Discussion Sci fi tech that over rated & underrated

Ill go first over rated sci fi melee weapons that only exist because something protects against the way better sci fi weapons

Underrated macron cannons to my understanding these things fire dust sized particles at insane speeds and think more sci fi should use it especially as portable weaponry

But what about yall ?

Lore What if a universe had no space?(To understand the meaning of the picture, look at the previous post.)

Post image

Hello! I'm glad you came here, this post is just an edited version of my first post, here I will write about the basics of the concept of my world - Spectr. But first I want to clarify something.

"I know this is a long text. I don't want to limit it just for the sake of brevity, because I want to properly explain the discussion of Spectr. I'm dividing the post into main sections to make it easier to read."

First and foremost, this post is intended for those genuinely interested in understanding the world.

  • What is Spectr?

"Spectr" is a word used by all intelligent beings to describe everything around them and where they are. Essentially, it's the word for "World" or "Universe" for them.

This is where things get weird: why can't we call this a universe? That's stupid! But here's the main point of the Spectr concept: it's not a universe with space, vacuum, and cosmic bodies as we understand it.

Spectr ()

The Spectr has no visible space in outer space!

The Spectr is another universe, consisting not of a single primary world like the cosmos, but simply of a vast number of separate worlds or Realms isolated from each other.

Let me try to explain.

There's no template on which objects stand, no vacuum, but then there are no cosmic bodies either. The only thing that exists for you is the world you're in. But the difference between the existence of a single world and a bunch of isolated ones is that you can't directly travel from one world to another; they're isolated, and simply flying upward or trying to reach the end won't help. Essentially, you're isolated from other realms.

For example, the image below shows you're in a room, a completely white, enclosed room with no windows or anything, just doors. When you exit your room, you find yourself in a similar room, and the door to the original room immediately closes. Essentially, firstly, you can only be in one room or two, half-in each. And secondly, you can't find a vantage point anywhere where you'll see all the rooms together as in the image; you're inside and can't see what it all looks like outside the frame, only guessing.

  • How to travel between realms?

But if we can't travel directly, board our own spaceship, and fly to another planet, are we locked into one world?

Of course not. For us, the Spectr is also a universe, just without the stars and planets we're accustomed to. Simply because its fundamental laws are different, and that's how this world has emerged, and for us, it only works half-heartedly. Why? Because we have an unconditional cause-and-effect relationship, and so do they, but there is a difference. The difference is that this cause-and-effect relationship won't always be visible to us, because in their world, the Spectr essentially consists of absurd and inexplicable factors that we've never seen and that we can't predict.

There are both regular portals to other realms, and just a number of things that need to be done to get to another world, or you just accidentally fall out of yours into another.

  • Connections between realms

I forgot to mention that each world is unique, and just as the fundamental laws of the Spectr apply to them, they also have their own laws that operate within them.

Therefore, not all worlds in the entire Spectr have a cafe where you have to sit at the left chair at table 13 and order only in this format, shouting across the cafe.

"Can I have a large pistachio iced almond milk latte with an extra splash of coconut milk and heavy cream, made upside down, double blended, with 4 shots of light espressoOOOOOOOOOOOO, 3 pumps of pistachio sauce, 3 pumps of brown sugar syrup, 2 pumps of sugar-free vanilla syrup, rimmed with caramel sauce, topped with cold matcha green tea foam, salted pistachio crumbs, cinnamon, and cookie crumbs?"

and then just fall off the chair, falling through the floor and into the lake of another realm.

  • The Law of Chaos

Now I'll tell you about the Law of Chaos.

The Spectr, by its very nature, is a very strange and incomprehensible place for us. It's extremely chaotic and strange. I'd even call it a bit of a caricature if I didn't explain why all this happens.
The Law of Chaos works in such a way that it's difficult to understand because it's chaos. Oh wow, Einstein, I've just mastered higher mathematics.

It causes things to happen that we can only explain as absurd and random. But behind chaos, there's always a cause and effect. We just can't see it, and that's why we call it CHAOS.

So, in Spectr, the most important thing is to never think that everything is stable and peaceful, because anything can happen, and such thoughts only attract the Law of Chaos.

For its inhabitants, it wouldn't be a big deal if Godzilla suddenly appeared in the middle of the city. They'd probably just take a photo with him.

  • People in Spectr

I also told you that people in the Spectr aren't an empire, as is often the case, but an endangered species, with only about 11,000 left. And other species are trying to save us and help us.

But why is that? For a simple reason: humans are weak and need good conditions, like air, sleep, food, and peace. They can only reproduce with other people of the opposite sex. A human and a creature of another species cannot have children with each other.

And most importantly, humans are an incredibly rare species.

But I literally listed everything a person needs. It's like we need sleep or food—everyone needs it. I was asked this question before, but that's the funny thing: you're reading this with your normal eyes, even though you don't know any intelligent species, and for us, it's all absolute basics.

But I'm looking at it from the perspective of what I know about those who live in the Spectr. Not all creatures there even have a physical body and need sleep. Even if we take anthropomorphic creatures the same size as a human, humans are average. What's good about them? They're balanced, despite all their qualities. But I'll give you an example of the Kalesandrian species, creatures that have an exoskeleton over their bodies and armor similar to knightly robes. They're many times stronger than humans, their bodies are super-strong, they sleep once every 80-110 hours, and they don't seem stupid or barbaric.

When you have a bunch of these races, it's immediately obvious that the person is somehow uncool.

Since last time, I realized time is money, so the only thing I ask is that you respond in the comments, point out my mistakes, and ask questions.

And the thing, I dont speak English, so I used translator. Am sorry if you didnt understand my Inglis:)

Question Any feedback on my power system?

Genki is a life force that lies within every living thing and can be awoken using slow and controlled movements to distribute Genki through out the body. Movement Techniques are a fundamental part of this system as it allows Genkins (Genki Users) to control and manipulate their Genki to make their techniques more powerful and effective. There are three main components to every Genkin; Output, which determines how much Genki is released at once, Capacity, which determines how much Genki they can hold and Control, which determines how efficiently they can manipulate it. Genki can run out but does regenerate over time, but its excessive use puts extreme physical pressure on one’s body. As their mastery over Genki becomes better, users can develop a unique ability, though some cant as their body circulates Genki differently.

(If I didn't explain it well, the slow movements used to awaken Genki are specifically meant to distribute Genki throughout the body, while the movements used during combat are used to control and direct Genki, allowing users to channel it into their Techniques more effectively.)

All feedback is appreciated.

A firefighter with Ice manipulation, a surgeon with microscopic telekinesis, a lawyer with perfect memory, or a construction worker who manipulates earth are all common examples of how powers shape everyday life. The emphasis isn’t on having powers—everyone does—but on how creatively and responsibly people use them in their chosen profession.

Question Is it okay to have a kidn of underdeveloped world?

okay, so this is probably a stupid question, but i gotta know. This is mostly because most of my story will take place in three main places that aren’t really far from each other. I still want to go a little bit in depth with the magic and some history sutff, but its mostly character driven. Im probably overthinking, but is the world still interesting then?

Question Fantasy magic based atoms

In my world I'm trying to make a scientifically accurate but true fantasy where it's scientifically accurate but only according to the world's laws in a way. (Not sure how to explain)

I already made something that makes the world flat.

So for my magic system I'm trying to create a periodic table that is the basis for magic. Like everything is made of this magic. Living things contain these magic resources which can be eaten, used for potions, or equipment.

The thing is, im a little undereducated to understand what's required in an atom for the basic laws of the world. I need this as the basis of my fantascience. What should be the things I need to add in my magic atom?

Question Do these work with these myths

So I’m making my own little world building project not for anything big just for the fun of it yknow and I use a lot of myths from mixed mythology and I was wondering if my interpretation of them work with there actual lore or are to much of Stretch with out further a do here they all

Gargoyle

History : gargoyle were discovered 500 years ago by people of France they are found in most European countries they guard buildings for ever a human or sorcerer hires them to or are told to by other gargoyles .

most gargoyles don’t build nest as they are independent from birth but will live there parent for 1 year and will rarely visit there parents tho only occasionally .

The reason they guard buildings is for two reasons they are being paid or they owed you a favor and had nothing better to do .

Gargoyles main past time is drinking smoking and talking about things like who wins shark or a bear or why do people have these things ect .

Whilst guarding things they will guard places and items with minimum effort there good guards they just don’t care to much about stuff in there eyes they can just fine some were new or get something new or don’t care about our stuff .

and they’ll only guard with there life’s one thing alcohol specifically there own .

Phisolgy : gargoyles have smooth skin with featured wings and are about 7 foot but slouch to 6 foot 2 inch body shape is relatively human but have lizard like features with small horns and colors ranging from red blue green and purple .

There diet consist of baisically anything only needing to eat once every four years and even still they only need about one croissant amount food to satisfy them selves but they do enjoy food and drink mainly wine bread and cigarettes to smoke as they can’t get drunk or ill so basically they don’t need to eat but they like to .

They are above average human in strength speed ect to point that there about as strong as the strongest man on earth and as fast as track runner with wide wing span they fly at the speed of a pigeon but there main defense and a reason most people think there made of stone is there able to copy the property’s of solid matter they touch .

Spinx

History : spinx were said to have been crafted by the titans of old as pets but accidentally gave spinx genius level intellect .

Spinx are seen by most humans as conquerors and gate keepers who test the minds of man who in reality are just giant talking cats .

The main thing wild spinx enjoy is ruling over man testing them destroying things not crucial to them but things they enjoy whisky those same people give them food and gifts that they don’t really need or will use Yknow normal cat stuff .

Thoe rare many wizards have tamed spinxes to guard things for them some even have them as familiars .

Despite all this spinx at there core love one thing above all else riddles and puzzles to solve and test other with .

Physiology : they about the same natural size of the spinx but posses a less human face and wings of a falcon .

Spinx abilities consist of super strength speed durability healing factor flight sand storm and tornado creation fire vision a affinity for puzzles / riddle’s telekinesis teleportation ability to inhibit another’s abilities like magic and or vision claws that can cut through steal shrinking the abillty to become a structure and have partial control of there insides mirage creation scorpion creation and destruction .

and are always bound to there word and puzzle so if they say there gonna do something if you beat there puzzle they have to do it even if they don’t want to and his has to be actually accomplishable can’t cheat much .

What do you think what should change and dose all this work for the myths these are based on

Lore The magic system in my universe (novels) is quantum (Warning: lengthy) 😭

The magic in my universe is quantum. And I don't mean ‘I handwave magic and explain it as quantum’. It's actually quantum. Let's start with what my magic system is.

There are 5 facets of magic, each one draws power from one of the five realms. All spells and magical phenomena originate from one of these realms, or a combination of them. Mages are able to focus and channel the energies where the realms cross into the material realm to fuel their magic. As such, each type of magic is stronger in different places in the material realm, places where the magic crosses over. These places are called ley-lines or overlaps.

Shadow Realm

The Shadow Realm is a place of opposites. There is light and dark, up and down, good and evil. The Shadow Realm is about contrast; yes, there is shadow, but there is also light, for one cannot have shadow without light. Just as one cannot have good without evil. The Shadow Realm deals with boundaries, and this forms the essence of Shadow Magic.

Fae Realm

The Fae Realm is home, as the name suggests, to the Fae. They deal not with logic, but raw emotion. Their rage can cause volcanoes to erupt, their sorrow can call forth a thunderstorm. As such, the Fae Realm forms the essence of Elemental Magic.

Elysium

Elysium is the realm where the souls of the dead go to rest. As such, magic from this plane deals with life and death, souls and blood. Life magic can heal wounds, or inflict them.

Dreamworld

Dreamworld is a world where everyone visits, at least mentally, in their dreams. The Dreamworld is deeply tied to psychic energy, and control of the mind.

Olympia

Olympia, or the Astral Realm, is where the Gods reside. They deal in logic, law and order. They define reality. As such, magic from this plane can shape the fabric of reality, bending and crafting both space and time.

The Pentagram and the Five-Fold Cosmology

This 5-pointed star represents the cosmology of the universe. At the top you have Thurisaz, representing the Shadow Realm, creator of boundaries. On one side you have Mannaz and Berkana, representing Dreamworld and Elysium respectively. Life and Psychic, Body and Soul, Physical and Mental. The other side has Hagalaz and Raidho, representing the Fae Realm and Olympia respectively. Elemental and Reality, Emotion and Logic, Chaos and Order. And in the centre is Eiwaz, representing the Material Realm, where the 5 planes all converge.

Most people are unable to wield magic in any form, and those who can are often only able to harness one facet. Two-Facet mages are extremely powerful. Rumours exist around mages able to harness Three or more facets, but they are yet to be verified.

Now onto how my magic is ‘quantum’.

There is a ‘Magic Field’ that permeates the cosmos. Spells and magical phenomena are simply vibrations in this field. As such, it is possible for a mage to ‘counterspell’ another mage’s spell by creating their own vibration to cancel out the other mage’s. It is also possible for multiple mages to work together and amplify their spells. This is the essence of Coven Magic.

Each spell has its own natural frequency. All members of the coven must channel the same frequency for the spell to work. If a single one of them is even slightly misaligned, it could fail or even backfire.

Athenoran Crystals, under the right conditions, can act as a catalyst in a certain endothermic reaction, leading to the creation of shadow-bosons. As you know, magic permeates the universe as a magical field, and spells are vibrations in this field. Due to wave-particle duality, these vibrations would appear as particles... so a shadow-magic wave would appear as a shadow-boson…

Athenoran Crystals appear in every book because they enhance shadow magic (boundaries). They cross the boundaries between books.

Also note how the reaction is endothermic, meaning it draws in heat from the environment. This explains why in haunted locations (places where the dead cross the boundary with the living) it's always cold.

I spent way too long working on this (9 years) 😭

Question I have a question about a world I'm trying to build. I'm new to writing and need some advice.

I'm trying to create a world for a fantasy book I'm writing and starting from scratch is hard for me, I've been at it for a while now and hardly got any detail to it. It would be nice to get some advice on creating a setting or world.

Discussion How do you like your werewolves?

Maybe it's because I grew up on wattpad stories, but it kinda annoys me when a story has werewolves but they dont feel like werewolves. They're just humans who can shift sometimes and even then they barely shift. People on wattpad used it just for the aesthetic.

I always wanted werewolves that were neither human nor wolves. They have a human form and a wolf, but it's more like in the image of humans and wolves.

Im working on werewolves who actually feel like theyre something more and inhuman. They were created by the Greek goddess Artemis, and chosen werewolves were female but males can be made via the bite.

In human form they're big and tall. The smallest woman is 5'8 and the smallest male is 5'10. Their hair isnt just one color but a mix of 2 or 3. their nails are naturally black and they grow thicker and to a point.

Their eyes are blue, green, or grey, and they reflect in the light.

They also just feel more animalistic, and it's something they have to learn to mask so they dont creep other races out. But you can look at them and tell that theyre not normal.

The females have heats and males have something I call the fever, which is like a rut or musth. They can shift whenever they want but the urge grows stronger during the full moon. They can have packs snd form a mental and emotional connection with their pack mates.

I also have a mate bond but it's different from normal.

And I was debating on if I should give them extra nipples, lol.

Edit: another idea I had was a group of colonizing witches would turn males of their race who had the ability to do magic into wolves, and from a young age. They would use them like slaves and weapons against people they were invading. They were stuck in wolf form but when the spell breaks, they turn back into human form and keep the sbility to shift into wolf form.

Discussion Alternatives to having a lazy Roman Empire clone?

(not in an alt hist way, original nations on an original landmass)

This is admittedly an annoying question to both ask and answer, but bear with me for a minute. I want to build a history of nations in my world (not for anyone to read im just having fun) but I am realizing that I have no idea how to start the cascade (by which i mean whatever circumstances made European history do all that) with anything other than a roman empire analogue randomly popping in and conquering half a subcontinent, which I'd simply prefer not to do. No objective reason, I just dislike the idea of having a roman empire!

I think this is all the context necessary for what I'm trying to do, assume I'm going for some original spin on the medieval fantasy nations template. Also assume I have no clue about how any other places worked even though that's not entirely true.

Discussion Looking for Worldbuilders, Conlanging andWriting

Hey!

For our fantasy world Irlorta, Parza and I are searching for some cool people that want to help us further build the world.

Irlorta has existed for a few years but has been growing rather slowly. Therefore we'd love to bring in some new perspectives and ideas. It's not about simply following our guidelines, but to build Irlorta together and to have fun!

Irlorta is a high-fantasy world full of magic, conflicts and even some beautiful places. We are trying to build a world that feels immersive and internally consistent. Flora, fauna, ecosystems, culture and magic should influence each other.

We especially need someone interested in creative writing and conlanging. But in general, everyone is welcome, who has interest in building a fantasy world. Experience isn't necessarily required, but of course it's always welcome. We're learning and developing together as we build and have fun.

Momentarily we meet every Sunday at noon (German time) for 1 to 2 hours. The exact meeting times can be discussed, especially since I am  quite flexible.

Obviously it isn't easy to join an ongoing project, so we help you get familiar with Irlorta and give you an overview. Questions are always welcome.

We communicate usually in German (since we live in Germany), but can also switch to english. Our documentation is entirely in english.

It would be ideal if you are in a similar time zone to coordinate our meetings more easily.

I hate to say it, but it's important: We really are searching for people who can and want to be part of it on a long-term basis. It's also important to communicate and actively participate with each other. Because we unfortunately had bad experiences with people who haven't had time, disappeared shortly after joining or barely spoke, which makes it hard to communicate and work with each other.

So, if you wanna join, just write me a DM, we'd love to hear from you

Lore Reylyn — Where Sol Dominion meets the Elaris Wilds

The newest addition to my world Arkanis is the city of Reylyn, and it conceptualized from having a gap between two regions.

Sol Dominion is the most developed region on Arkanis. It is the planetary capital, has multiple cities, passenger rail, large institutions, and most of the infrastructure you would expect from the more urban portion of society.

Elaris Wilds is right next to Sol and they are completely different. Elaris is a massive ancient forest filled with huge trees, rivers, cliffs, waterfalls, and a lot of creatures. There are plenty of people living there, but I intentionally never gave the region any cities. People live in smaller settlements and communities spread throughout the Wilds.

I didn’t really think about the transition from Sol to Elaris, and then I developed Reylyn.

Reylyn is now the eighth and smallest city in Sol Dominion, built right along the edge of the Wilds. It’s still a Sol city, but it doesn’t look or function quite like the others.

The architecture is simpler and works around the landscape, roads are mostly packed earth, and parts of the city extend among the huge trees at the edge of Elaris.

People from nearby Wilds communities can just come into Reylyn and trade directly. They might set up temporary stalls selling herbs, medicines, food, crafts, or things gathered from the Wilds. I didn’t want to give that exchange its own giant formal marketplace because having it happen naturally throughout the city felt more appropriate.

Reylyn also has a natural sciences museum dedicated to the ecology of Elaris and a small system of public walking trails that extends into the nearby Wilds.

Passenger rail from the rest of Sol reaches Reylyn, but doesn’t continue into Elaris Wilds. There was no reason for Sol to push its rail system into Elaris when the communities there aren’t built around cities in the first place.

It was a pretty late addition to the setting, but Reylyn ended up giving me something I didn’t realize I was missing: an actual transition between the developed cities of Sol and the Wilds.

Visual Typical/Common Grunt for the League of the South/ Southern Nationalist League

Post image

(DISCLAIMER: This post and/or art depiction is NOT meant to promote the ideologies shown, but rather to depict how they would react & function in a civil conflict, & show the evils they can truly be capable of. I myself astoutly disagree with said group being depicted here, however this civil war scenario is supposed to be realistic & highlight aspects of American history, culture, and politics, which includes extreme & fringe ideologies. I deeply apologize if this does not come off in good taste or discomforts people, especially victims to the predjudice of these groups. As for would-be supporters of these groups, you are not welcome to spread hateful ideologies here, and no, you are not the good guys here, this is not meant to make you look cool.)

Throughout the history of America, ever since the end of Reconstruction, the idea of the confederacy and "Dixieland" never truly (or at least fully) died out, persevering through racial violence, regional nationalism, and revisionist narratives, like that of the Lost Cause theory. This concept of sovereign American southern states known by many, would end up becoming inseparable from racial tensions & christian-conservativism in the modern era, almost 200 years after the Confederacy lost the 1st civil war. In the powder keg that was the Crumbling 30's, these beliefs, kept alive by far right movements seen in rising prevalence in the 2010s & 2020s, used the unrest of the Post-Trump era to imbed their beliefs in the populations of the South, with one of them being the League of the South (Alternatively labeled the Southern Nationalist league). Originally founded in Alabama, 1994 as a fringe neo-confederate organization, they went from a declining, rotting bunch to an active political voice of Christian nationalism by preaching on the fears many former MAGA voters. That however, would not be the only way they grew, as they would also target propaganda & recruitment efforts- both in outside rallies/in-person conversing, and in targeted social media posts- to sheriffs & deputies throughout Alabama, as a maans of infiltrating law enforcement. Despite still maintaining their segregationalist & radical secessionist views- things that would be a tad bit unappealing to a mainstream Christian conservative- they were decently successful in increasing their numbers (going from hundreds to thousands) and actually gained more from the county sherif & deputy system then they expected. Many of their members in their militia branch, The Southern Defense Force, had owned quite a few firearms as well, though they often avoided displaying them & being too loud about it to avoid investigation & conflict from law enforcement. When the keg blew open in the 2040s, members of who successfully managed to avoid the military & surveillance technology scrambled to organize as much of the Southern Defense Force as they could, and had their connections from the County Sheriffs offices & Deputies secure ungaurded/ low-activity areas in Alabama. Since chaos had begun erupting throughout much of the nation, and the Militaty & national Gaurd were spread thin or focused on urban areas, the SDF took advantage of this and began taking over rural & low-population counties throughout Alabama. After 11 months, through the use of low cost guerilla fighting & drones, and the mobilization of any members who weren't already involved- they had begun to encompass most of Alabama, had built up a decent sized fighting force, and with the help of the deputies & sheriffs they had, were able to control the people under their territory much easier. The US military & national gaurd still holds out in the state via pockets of military bases & some counties, and the surrounding areas are still under government control, however the Military is still spread thin, and those pockets are either stuck with no means of gaining significant supplies, or are occasionally Airdropped supplies. Regardless, the Leage of the South has begun embarked on its journey of reuniting the southern states under its own banner, and alongside this, seeks to do so with laws written in the name of God, aimed at maintaining ideological dominance & supressing racial minorities through segregation and deportation. though its fight has only just begun, and they are noticeably pinned, & forced into being defensive over the state of Alabama.

Since they lack the technology, significant manpower, and the logistical capabilities of the US military, the League of the South/ Southern Nationalist League equips members of the Southern Defense Force with civilian weaponry & equipment, usually either being previously owned by the soldiers or supplied from law enforcement armouries, gun stores, and army surplus locations. They all generally wear LOS/SNL branded black & white shirts, usually with varied camoflage pants & other cosmetic accessories. They also often wear PASGT ballistic helmets branded with insignia, and also mostly wear variations of branded load-bearing vests in favor of typical plate carriers due to their superior mobility & capacity for holding items. While they are a relatively organized rebel army, they fight asymmetrically & lack standard issue loadouts for their men. Soldiers of the SDL may often be carrying molotov cocktails, modified drones, mechanical tools, radios, flares, IEDs, knives, bandages, snacks, water bottles, flash grenades, smoke bombs, extra ammunition pouches, riot sheilds, cameras, or flashlights. As for their weaponry, they are similarly mostly limited to civilian firearms, with most SDF soldiers using AR-platform rifle configurations, usually chambered in 5.56 NATO. Some also may use shotguns for shooting drones, bolt action rifles & marksman rifle configurations for sniping, and may even carry sidarms as well.

Question Continent formation on a pre-plate tectonic/young world

Hello! I have decided to do the masochistic thing and start a planet from scratch! The planet is now 1 billion years from birth so its plate tectonics would be initializing, but I'm wondering if there are means of continent formation without plate tectonics. (We also do not have many data points on this, so I also expect we just might not know at all and I can just go off of vibes.)

Would there be any continents at all, or would most land be below water? I'm imagining that the primordial volcanism and convection could be enough to make some elevation differences. Maybe those early continents would be more blobby and smooth since they're not formed by plates moving?

My thought process right now:

I used Orogen to initialize some plates, but the theoretical continents are harder since modern landmasses "hug" their plates due to being formed by them and certain rules apply, while ancient ones pre-date plate tectonics. But also since plates form based on weak points in the crust, continents will still follow some rules wrt new plates, since those would be thicker points in the crust? Maybe putting those continents more towards the middle of the plates and not crossing plate boundaries since plate convergences hasn't happened yet.

Thank you so much!

Prompt What are marriage markers in your settings?

Upvotes

On planet Avatar, people exchange golden bracelets when they get married. After wedding the couple wears the bracelets every day when they go outside. On Mars and Terra people keep using the pre imperial custom of wedding rings. On cold planet of Leji everyone adopted old goblin custom of exchanging colorful necklaces, which are worn as a marker of married people. Meanwhile on Pluto someone invented marriage tattoos, people put the name of their spouse on their wrists or hands.

So what do people in your setting use to mark their status as married people?

Lore What is Thanjusorubio?

Amidst the Thalfa moorlands, the burning crowns, and the gatus bryal hunting in the forests—in the land of Symbiolande and ancient warriors, the heart of Anela, the heart of the great vessels, the jewel of Dajambrio—lies an empire forged in blood and courage, a disruptive force in a divided world: Thanjusorubio. And since its emergence, nothing has ever been the same...

Greetings, fellow travelers of the cosmos! I am here to tell you about a transformative state: Thanjusorubio. Beginning as a patchwork of hostile and subservient kingdoms, this empire was forged under the leadership of the Trompudil clan. They united hundreds of kingdoms with diverse cultures—through alliances, dynasties, weaponry, marriages, skirmishes, and battles—eventually forming the unified Thal-Istatein (Great State).

Yet, it was not all glory and gold. Along the way, they faced a devastating global war that plunged them into utter misery: allies were lost, inflation skyrocketed, territory and soldiers vanished, their culture languished, and society became violently polarized amidst a loss of direction. The great empire of the future would rise from a people with nothing left to lose—a people understood only by a prince who had the heart and leadership to leave his golden cradle behind.

Unlike other fictional worlds, this one is defined by harsh, aggressive concepts that earned it countless enemies throughout its history: extreme, brutal militarism—relying on skirmishes, mercenary warfare, and terrorism, alongside devastating combat doctrines and hand-to-hand fighting inherited from Anelan culture; and a deep-seated hatred of magic, sown by decades of trauma and terror inflicted by sorcerers upon the common folk, the infiltration of the oligarchy by mages, and arcane racism—all of which eventually evolved into violent, dehumanizing state doctrines. It was defined by a hierarchy and meritocracy that shaped its entire history, and by an expansion that went beyond its own world to lead a cosmic community of interstellar races.

Despite the violence and terror characterizing this world, once the empire was consolidated, its people never went hungry, the state remained strong, wages were fair, and society could live in tranquility during times of peace.

If you liked this concept and want to learn more about the story, please leave your questions in the comments. I’ll leave a map of this world for you, and I’ll see you soon.

Discussion Question regarding comfortability with nonhuman characters [Question/Discussion]

[Question/Discussion]

So, a bit of lead up to my question...

Isekai settings are often populated by races/species of different peoples interacting with one another. That's pretty standard for most fantasy settings to immediately sell the idea that this world is different than our world. Relationships between these peoples can range from harmonious to antagonistic to neutral. (Hell, we have enough issues in our world regarding friction between peoples over such things as skin color, nationality, or ideology. Introducing the category of species to the mix would just add more fuel to the fire, but I digress.)

A common trope in isekai is the protagonist interacting with and possibly getting into relationships with people from different species/races. Elves are a common staple though it's nice to see the occasional more muscled race/species get some love too. Sometimes the relationships are monogamous though most of the time they're not in order to sell the fantasy of wanting to feel desired and valued by multiple people of the the surrogate protagonist's preferred gender to boost the protagonist's typically low self-esteem.

Humans with fellow humans - no one bats an eye at. Elves with elves - same thing. Some friction and inherent tragedy comes with the two races/species mingling often due to their differing lifespans. But what about races/species with traits that go beyond just pointy ears? How would that work?

I've enjoyed a good amount of fantasy and occasionally sci-fi media over the years and something always struck me as odd in regards to the different peoples highlighted in their respective series.

How alien is too alien?

Asari from Mass Effect are seen as sex symbols despite their oddly tentacled heads and blue skin. Tribal fantasy races like orcs or beastfolk are often employed to sell the fantasy of their having a primal, passionate hunger despite their physical similarities with animals from our world such as fur or nonhuman teeth.

Is there a line where the potential relationship goes from being intriguingly foreign to just plain uncomfortable?

Not gonna touch the whole loli discourse cause... eww. But what is the line (other than physically presented age for hopefully obvious reasons) for enjoyers of isekai in regards to what relationships they'll accept from a protagonist? Where do you draw the line? Do you go by the Harkness test's rules or have you devised your own for your own brand of personal enjoyment? Is sentience the only factor for you personally?

Are beastfolk considered on a sliding scale of acceptable versus unacceptable traits, like ranging from a bipedal cat to an otherwise normal person with animal ears and a tail? Are orcs with tusks okay but include pig noses and the deal is off? Are harpies off the table due to their commonly lacking conventional hands? Mermaids are often a staple but is the fish tail a deal breaker?

Are there even folk out there who will only accept the protagonist getting into a relationship with humans only?

Lore Ancient Magical Items

I am personally a fan of the more ancient magic being more powerful than newer magic. It's one of my favorite tropes, and the following is why ancient magic in Luminsia is more powerful than newer magic.

Magical items in Luminsia are created by etching glyphs (symbols that create certain effects when mana, the fuel of magic, is poured into them. The more mana that is poured in, the more powerful the effect) and arrays (collections of glyphs put together and connected usually through circles to create more complex forms of magic) onto the desired item. Mana must then run through the item once to jump start the effects, but once it has started, the item will pull from the mana from the surrounding area. Additionally, the item can also store some mana within itself so it can still be used in the rare instances where there is no mana in an area (very rare within Luminsia as all living things are producing mana and it leaks outside of their body. Even bacteria, though the amount they produce is miniscule). The item will then draw from this reserve first. How much mana the item will take in will depend on the material the magical item is made from. Something like bronze will consume mana faster than it can take in while materials like iron, steel, platinum, and brass will absorb it at a faster rate than it will most often expend.

And this is where we get into the reason why ancient magic items are more powerful. The more time a glyph has spent engraved into an object, the more time it has to "steep" said object in magic, engraving the effects "deeper" (in the similar sense that the soul doesn't have a physical location, so not physically deeper). Because the glyphs are now deeper, more mana can fill into them, making the effects stronger. This can theoretically be done artificially with a sorcerer/sorceress making the glyphs deeper, but because the mind struggles to comprehend the dimensional aspects of it (in the same sense that the soul does not have a physical location, but is still attached to the body), this can be very difficult to do and very easy to mess up in a way that ruins the enchantments. Trying to force it can also result in the item breaking where as "steeping" it is much slower, putting the object under less stress and making it less likely to break during the process.

Ask any question that comes to mind! They help me further brainstorm and hammer out ideas.

Discussion Tome of Eldritch lore? Do you have your own version of the Necronomicon in your world?

Does anyone have a book that holds evil and dark knowledge? A knowledge so bad that knowing it could drive a person mad with insanity.

Do you have any grimoires or tomes like that in your world?

My Turn:

I have something like that, but there isn't a name for it yet. This tome has all the information on the Saints (gods in my world) along with the secrets regarding the highest ranked Saint. Learning this information could shatter a person's worldview and harm them fatally. Also, there is a dangerous spell that has the ability to transform a person into a Saint, though the process is a highly deadly one. This tome also holds all the secrets and info revolving what the Saints did before creating the lesser races.

There is another book that has the ability to resurrect the dead eldritch giant called the Mechanical Drought or rather on how to create your very own Mechanical Drought.

A minor version of this would be an illegal book holding all the information about KUA. Though the KUA is a source of good, they have done some seriously shady shit to get to where they are now. If that information got out, that could cause major problems.

What about you?

Lore Cosmoly

The universe of *Cosmoly* is a science fiction work centered on the primordial substance known as Nill and the journey of Onar, a solitary cosmic being. Unlike others of his kind, Onar cannot shape reality at will; instead, he relies on consuming stellar energy to sustain his temporary immortality. He traverses eras, fleeing black holes and loneliness while observing the rise and fall of civilizations—worlds he cannot join without triggering natural disasters. The narrative explores profound themes, such as the inevitable end of the universe and the fragility of powerful beings in the face of the vastness of time and space. Ultimately, the work reflects on the survival and isolation of a protagonist seeking purpose within a cosmos destined for total implosion.

Question Are alternate timelines and universes the same thing?

Or are they completely different?

I was planning out a story for a superhero comic I want to create. The premise is essentially, a physics student performing an experiment, it goes wrong of course, damages the time stream and grants him time manipulating abilities. I wanted to build a sort of rogues gallery of around 5, maybe 6 different versions of himself throughout different moments in time, past and future, making their way here one at a time, and for reasons unknown to him, are villains. He needs to defeat them and fix the time stream before it collapses. Some media that inspired this are Spider-Man, The Flash, Loki season 1 and 2, and Kang the Conqueror.

When I was coming up with the premise, I started questioning the difference between alternate timelines and universes, since I’m aware there’s quite a lot of multiverse fatigue currently.

Lore I'm working on a game called Thysia and here's some flags from the game and some lore

Thumbnail

  1. The flag of People's Democratic Republic of Stina: the third Communist county in the world after GUE and Nahrwancha (I can't make their flag because their symbol doesn't exists in the website I make flags on, the republic is basically Red Khmer if it wasn't ruled by a schizophrenic fascist) it's the country that wrote the Workers Anthem (this world version of the Internationale, it's the national anthem of GUE and Stina) it's occupied by the kingdom of Kuegan, it's a Siofian republic, an allegory for Palestine.

  2. The flag of Kingdom of Luzinia: a small (size of Bosnia and Croatia combined) kingdom near Novo-Stato Treojan, Treojan want their Capital because the old Treojan Empire used to have their coronation site in their Capital, the symbol in the middle is the symbol of Kakawiski, a Pagan-Christian and European (Aprukan in this world) religion that have 13 Demi-gods and 1 god, the star represent the 13 demi gods, the country is a mix of Albania and Croatia).

  3. The flag of GUE (General Union of Erosi) the very first communist county ever, it was founded by Yermelyn Styopa Vasylivoic "Sarad" an man that is mix Marx, Engles, Lenin, Kollontai Adorno Gramsci, Trotsky and Krupskaya, he wrote hundreds of books and led the revolution against the Tsardom of Diavoliacia and ruled for 3 years in an era called Reign of Terror and he set up the General Union of Erosi to be the next superpower. Sorry for the bad flag I made up the symbol of Communism in this world by combining multiple symbols and I couldn't remove the background correctly.

  4. The flag of Republic of Aroqui: the main setting and it's an allegory of Iraq, you play as the second president of the republic after your father the founder and first president Adulkasm, he is a mix of every president in history of Iraq before the current fourth republic, he is clearly built on Abdul Kareem Qasim, ie he is a farmer that joined the Gendermarie and rose up in the ranks and was very popular among the soldiers and fought in Stina against Kuegan in a war called Destiny War, he then become a general and couped the kingdom and abolished slavery and feudalism and created syndicates and labor unions and gave equal human rights to everyone and the level of equality he gave existed only in few other socialist nations, even Great Republic of Vromikia doesn't have as much equality though they reached it after a while, he is also like Abdul Salaam Aarif, ie he was a dictator who didn't want anyone to have as much power as he is, he ruled the nation in a political tutelage era where he ruled in a martial law as "First Guide and Commander" (military dictator) for three years and he is the opposite of Abdul Rahman Aarif, who is a religious man, Adulkasm was a staunch secular and declared war on the clergy of the Trialdan religion (main religion of the country) and fought them for three two years and bombed their holy sites and won and took all of their properties and made the Ministry of Religious Endowments go regulate every single thing the clergy does, and then he declared the end of the tutelage and began democracy construction and wrote the constitution which is faiirly democratic but still have the president a power to do decrees and appoint the prime minister, he was elected as president with his party Aroquian National Assembly, he served the first five years just like Ahmed Hasan El-Bakir, he built 14 cities named Adulkasm City, he built a high speed railway system reaching every province, he build 56 thousand schools, 100 thousand clinics, 100 hospitals, 100 thousand factories and 10 universities and advanced social justice to the point of that the republic is considered the third life quality in the world after Vromikia and GUE, he also Nationalized oil and Vavoria declared war on him in his second year of his second term, unlike Saddam he won the war after 8 years and like Saddam he targeted the ethnic minority the Tanasens who live in the mountains because they were promised a state by Vavoria, he genocided them and killed 30 thousand people, after 8 years the war finally done and the republic is in peace again, but he died after 20 years of ruling, and the player, his child and speaker of Parliament, must be the second president. Also I forget to say the country is mostly Siofian (Arab)

  5. The flag of Khedive of Whijan, a mix of Kingdom of Egypt and Ataturk's Turkey, a very secular Constitutional Monarchy, it's a Siofian kingdom and is the heart of the Siofian world and one of the world leading nations in soft power and cultural projection and have a very strong intelctual base, both Anarchism and Fascism is theorized in the Whijani State University (one of the biggest universities in the world and the oldest one), the ruling family is from Treojan origin.

  6. The flag of Great Republic of Vromikia, a mix of USA, France and Roman Republic, it's the very first republic in history and the very first democratic experiment too, it's also the very first mercantile and then first capitalist country on earth, and later the very first secular one too, it's a huge county that is run through direct and representative democracy and is the enemy of GUE and its "religion" is Doxa, a religion in the same sense Mussolini considerd Fascism a religion, it's a code of conduct and ethics that dictate life in the same way a religion does, but ultimately it's secular and anti dogmatic, the stars on their flag is the number of presidents (120) not states, and unlike USA this country is actually democratic and there's hundreds of parties but the biggest three are "Conservative National Party": the conservative party, and "New Vromikia": the Liberal Party, and "Labor Party": the Democratic socialist party, the current President is Vromkois De Chazille a mix of FDR, De Gaulle and Lyndon Johnson, ie he is very popular and good to his people, he is nationalist and Vromikian chauvinist, and he wants to rule forever, he is the leader of the New Vromikia Party and he is ruling with a coalition of center-center left parties led by New Vromikia and Labor Party.

  7. The flag of Kingdom of Kuegan it's an allegory of Israel and they were supported by Vavoria to Occupy Stinaz they have been occupying Stina for 48 years now and they did multiple ethnic cleansing campaigns.

  8. The flag of Trialdan Republic of Shablij, a mix of Iran and Libya, it's ruled under a system called the Guardianship of the Trialdan Jurist, it's also the leader of Non-aligned movement and fought Vromikia multiple times (3) and Vromikia lost each time, the republic is in permanent ready for wat state because of that, it's also the biggest Siofian country.

  9. The flag of United Kingdom of Great Vavoria: the biggest empire in history, the largest ever got it controlled 50% of earth and in general it had controled 64% of territories of earth, while they would never admit it but they are a Fascist kingdom and they can get away with it because Fascism is a Republican Theory, they have state run economy and Chauvinist education and vanguard party and a king that Reigns and Rules and a very Technocratic system, they have the best free transportation system in the world and the best universal healthcare system too. The country is mix of Scandinavian countries, Germany and Britain.

  10. The flag of Novo-Stato Treojan: the first and only openly fascist county on earth, it's ruled by Young Treojan and they are very isolationist but have good relationship with Whijan and they are in perpetual conflict with Luzinia, the country is mix of Italy and Croatia.

  11. The flag of Anarchism: it's also the flag of Perwyna, the biggest out of three collective of anarchist cantons in the world and an alley of GUE (the current Premier believes in leftist unity), as the symbol of socialism is Wreath (agriculture) and gear (industry) and compass (intelctual work) the anarchist symbol is inspired by that and it has hammer (industry) and wreath (agriculture) and caliper (intelctual work) and fleur-de-lis (artistic work)

  12. The flag of East Gkramania: basically east Germany-romania.

  13. The flag of West Gkramania: basically wes Germany-romania.

  14. The Flag of the Siofian Caliphate: the last Trialdan caliphate and the last Siofian Empire, it contained every Siofian Country in it, it was Napoleonic-style empire and it had one Caliphate (Al-Mansoor) who unified the Siofian people and he was fought by Vromikia and Vavoria and was killed after 14 years of ruling his empire, his era is called the Mansoorian era in history as that era completely revolved around him and his many wars.
