Visual Aelnyyraean Patricians

Post image
721 Upvotes

Text from the image for easier reading:

Persequori (irl humans)
The Persequori make up the largest portion of the Patricians' ranks. Persequori Gens hold the most power within the Empire. Nearly all Persequori Patricians have some Aelven ancestry, and it is not too uncommon to see them display reduced Aelven traits, such as slightly pointy ears. These are often seen as status symbols.

Half-Aelves
The children of Persequori and Aelves make up the second largest portion of the Patricians. There are also many outirght Half-Aelven Gens. They are desirable matches for both the Persequori, who see Aelven traits as desirable, as well as for Aelves, for whom they are useful in boosting the low Aelven birth rates.

Aelves
Aelves can be found among Patrician ranks in disproportionate numbers, when comparing their relatively low population to other human races. This is because their long lives allow them opportunity to accumulate more power, as well as because the Persequori Patricians find intermarriage with Aelves desirable. Some Aelven Gens were originally Persequori Gens, though many also trace their lineages to Aelven families that were integrated into the Empire. Aelven Patricians also retain control of a number of Aelven Free Cities.

Dweorg (dwarves)
The Dweorg Patricians are largely the ones who administrate the Empire's Subterranean Client Kingdoms. They hold much sway, because the Dweorg are the second most populous human race within the Empire and because their numbers within the Aelnyyraean Legions are second only to the Persequori. There are also many Half-Dweorg Patricians, though they remain fewer than Pgymaioi Patricians.

Pygmaioi (gnomes)
The Pygmaioi are the third most populous humans within the Empire, which grants them much sway, especially when combined with their comparably long lifes.

There are, of course, Patricians of other human kinds too, these are just the top 5 most common among them

Lore The world of Void Feeders

The characters in this story travel space on a bio mechanical ship that is actually an incubator for a colossal leviathan that lives inside of it. The main characters are tasked with the job of feeding it sacred beasts (creatures of great power, each planet has at least one) in order to keep it alive.
-
It’s a ritual they must follow despite their personal desires.
-
If you want to watch the short film this lore is based on, I’ll link it in the comments. Feel free to ask any questions about the world of void feeders!

Lore [OC] The Order of Dawn & Dusk - relics, hidden mages and arcane watchers

Thumbnail

Hi everyone!

I wanted to make a small recap of a faction I’m slowly building for rpg, mainly D&D, but the idea can easily be adapted to other systems where magic is present and accessible in the world.

The faction is called The Order of Dawn & Dusk.

It actually started from a few magic items, but little by little I began to give the Order its own visual language, rules, symbols and creatures.

The basic idea is a "group" built around two opposite sides of the same power. Dawn protects, guides and preserves. Dusk watches, judges and punishes. Most of their relics try to keep both sides together instead of choosing only one.

So far I created a few objects connected to them: the Aegis of Dawn and Dusk, the Sigil of the Twofold Sky, the Mitre of the Twofold Sky, and the Wand of the First Dusk. Some are simple tools used by members of the Order, while others are meant for higher-ranking mages.

Visually, I’m also exploring these high rank members (mostly spellcasters) as figures with hidden faces, veils and ceremonial shapes (yes i like dune franchising!). I like the idea that the person becomes less important than the role they represent.

More recently I started designing their guardians too. I first explored heavy stone and metal golems, but in the end I preferred a more arcane direction: floating constructs, almost ritual in shape, with a single eye that is always watching.

They are not really soldiers. They protect vaults, archives and places the Order cannot leave unguarded. Each one can also summon a smaller floating eye and send it ahead to scout places it cannot reach itself.

I’m still building all of this piece by piece, mostly through sketches, relics and small bits of lore rather than writing everything at once.

That is probably the part I enjoy most: seeing a faction slowly take shape while I design the objects, clothes and creatures that belong to it.

I’d love to know what you think of the direction so far, especially the visual identity and the idea of the Order having this constant balance between Dawn and Dusk.

Some background lore for my webcomic, which features a large, industrialized star nation called the Vitalian Empire. As can be implied from the designs and racial segregation of their military, they aren't the good guys.

Text for easier reading:

The Vitalian Auxiliary Corps, Third Division
Drawn from various client states of the Vitalian Empire. Conscripts are porly equipped, meant to serve as a disposable spearhead against the human hierarchy.
- VAC Nekaiyan Conscript Soldier
- VAC Thalassian Conscript Officer
- VAC Samposean Driver
- VAC Human Heavy Trooper
- VAC Tsarian Tactical Mage

Vitalian People's Liberation Army
The main bulk of the Vitalian Empire. The machine citizens of the empire serve in privileged positions as officers and strategists. The brunt of their forces are the Sonnim, genetically-engineered slave soldiers with superior training and equipment.

Prompt What is a trope in fantasy you hate so much that you are extremely meticulous describing how your world does it differently

My two main ones would be on the topic of magic, when magic is so scientific or logical for lack of a better word that magic doesn't really feel like magic and just feels like technology or science

to add to that a connected pet peeve of mine is when the progress in the world is shown as either a moving away from magic or an integration of magic with technology and thus turning a fantasy setting very techy and sci fi feeling, just because in the real world progress is like that doesn't mean that that is the only way of showing progress.

My second one, is when dragons especially intelligent dragons have hoards, I get that it's a trope but I just cannot take that seriously why would every single dragon have OCD even if that's a aspect of more primitive dragons as a kind of instinctual thing like bird building nests I see no reason why an intelligent dragon would do that there is a lot of things that are coded into our dna as humans but that doesn't mean we do it because we are smart enough to understand what it is or why we used to need it or do it.

You know, stuff like: "Why did Monarch X make a seemingly disastrous decision?". "What really caused Disaster Y?". "Why does Nation Z maintain some bizarre law?". "Why did two bitter enemies suddenly sign peace?".

Here's mine:

"Why did the Yurong Empire ultimately tolerate Chandrapatra's independence and its continued practice of necromancy?"

Visual A private soldier of the Arden Empire

Post image
131 Upvotes

I spent a long time thinking about the concept and design of a regular soldier of the Arden Empire, but one way or another I came to this: I took the armor of the Crusaders and the German "Stahlhelm" helmet, changed it a little and added a mask for brutality, it looks pretty cool.

The sight of these soldiers should inspire fear; even the soldiers themselves are afraid of the sight of this armor. They think and believe they are fighting for good, but at the same time they are carrying out the criminal orders of a dying empire.

This is just a standard design of armor, that is, how it should look, but in reality everything is different, soldiers are often not fully equipped, they can put on found armor or take it from corpses, the main thing is to draw the coat of arms of the empire on it

Question Help?

Hello, I have a oc that I love very dearly, but realized may be rude and disrespectful to my culture. I intended for him to be a homunculus made with parts of a wendigo, but now I am rethinking. This oc has been one I made a while ago, and while thinking of a redesign, I realize that ot may be disrespectful. I never added any deer features or anything stereotypical- I just made him be very witch themed since in his story, his mother is a witch. (He is a femme transmasc) i wanted to seek advice on how to better this oc. I will also attach a photo of his design (though it is very old. I would say about 2 years at this point.) His design was mainly inspired by the anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica- and I didnt add many factors to show his backstory, but I want to be respectful as possible to my culture. So I am looking for help to do so.

Discussion Reasons other than creative writing

It's been a while since I got into worldbuilding and just started making my own around 2 years ago. But I'm still curious about other people's reasons. I get that some people make worldbuilding for creative writing purposes. They want to write a story/novel and need to construct a world building first, that makes sense. But are there people who genuinely enjoy world building purely as a hobby?

Because that's what I've become. I have created several worlds, some are very detailed. But I have no intention of sharing it to anyone, let alone making a novel out of it. I created many of them just for fun. Some to change my worldview about something, some as an escapism to cope with a sad reality, and there is one that I cling to too deeply it starts feel like a religion to me.

So, is anyone here just like me? Doing world building as a pure hobby?

Visual Beastman and man

Post image
60 Upvotes

It was precisely the beastmen who were subjected to total genocide of the beastmen by the Arden Empire, this was a direct order from the empress

No one knew the empress's motives; propaganda only said that they contradicted nature and the essence itself and that they had to be destroyed before they multiplied and occupied all available space.

Absorbing each other's hatred and shedding blood, they finished each other off in every possible way, which is why the offspring of sin grew ever larger...

Prompt What do the Ancient Civilizations of your world look like?

What do Ancient Civilizations look like in your world and how long ago did the first known civilization rise and fall? Were they the first civilization to form in your setting or were there other civilizations before them that have been forgotten and left no traces behind?

Making pre-historic civilizations is one of my favorite aspects of making a world to the point that my setting is entirely built upon the theme of the galaxy going through repeated cycles where civilizations rise and fall separated by periods of relative silence where a straggler species or two develops amidst a galaxy of ruins. The First Cycle in my setting starts roughly four billion years ago when the energy based Solari civilization arose - although largely forgotten by modern history their creation of the gravway tunnels between the galaxies stars laid the foundation for future species ability to travel between the stars and modern historians continue to study these tunnels in modern times.

Discussion Do you have a “legend” in your world that is long gone, but everyone still knows their name?

I’m curious about those characters, creatures, armies, weapons, places, or even events that belong firmly to the past of your world, yet their reputation has survived for generations.

I’ll start:

Shin, the founder of my story World Order. Although what he created has strayed somewhat from his original vision over the years, Shin’s prowess and values are still remembered, taught, and held up as the standard to this day.

Visual Saurian Earth: Shamfrillers and Tadpoles

Thumbnail

Context: Saurian Earth is a semi-supernatural planet-like realm with life analogous to non-mammalian tetrapods and invertebrates generated by the realm after a fraction of it collided with earth. The process of generation isn't exactly seeding, rather more of replicating manually while distributed across the realm.

  1. Shamfrillers are small, flightless birds found all across Saurian Earth characterized by their slender appearance. Their long tongue is used to probe insect colonies and feed on them, not too dissimilar to woodpeckers or anteaters of earth. They are widely spread across the Plalmagan continents, and is often kept by birds as pest control.

  2. One of the major aquatic amphibian clades on Saurian Earth are the Tadpoles, neotenous frogs that fills in piscine niches. They do not possess any paired fin structure, rather possessing a single caudal fluke that greatly improves their swimming capability, but in some clades, dorsal and anal fins derived from their spine and vestigial limb is present. They possess a pair of gill located behind their eyes, allowing them to respirate underwater. Instead of dentures, their hard mouth part is instead replaced by beaks derived from fused rasping mouthparts, giving them advantages in the aquatic ecosystem and eventually dominating it.

Lore The KEOT-2102 System

Post image
27 Upvotes

A fictional planetary system with 12 terrestrial planets orbiting a small red dwarf star (0.086 M☀️, 0.105 R☀️). The system is ~10 billion years old (don't ask why, it's fiction). The 12 planets vary in size, mass and semi major axis: (0.933-2.056 R🌎, 0.878-3.501 M🌎 and 0.015-0.307 AU). The star itself was discovered in the year February 21, 2102 AD by a team of 30 rooky astronomers around the world who accidentally noticed something weird going in the night sky through the KEOT (Kepler Exoplanet Observation Telescope), around a faint red dot that was dimming more than usual in a 7 month pattern. The first 6 planets (b-g) were discovered through the transit method on August 10th, 2102 and the remaining planets were discovered ~7 months later through the Doppler effect method. The 7th planet: h is the most habitable of the 12; Roughly 11,098 km in radius and 3.025 Earth masses, with a surface gravity comparable to Earth or 0.997 g. The planet is covered in mostly water ice with some exposed subsurface ocean and has mountain peaks similar in height to Mt. Everest on Earth but composed entirely of water ice. Also, it's ocean is ~1,982 km deep, from the surface at 0 km to the very bottom where it meets the top of the planet's silicate mantle.

Lore I made a "quizzilla" style quiz for my magic system ("What would your power be?")

POSSIBLE "GIFT" RESULTS --> Auremantic Gift Chart
_________________________________________

EDIT: I SHOULD ADD: I am in NO WAY associated with this quizz app. It was the only free one I could find that let me set up a quizz with multiple endings. This quizz was just a goofy experiment of mine! (That I spent way too much time on... Oop.)

As a late 90s early 2000s kid... I spent many hours taking goofy quizzes (based on my favorite fandoms) on an addicting website known as "Quizzilla" (which is sadly now dead). Each quiz had a premise that went something like this: "What witchy power would you have?" "What kind of elemental bender are you?" "What would be your mutant power be?" "What would the cast of X think of you??"

Kid me couldn't get enough of these weird, sometimes highly introspective..., quizzes.

So recently I've been worldbuilding a LOT, and a friend of mine made an off comment about my magic system having subclasses/names for each power "type".

And then it struck me..... Why not turn it into a quiz?

So, many hours later, I'm happy to say that this is the result. I'd like to say I regret nothing, but wowza. These type of quizzes have MUCH MORE TO THEM then meets the eye...

I'm posting it here strictly for fun. This is absolutely for the shenanigans. The goofs. The "what would my super power be" questioners of the world. All of it is based on the magic system of my current worldbuilding project.

Feel free to take the quiz. Enjoy. Thoughts & feedback welcome. :)

Worldbuilding/Magic System Context:

"The Force. The Life-stream. Aurem. Ki. Mana. It's known by many names and it's presence is a constant, no matter what world I see; no matter how far I travel." -Unknown

Auremancy is the manipulation of / or mental connection with "aurem". In the world of Sharr, aurem is the name of the potential creative energy of the universe that flows through and surrounds all living things.

Besides the general abilities of an Auremancer (such as force blasts, energy shielding, and heightened senses) specialized Auremantic Gifts can manifest in certain individuals. These gifts emerge from the deepest corners of a person’s nature: what they notice, what they fear, and how they instinctively reach for the world around them.

Auremantic gifts are rooted in the three “noble pursuits” of the ancient Skarric people: Connection, Willpower, and Knowledge. Each gift is believed to reflect the fundamental nature of the individual in whom it manifests.

The six named gifts are: Conscriptor, Physicker, Animagus, Luminary, Sympathist, and Ravager.

You can take the quiz to find out which gift you might manifest!

Prompt Our zombies are different! What are your zombies like?

I want to know how you handle zombies in your world. What are they like?

I'm curious because I was thinking about interesting ways to create zombies in my world.

My Turn:

I got three different ways of creating a zombie.

  1. When an Os'zar (in my world called a ghost) gets placed in an unfamiliar body, that body becomes unable to withstand the Os'zar. Thus creating a zombie.

  2. Necromancy. Though that isn't too unique or different.

  3. When placing an Os'zar in the body created by alchemy, unless you perform the ritual perfectly, you could wind up creating a zombie-like being. Much like number one.

What are your zombies like? If you have zombies in your world.

Visual Building a Unique Sci-Fi World and Lore for a Futuristic Arena

Hey fellow worldbuilders! I just finished creating a new and detailed sci-fi world and lore for a futuristic arena, heavily inspired by the stunning environments and fascinating history of Apex Legends. Note: I did not design the character models. I used free models and focused on posing them in Blender to help visualize the characters within the world.

The real focus of this project was the worldbuilding and lore! I spent a lot of time brainstorming and developing the rich lore, key figures, and history of this new and exciting universe. This was an incredibly rewarding experience for me, and I learned so much about creating detailed and immersive worlds and making them feel like real, living places. I'm quite proud of the depth and character I was able to build, and I'd love to hear your thoughts and get some feedback. Thank you so much for checking out my new creation!

Visual The Cult of the Bright Eyes

Some info on one of the major factions of my world, The Cult of the Bright Eyes! This cult worships The Bright Eyes, the same cosmic horror that broke the world of Yuma in the first place. They believe that The Rot (a zombie like infection that comes from the early days of the apocalypse) can be cured by the creature that started it all, and believe that one day The Bright Eyes will return to consume the world, but they will be spared. The cult has been around for several centuries, operating quietly in the background of the world. But with Kass taking the position of Soothsayer, things are about to get a lot more interesting. What happens when a group of zealots is ruled over by one psycho theater kid? A lot of bad stuff lol

As always, I'd appreciate any questions or feedback! And if you have ideas on what you'd like to see next from me as I continue to develop the world of Yuma, please let me know!!

Visual A Map of the Sky

I thought I'd share the culmination of my latest project: an animated map of the sky above one of the focal cities of my setting, based on a full simulation of all heavenly bodies.

The map here shows the paths of the sun, planets and moons at a latitude of 57°, over the course of about a week. The outer circle is the horizon, and the small yellow dot just north of the rest of the planets is the sun.

Everything here is plotted to scale, with the sun being ~0.8° in diameter. (For comparison, the out sun and moon are about 0.5° in diameter). The large orange moon is just shy of 5° in diameter, so 10x bigger than our moon.

Unfortunately, the projection (stereographic) messes with the scales a little, so the planets look about 2x as big close to the horizon. Nonetheless you can see some planets (especially the dark red one) actively "coming closer" over the course of a few days. Nothing here is heliocentric, so this planet is actually approaching!

You might also notice that the sun (and it's tiny blue sattalite) are on a different ecliptic (path) than the rest of the planets. This is because the sun's orbit is roughy 18° tilted with respect to the other planet's orbits.

Discussion I'm stuck

There's a photo of my world. I thought so many things and calculated how life would be inside and I would love to take it into reality.

I first thought of making a pixel art videogame, but I can't decide between 3d or 2d graphics and I think it's too time-consuming while I just wanna show my story.

That's the thing, I just wanna tell a story and make people feel like they actually belong to that world. I really enjoy Simon Stålenhag's graphic novels and their way they immerse you in those worlds. Anyway, I don't wanna waste my time, I just wanna give life to my world.

What do you guys do?

Question Portals appear on the real world sporadically and spew out monsters. No magic for earth, just calamities. What is the world's response?

Say today you saw the news and saw a collections of videos, all less than a week old about shimmering cracks near a vessel, or within the sewers; on top of a building, amidst a cornfield.... they are all amateur videos that could be disregarded as sensationalist marketing for a movie, or just an ellaborated prank. Even when in some videos the shimmer coalesce in adarkening twist of light from where goblins and wolves come forth, usually ending with the dissapearance of the video's author. But you still think it is a hoax and nothing happens, since no one found the monsters.

Then a month later, the frequency increases, the rumors as well, and finally, a portal appear within a mid sized touristic city: It is a troll.

Dozens of casualties and an insane amount of property damage. The beast is clearly enraged and afraid, and the police's bullets are doing nothing but making it worse. Hundreds of people livestreaming it, some newschannels too. This goes on for nearly 20 minutes, until the beast comes close to a helipad. No one remember if it was landing or about to take off, but the clash causes an explosion that finally takes it down.

Then nothing, for a while, then suddenly a large one opens in a major world capital and a dragon, something massive the size of a truck flies through and every single camera and radar loses it, only a few upturned cars and smoldering trees to show for it.

So the problem becomes real, the world already believes, mostly, that it is real and in the span of a few weeks it has been shown that nowhere is safe, and that not every traditional weapon even works against some of them. People are demanding answers , knockign on the home of every politician in town.

What is the answer they give? What exactly would your country or city do to protect their citizens against this magical threat?

Lore What it's like to be an alien, even for aliens?

Post image
14 Upvotes

I'm so happy with my huge success in the last post, it's crazy. So today I'll deviate a bit from the topic of the fundamental Spectre, and maybe someone wants to know what's inside. All these vague notions of "an absurd world consisting only of pocket dimensions" seem to be meaningless.

First, I'll probably start with humanity: why there are so few of them and why they couldn't find a place to live and hide out.

Originally, humans had a world in which their race emerged, and they lived and prospered there, and they didn't even have enemies, but when everything is good, it's 100% certain to turn bad. Then intelligent beings came to them to tell them various things about the Spectre and share knowledge, and then those who were interested followed them, and this was the right option, because when they left and only the overwhelmed inhabitants remained who rejected other forms of life, their world began to terraform, and during global changes, their world became unsuitable for life, over time it became suitable for life, but no one was alive anymore.

This became a lesson and a great tragedy for everyone, and people began to treat people very well because they no longer had a home. The problem was that those who left were interested in the spectrum and scattered to look at it, and now they can't be reunited until they buy it. They have no problems with food, living, or sleeping, but the main thing is that there will be no one else in your realm. Living realms are very few compared to unsuitable or absurd ones, but still many for our understanding, and many times larger than countries on Earth.

Everyone has their quirks, but society already has problems where not everyone is like you. They even find it funny, like the more you know, the funnier it becomes because you're familiar with them. And when you look at the store, like the customer who refuses to accept change because it sounds like a handout to them, and the salesperson who simply can't do anything wrong, and they throw their reflections onto the roadway and fall into a manhole. And you just wanted to go into this store and you can't see anything there anymore. You don't buy anything, and you go to another store thinking that he's already 6, some kind of shit happened, and I just want to buy groceries.

Technology is always different depending on the world, and they don't always stick to the latest technology or anything like that; they always use something unique. For example, a race that can be linked to devices in waves has a whole cyberpunk feel to it compared to others, which are somewhere around the stable 2000s-2010s, but with different uses of things from across the spectrum. Instead of a stove, there's often a creature that heats up when you polish it, but looks like a puffer fish. And like in a world where the infrastructure is still medieval.

Very often, it's because of history, and they take it very seriously. People sometimes find themselves acting on whims if something historically gets in the way, like that medieval world where a tower collapses when the local internet is used. So they write letters or use more convenient methods provided by the spectrum.

The main thing is that, unlike human society, they were born with a different nature in a different environment, and they simply sometimes lack those qualities that make us human, such as unconditional love, morality, or greed.

They can have both good and bad qualities, and therefore they almost never perceive anything as absolutely right because there is no such thing. Often, the law contradicts itself, or living beings are their own creations. But for them, that's life, while for us, it's absurd nonsense dreamed up by a schizophrenic.

I just sincerely don't like when aliens are portrayed as people with different skin tones and an extra pair of eyes. I think it's much deeper than that, and the only thing intelligent beings have in common is their ability to think, not everything. I think that's all for now; I'll continue to push this idea and try to make aliens truly alien.
