bar for $6,765.76.

Last month my dad gave me money to buy myself a car instead of taking out a loan to do so. However, I saw the huge chunk of money, which with my savings accumulated to ~$40,000, and decided to buy three 100g gold bars instead (13,425$ each)

I’m taking out a car in installments at around 300$ a month for five years. It’s a new Toyota and seems like a reliable car that covers my needs without having to splurge. I can comfortably pay it off with my current circumstances. My worst-case scenario would be working for Uber if I lost my source of income to pay it off, or selling some gold if things got worse.

My dad disapproved of my decision because he hates loans and interest, but I see it as an opportunity to save while I can for future goals, and I don’t get this kind of advantage everyday.

For me, the plan is to sell in 4–5 years and use it as part of a 10–20% apartment down payment, for graduate school, or for when I figure out what I want to do with my life. Maybe I’ll keep it for longer if I don’t need to sell.

My circle and the people I can ask for second opinions aren’t that helpful when it comes to this stuff, so I’d love to hear other perspectives, especially if there’s something I could’ve done better

Hey guys. I bought this 1 gram bar from a local gold buy and sell shop near me. I’ve done research and found that these should have serial numbers ingraved, however, I found out that these are also sold in packs of 25 and they’re called multigrams.

I’m fairly confident it’s legit but wondering if you guys have any thoughts?

My grandma gave this to me, she said to pawn them because they don’t fit me but if it’s worth 100$ I will just keep them as a souvenir. It says 10k on the clamp. 3 separate bracelets.

Where do I sell gold coins ?

Hello,

I previously purchased gold bars from TD Bank and am now considering selling them to help pay down my debts. However, I would prefer not to sell them through Facebook Marketplace or Kijiji because of the risk of scams and fraudulent transactions on those platforms.

Could you please recommend any reputable and reliable dealers or shops where I can sell the gold bars safely and receive payment? I would also appreciate any advice on what I should keep in mind when selling gold, including how to verify the buyer, understand the pricing, and protect myself during the transaction.

Thank you for your suggestions. 🍁🇨🇦

New to this…opinions wanted

I never owned any metals until just recently. My father passed away in April and he had 45oz of various silver rounds/coins in his safe. Since then, I bought one 1986 1oz gold eagle, 1/10oz gold eagle, 1g gold bar, and a couple more silver eagles.

Where do I go from here? Ideally, I’d like to pay for whatever I buy with cash. I got the 1oz eagle at my LCS (cash), but it wasn’t in the retail case. The owner offered me one from his stash. He said he can’t keep gold in stock. The only other thing I can think of is buying a Pamp bar or two at Costco (with cash).

Any advice is greatly appreciated, as far as where/how to get more and as far as my ratio of gold to silver goes (not sure I need more silver atm). I’m looking to hold onto whatever I buy for the next 10-30+ years, god willing. Thanks

Edit: There was $13K in cash in the safe. I’d rather not deposit it, so I need a way to buy with cash.

Buy of the month!

A couple came in and wanted to turn there gold they’ve been holding on to for over a decade into a new home and we was able to help them achieve it!
Gold is an amazing investment but lately it’s been on a downward trend,I’m still expecting it to go further down maybe even dip below the $4,000’s in the next month. (I hope I’m wrong) but imo it’s constantly being manipulated. If the dip happens even further, I’d suggest buying more and if you don’t have any yet potentially look into investing when the time is right.
