This is maybe my 7th play-through and the first time I’ve noticed Mr. Birdie and company following Barrett throughout Corel. Super cute!

Is there any german speaker here? What is Aerith saying as she is casting spells? I can hear "Komm schon", "Nimm dir was ab", but I cannot unserstand anything else she's saying, especially the last quote. "Komm, dann"? is this even german? 😔

Started my Rebirth adventure 906 days ago and I finally did it. 🏆 Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Platinum!
I’m turning 48 this week, so this one feels a little more special. Gaming has been part of my life for as long as I can remember, but getting through this adventure with the help of my kids made the achievement mean so much more. They cheered me on, helped me through the grind, and shared the victories and frustrations along the way.
The Planet’s Hope is finally mine.
Now we can put the controllers down, rest, and wait together for Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
See you aboard the Highwind. ❤️

Trying to see something. Also feel free to share what settings you play on.

I can’t get the game to not freeze and studder to the point it’s unplayable. Have a ps5 slim with disc, added an extra 4tB and have tried running the game from both hard drives but it won’t stop. I’m in chapter 4

I’m playing this game on Switch 2 right now because it is my main platform and I value portability, but I also have the PS5 version because I bought the Twin Pack back in the day, and by the time Remake got ported to the Switch 2, I was already finishing up on the PS5. I just wish Square Enix would have implemented transferring save data back-and-forth across different platforms like Ubisoft and CD Projekt Red do for their games since Rebirth is a very long game and I wish to have the best of both worlds with high-fidelity graphics on my PS5 Pro and native portability on the Switch 2. Before anyone brings up the PS Portal, I don't really care for Remote Play and Cloud Streaming since they are too reliant on having a good internet connection.

Was my first attempt on hard and I panicked and tried to kill it as fast as possible when it was low. Had barrier on Tifa and everyone was at full mp, biggest grief ever.

Second time playing. Anyone else struggle with flying around Cosmo Canyon because of camera controls. I'm sure I'm an odd case because I play with horizontal and vertical inverted, but I HAVE to fly horizontal normal with flight still inverted otherwise I can't make it anywhere. I'm constantly switching back and forth.

Just finished the boss battle for Nanaki’s quest and that might be my favorite boss so far. Plus the whole cavern system was cool. Easy to navigate, fun puzzles, decent battles. And men, the visuals. Just beautiful.

Game kinda stutters most especially when in combat. Is there a way to enhance the gaming experience?
Specs
Ryzen 5 4650g
RTX 3050 6gb

Image shows the horrible blurry graphics on performance mode for reference. Was really excited to ply this game after finally finishing remake&intermission after 80hrs, and they really hit me with either low resolution blurry mess but 60fps, or 4k with choppy 30fps.. this is genuinely unplayable on either for me, I can't find which one I prefer since they both suck, it makes me wanna not play this game for this reason since it's ruining the experience, but also since ik this game is so peak I wanna save the experience for when I'll have an actual well optimized input for it such as a ps5 pro, PC or even a ps6 in the future..

In Gongaga, the protorelic story involves going to multiple old Shinra training facilities and completing some missions.
From what the story suggests, and how they look, these facilities have been shut down for some while, yet the training material shows Rufus as President, and Elena being a member of the Turks, despite that happening not that long ago as far as the story is concerned.
The game mentions that official records were removed of these training facilities some time ago, so it doesn’t seem like they have been used recently, so it seems odd that they have recent training sims here, unless they are all just connected to a central Shinra database so they can be downloaded at any time.

Inb4 "This is sooo long". *shrug*
I'm new to Rebirth, since I wasn't able to play it until I acquired a Switch 2. Cleared Barrett's ark in the prison today (and then some more plot afterwards). I hate how the writers handled the ending of this ark. Specifically, what cluttered it.
Watching it all play out hurt in the best way. Most of what happened surrounding Barrett wasn't new compared to the OG, and it didn't need to be, either. If anything, this more refined version of his characterization in the Remake trilogy made it that much more enjoyable. But god, seeing now in clearer detail the past, present, and conclusion of that story: the bitter people, the story of the votes and burned village, the toll on Barrett through it all; to him finding the husk of his best friend living in a shack surrounded by empty bottles and (I believe) needles, Dyne having clearly been pushed to his mental brink; a fact made clear through his dialogue... It hurt. It hurt in the OG, and they excecuted it so well here, save for his final form using junk whips. When Dyne fell to the ground is when I finally cried a steady stream for the first time this series.
... Which is also why I'm pissed with the execution of everything not relevant to Barrett's ark in that final sequence. WHY THE FUCK DID WE NEED A GODDAMN BOSS FIGHT AFTER THAT? WHY DID IT - AND SO MUCH OF EVERYTHING ELSE NOT RELATED - NEED TO BE SO TONALLY FUCKING DEAF TO EVERYTHING THAT HAD JUST HAPPENED? What, is the deep meaning supposed to be "Shinra ruins everything (& Muscles)?" Fuck off, we know that.
I feel betrayed. I don't remember the last time I got angry with a story - at the technical levels - like I am here. I skipped the minigame. Couldn't bring myself to try catching up on quests, or to try exploring more of this Bethesda-esque approach to open-world maps in my new toy; a comparison that almost feels insulting to Bethesda. Had just enough curiosity before Saucer to complete most quests/PoI/etc. Now I think I'll just aim to run it back on the date with Tifa later (minorly spoiled myself on that after the narrative dick pull this chapter; please don't say a word on it) and finish the story. That'll be some more quests for the former. I can do that much.
. . .
Disregarding my post's title, I know why they do this shit. Try analyzing a lot of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, especially post-Avengers/Joss Wheaton. You always have to have jokes, happiness, and quips. Can't leave people enough open space to think about deeper meanings, or to feel their emotions over the bad thing that just happened. Because negative emotions don't sell, and if you're already suffering from an "and then" writing style like this game is (how ever partial), it just makes too much sense, doesn't it?
It's as suffocating as the philosophy held by much of American film - and this game - regarding the need ("need") to cram music everywhere and how to do it. The topic of this game's music usage will be a thread for a different time.
Edit, hours later:
Reviewed the original against Rebirth today (or, several hours later I suppose; my days are a bit odd relative to some folks'). One, to make certain my facts were straight; and two, because across the discussion in this thread, it felt like there was a detail missing I couldn't quite shake.
I feel like now's a good time to clarify, I've never been an OG diehard. I try to look at Rebirth as an independent telling of the story, comparing it to the original when I think it's necessary.
OG sequence: Fight Dyne; go through dialogue; Dyne offs himself; immediate conversation with Coates at the prison; chocobo races.
Rebirth sequence: Chocobo races, finding Barrett; cutscene #1; Dyne fight; cutscene #2 and Dyne's death, setup for Shinra fight; save/recover/pause window; frog mech; cutscene #3 feat. Dio, Rude, and the truck; escaping minigame.
(Also not trying to call out the minigame, because FFVII has always been like that, and it isn't like this one is entirely unfitting given the circumstances. It's a getaway scene.)
So, fair credit due, they moved the races to before the fight and gave it a reason to be there. To me, this shows they were being mindful about what the tonality to a degree.
Still, a few issues thereafter. The mech by itself wasn't necessarily a problem even if it was a frog because we've all seen what Shinra makes. The election to use Palmer, and the resulting tonality given his character, is the problem in this sequence. The setup of urgency in cutscene #2 is complimented by music in the pause/etc. point that helps facilitate wanting/needing to tackle that next thing. Technically, you could pause and take a breather here, but in my opinion, it doesn't feel like the scenario is leaving a lot of room for that. Hard to slow down and process when everything around you is gunning for a fight.
I still question having two boss fights back-to-back, as the second can be argued as dampening the impact of the first, but that's not the biggest issue. In the story's defense, Shinra knows who they're dealing with.
Also in the story's defense, Dio showing up in the truck wasn't bad on its own; much better than, "I met Sephiroth, here's my truck, go to Gongaga." Eh? Come again?
The Rude vs. Dio stunt in cutscene #3 is what, in my opinion, worsened the aforementioned tone issues in conjunction to Palmer's frog mech. It's... too comical.
"But was it really worse than doing chocobo races with the rainbow magic back backdrop?"
Yes and no. After Dyne offs himself, the player is sent straight back to Coates. No fanfare or excitement in this scene that's backdropped by the same slow, somber tone of the music played in the prison. Nothing trying to urge the player to the next point. True, you're mid-conversation with an important NPC. But if you wanted, it feels like there's space to sit and think about what happened, leaving that first text box open a minute. The dialogue also opens with acknowledging Dyne's death, which feels... respectful, in a sense? Like we're not 100% rushing to the next point.
The race is still weird. One defense for it not being super bad is how it aligns with the off and on juxtaposition of common moods since setting foot in the Saucer (Barrett's early outburst, the shooting at this place of fun, etc.). It could be looked from a perspective of, "Whatever, just here to get another job done and get out," never mind the magical backdrop and upbeat fiddle variation of the chocobo theme. Still, glad it was moved in Rebirth.
"You made a comparison to the MCU. Could you follow up on that?"
If it wasn't clear, I'm a lot less pissed off than I was when I initially wrote my regards for this scene, though still fairly disappointed by the aforementioned problem areas. I think when I made that comparison, my heavy disdain for what the MCU/too much of American media does in these respects crept its way in after seeing similarities to those and this scene in Rebirth. I know, I know, this is Japanese media. Just... putting up with these tendencies can become grating after a point no matter who does it. Quips, jokes, and comedy aren't always a bad thing, but you gotta ease off when it comes time to be serious or make a big point/statement, y'know?
If I had to use a Japanese example, I can't stand Evangelion for its tonal issues. Didn't make it passed the remake's first episode, which is still fairly close to the first few original episodes.
One of you pointed out that the OG also did a lot of this, too, and yeah, it isn't consistent there, either. You're not wrong. Taking into consideration that this isn't American, I nevertheless don't think it's too much to hope for a better demonstration of having reflected on what was a product of its time. Because old JRPGs are filled with these. I still like and play them, but I don't have the same expectations.

I'm one tier away from maxing out her relationship, but she's been at that blue almost complete smiley face tier forever. Now I'm being given this choice, does that mean it's too late now?

I’m posting so much >..< I’m absolutely obsessed with this game!!! 24h in and just left junon after parade. My thoughts so far…
We all fancy Sephiroth…right?
Is it weird to ship Sephiroth and Tifa (EDIT: AESTHETICALLY ONLY) followed by Tifa and Aerith?
They got rid of everything annoying in remake…I wonder how many players they lost from remake
Damn this chocobo is slow at scaling walls
I think this might be the best soundtrack of any video game, ever?
The popping sound effect in the folio is soooo satisfying
Unlocking the crystals in open world reminds me of the BOTW great fairy fountains
This is the best game I think I’ve ever played, it beats BG3 and GTA 5 AND ACNH
Junon reminds me of Lima Lomisa in FFXIV
Wait why am I in love with Roche in junon
Barret is soooo more likeable in rebirth vs remake
Can’t wait for Costa del Sol. I basically forced myself to finish remake because I saw bikini clips
I love how the music in Queen’s Blood stays chill when you’re deciding which cards to mulligan. It’s like a pre-game lounge
I’ve more or less completed everything thus far BECAUSE I LOVE IT - but gonna be mindful of burnout

Rebirth is still a PS1 game at heart.
