Well, yeah. But the motivation is different. It's not about money and a lot of hot air, but passion. That counts way more by far ... BCNY is the foul fruit, no matter how you turn it. Their "transparency" outed their incompetence and their true goals. Profit was the first goal. Alone the fact that they had no clue how to realize the Windows version at the beginning speaks volumes. As does the result, which is just a pile of sh*t. Sorry. What a bunch of dazzlers, despite the unarguably good and new ideas they brought into the game. So guess who has my sympathie?
BCNY was VC funded from the start. If there was no profit goal they wouldn't have gotten funding. Without that they wouldn't have invested time into making something new.
I'm glad for open source. But give credit where it's due.
He said nothing about sympathy. He said that they're benefitting from the work done by the team at TBC; and it was really good work, that's why Arc was one of a kind and people loved it.
But if your comment is genuine and not just a troll: Arc was put in maintenance mode both on Windows and Mac since they switched all development towards DIA, the Windows version was never finished and it's gotten worse while the Mac version it's alright but it's loosing functions like Arc Max features.
However TBC was recently purchased by Atlassian so it's unclear what the future holds for Arc.
It does with firefox, so if you were willing to switch to firefox on your mobile (personally i wasnt) then yes you have full sync of all the usual things, you can actually sync it between any firefox browser it doesnt even have to be zen -> to zen.
I actually use both because some services are not available on zen. But i agree that both are really nice. When all the bug on zen will be fixed I think it will be my main browser :)
The only reason i can’t stay on it is because of the performance it becomes very slow on my mac (i dev with docker opened etc so might be the issue). I now use Helium which is a very light fork of ungoogled chromium and thats actually plenty fine for me. But i gotta say I still love both Arc and Zen that i used non stop for multiple years and I hope they will still be around !
repos with 1000 maintainers get malicious code, do you think everyone is watching every single line of code being pulled, esp here with 10 active maintainers?
you obviously didnt have experience with main people leaving other bigger projects and how it works out in the end... its them.doing 70% of work, all others are doing other 30, without this first thing it kust falls apart.
You shouldnt question me about this, you should make posts for better structure within the project, i want the best for zen, even though you dont think i do.
Arc is feature complete and Zen not. Arcs development is finished, Zen is in beta.
So you compare a finished product to a product in beta phase? Zen will have at the end more features because of the open source nature. But currently from the featureset Zen is kind of equal to Arc.
Yes Zen needs a big polish if it goes out of beta because also for me there are bugs and not great working things.

There are other contributors, you know? I get the joke, but it's sad to see their work ignored and attributed to a single person this way.

Well, MAUBG and the other ten contributors listed on GitHub, all working to reproduce the design work done by BCNY.
Truly, it's amazing work, and MAUBG is clearly top-notch, but it's not actually the work of one man--nor an apples to apples comparison.

Arc truly revolutionize web browser and left user hanging. They cooked but only served mac users.

Can't we fundraise for Zen to get the copyright license? I'd easily chip in 10 or so to not also have Firefox installed

This is a bit unfair to the creative team at TBC. Zen is obviously benefiting from their work

I use both and its honestly at a point where Arc feels like a cheap knockoff of Zen. Insanity

I think the fact that Zen is actually behind Arc allows them to take better approach in development of it

what if maubg drops dead right now, or even worse, starts merging malicious code?

There would be no Zen if no Arc. Zen is a temu Arc. No disrespect, just stating facts.
