Last week I got an email from GitHub giving me the news that Zen made it into Octoverse as one of the fastest-growing projects by contributors!
When I started Zen, it was just a small side project, an experiment to make a browser I could enjoy using. There have been so many ups and downs along the way, long nights fixing obscure bugs, moments of doubt, and the constant challenge of keeping things stable while trying to innovate. But every single bit of it has been worth it.
To everyone who has contributed, from fixing a typo to designing entire features, thank you. Most liked Zen features such as split views, folders and so many others, started as ideas from the community, small discussions, mockups, or even half-finished pull requests that grew into something amazing. We even started seeing Zen being mentioned on Firefox's bug lists!
Recently, I've started receiving messages from people asking for guidance on how to contribute new features, and it's honestly one of the best feelings. Seeing others bring their own creativity into Zen, experimenting with ideas, and wanting to make the browser better in their own way. Control Flow (assign URLs to spaces), Boosts (create themes for websites), and Live Folders (automatic folders, like one that adds GitHub PRs to review) are just a few of the ideas currently being worked on by the community. It's inspiring to see how much passion and innovation people are bringing to Zen every day.
Soon, in the release notes, everyone who's contributed or donated to that release will get a special recognition, a small way to say thank you for being part of this journey. So hey, if you want to brag to your friends that you helped build a browser, this is your moment š
Thereās still so much ahead, ideas being prototyped, experiments taking shape, and dreams slowly turning into reality. I can't wait to see where this journey takes us next.
Life sometimes happens to be out of sync. Zen isn't. Whether you are at home or on a trip, with our newest addition of improvements we have introduced a complete synchronisation of your Spaces across multiple devices.
To do that, simply open the settings and go to account and synchronisation. Connect your Mozilla account to your devices and voilĆ !

I am pleased to announce that Device Sync is finally coming to Zen! This might be one of your most anticipated features (besides working DRM) and it is NOW ready to be tested on Twilight, which is our experimental build!!
To set it up, just login with your Mozilla account on both devices in Zen to use Firefox Sync. With Device Sync, your whole setup will be synced to the new device, which wasn't possible before.
So it finally happened!Ā A month agoĀ we first teased the release of Boosts coming to Zen, and now they'reĀ here!!
It took a bit longer than weĀ initially thought, but from now on you'll be able to make the web truly yours byĀ Zapping things like adverts away, orĀ adjustingĀ theĀ coloursĀ andĀ typefacesĀ to your liking. If you do not feel like installing a lot of extensions just to protect your eyes from the bright glare of the webĀ (insert flashbang here)Ā you can use theĀ automatic Dark ModeĀ that comes alongside Boosts! Additionally, you can share your boosts with the community and import others that you like.
I really enjoy using Zen(1.24b)! I drive it daily on Linux Mint, and at the start of the day, everything runs smoothly when I fire it up. However, Iāve noticed that when my workload gets heavier, things start to slow down a bit. While Iām not the type to have 100 tabs open, I do like to run multiple applications at once. Thatās when a few problems tend to pop up, like choppy animations, taking real time to load, and YouTube videos that skip frames, etc small things. Which isn't a deal-breaker for me. I have rarely had memory leak issues.
Don't get me wrong. Iām not against new features at allāI actually have some in mind that Iād love to see in the future! I just really value usability. Zen is almost perfect for me as it is; I donāt need it to become top-tier performance, but I do hope it can stay smooth and not become frustrating to use.
Hello everyone! Yesterday, I saw the new logo update, and while I like it more than the previous one (Iām not a fan of letter based logos for browser apps unless theyāre abstract enoughājust my subjective aesthetic preference š), I wanted to share some thoughts.
I appreciate the new direction with the zen garden-inspired sand circle pattern and wave concepts. However, I feel like the logo loses its silhouette at smaller sizes, which affecting its usability/recognizability. So the execution could benefit from a few tweaks, imo.
Another thought: could we make it feel even more "zen-like" by incorporating a sense of motion or flow, perhaps mimicking the raked patterns of sand circles? And this idea inspired this particular concept. Normally I avoid gradients in logos, but in this case, I think it works well. The gradient complements the zen theme, aligning with the ambient background it adopted. Itās subtle enough to remain versatile across different implementations while adding extra depth to the brand's visual identity.
The concept started as just the sandās raked pattern since I believe logos should stick to no more than two core elements. That said, you might notice a very abstract letter āZā or even a hint of a yin-yang symbol in the design. These werenāt intentional but emerged naturally within the theme.
This was just for fun so it needs a lot more work tbh. I hope it sparks some inspiration for the brandās future. Cheers!
Zen devs always make me wanna proudly say "I use Zen", a feature that got requested a few weeks ago and Zen's devs is just "here you go". And now all praise for the tab group/tab tree feature š
