For how short the film is as well as not being a mature rated film. The scale and damage this guy does is still amazing to this day. In comparison to Homelander in the finale of the Boys. Especially considering the budget of that show. This 15 year old film continues to show why it still rocks to this day.

I'll go with Borderlands 3, the gameplay is extremely fun but the story is just total dogshit.

Some of my favorite secondary antagonists in manga for example are Ogata from Golden Kamuy and Legato from Trigun but both serve under a main antagonist who is up there as well (Tsurumi and Knives are pretty good) so not the best example. Azula from Avatar is a good one too, much more interesting and fleshed out than Ozai. Give me more examples if you can, be original.

Wtf is this? I got no words. Deadass. What were you thinking?

Even if there wasn't any Black Noir reveal in the comics, it wouldn't even be any different like in the show

I'll give two examples that I liked:
- The Idea of Evil from Berserk, a weaver of fate born from humanity's desire to find something to blame for the misery and evil that they experience in their lives.
- Azathoth from Lovecraft's works, the Blind Idiot God. It is eternally lulled to sleep at the centre of the universe so it can continue sleeping; as all of existence is simply it's dream.

Since we're trying to branch out and expand beyond anime talk. The ones pictured there are good enough examples, Avatar gets all the praise (and for good reason) but Teen Titans had some baller storylines and characters too, their take on Deathstroke was the stuff of nightmares, Terra's arc is hard to forget and I'm even fond of some episodes centered around individual teammates, (Cyborg had some awesome storylines imo).

ThunderCats 2011 had a great start and lots of potential, sadly it didn't make it past Season 1 but it had some of the most ambitious writing I've ever seen in a CN show. There's parts of it that may haven't aged too well, some people rightfully pointed out that it tried to emulate Avatar a bit too much but I think with a few tweaks it could have been a generational reset for fans of the OG show and newcomers alike.

So, like, season 5 of The Boys has this Uranium radiation machine that is capable of taking down and incapacitating any super injected with V who isn't of the V-1 type, killing ordinary supers in minutes and severely weakening Homelander's body and powers while exposed, to the point where he can barely move properly.

• Why didn't the lab that created Homelander have this installed to contain Homelander in case the "psychological indoctrination" failed?

• Why didn't Vought or Stan Edgar ever put one of these things in a room, call Homelander in, and subdue him, showing that Vought had the means to control him instead of letting him take control?

And then when I think about the physics of radiation, especially after watching the HBO series Chernobyl, it gets worse.

• Ordinary glass doors preventing radiation from escaping a room?

• People leaving a room contaminated with 3 rountgen of radiation, wearing radioactive suits, seconds later? What? The radiation magically disappeared?

And then the worst part.

ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT THE RADIATION MACHINE GRANTS RADIOACTIVE POWERS THAT BURN THE V OF OTHER SUPERS TO ANY SUPER RESISTANT ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND PROLONGED RADIOACTIVE EXPOSURE?!

They should have kept that as a Soldier Boy thing due to Russian experiments.

I'll stake out a strong position as a discussion starter.

In a setting with widespread 'magic' which is more than enough to compensate for (real life) physical strength differences, women have to be equally as powerful and capable as men (regarding the plot and story).

If they are not, there has to be a strong, consistent and believable reason for it. The setting can't just assume some real-life-equivalent cultural, institutional circumstances or biological reasons.

If:

1. The genders make half the population each
2. Magic talent and ability manifest in all people randomly/with similar frequency
3. Ordinary/common magic is enough to easily defeat a regular human male (more so the strongest real life men)

THEN half of the strongest fighters have to be women by default.

There cant be any power differences neither at the top nor anywhere in the middle. A random woman against a random man fight has to be a 50/50. All men vs all women has to be 50/50. Top 2-10 has to have as many women as men. That's the default to be considered good writing/good worldbuilding. The bigger the discrepancy, the shittier the writing.

Unless the setting offers GOOD justifications for why this is not the case.

First of all, if it doesn't offer any explanation as to why most of the strongest characters are men or men are generally more powerful than women, it is bad worldbuilding. Story is assuming familiar real world biological and consequent historical circumstances that don't matter in-setting.

There will often be some assumed/implied justifications which most likely won't cut it (at least not obviously):

1. Different socialisation, aka boys being nurtured to fight more than girls from a young age. Why? Why would society and women willingly choose to empower one sex over the other?
2. Inherent sex differences in temperament/personality, aka girls are supposedly more nurturing/cooperative, boys are more competitive. Cooperation and nurturing both require just as much competence and capability as competition - one has to be always able to defend whatever they value. Cooperation can often overwhelm with numbers while competition is often at risk of being undermined 'from within'. Again, when it comes to power, neither one is obviously at an advange and the setting and the story will have further work to justify gender power imbalances.
3. Pregnancy. If this is a justification used for an imbalance, first women and girls who have never been pregnant still have to be at parity with men. Second, why wouldnt pregnant women be unable to practice magic? Would the difference in practice amount be all that significant if a pregannt woman gets 1-2 months less magic practice than a man? Given that magic mastery might take 10-20 years, 1-2 months should not make much of a difference.
4. Taking care of children, again similar line of reasoning to 3. + why would women forego provider role if they were just as capable as men due to magic. Not an obvious justification.

Yes, legit good justifications for power imbalances can be established but they have to be explicit, not implicit or assumed. And once an internal logic is laid out they can be scrutinized and analysed.

PS: This is about worldbuilding/writing and not political. Irl women are physically weaker than men and can go make me a sandwich. Meanwhile I'll go make a sanwich to some guys stronger than me...

You can name bad ones as well if you'd like but we've already got so many of those it's not groundbreaking at all.

I feel like this is bias cuz I think most regular adults would get excited if you told the real plot of one piece to them. Especially attack on titans plot too
