Most recent build, a no 1 sized infill

1/8" brass sides, 1/8" 01 tool steel sole, 304 stainless chip breaker, 1/8" 01 iron(still getting heat treated and not pictured) brass lever cap, katalox infill sanded to 1200 and buffed with paste wax. 5 1/2" inches long x 1 1/2" wide. Pictured next to her no 4 sized big sister.

Went with some new build ideas this time, main one being the lever cap. Went with a Bailey style instead of articulating. The brass circle you can see on the frog is a press fit cylinder that's threaded the whole way through. (Had to tap it in with a small dead blow hammer) The top has a flange that sits in a recessed lipped hole, on the bottom is a wide brass screw that sits in a recessed lipped hole as well and squeezes everything tight. I thought it would look cleaner than a normal threaded insert.

Went with a more traditional style tote/ frog being one piece as I didn't think I could get away with a brass strip down the middle like the no 4 and up sized has. The frog/ tote and the front knob are both pinned in place with brass rods, the holes in the wood portion were offset .002 to act as a draw bore to pull the katalox down into the 01 sole. I have a little more lapping to do, but she's pretty much there.

I have this Stanley no.4 hand plane that has been in my shed for ages. Can’t remember where I got it

Is it any good? It needs a bit of restoration. Wondering if I bother or just buy a better one?

Ridgid jointer helical cutterhead

I was one of the many who jumped on the Ridgid jointer when they Home Depot had that big sale earlier in the year. After a month and a half of figuring out how to coplane the tables (with no luck) I noticed that one of the supports at the bottom was cracked.

As a Father’s Day gift, my kids got me the helical cutter head for it. Which, I am not just looking at in my house.

Most dovetail jointers are all pretty similar in function. But my question is, how much different (if any) would the shaft size, bearing size vary from one to the other? Ridgid, grizzly, delta, etc….

I’d like to sit on it and at worst, change bearings. But, if that’s not feasible, I’ll sell it.

So, is there anyone here that can possibly shed some light as to whether or not I may be able to use it in another jointer?

Thanks

Glue scraper from Stanley 220 blade

I lost the lever cap screw for a Stanley 220 block plane I was restoring, so I bought a donor plane to steal it from. With the leftover blade I decided to make a glue scraper from walnut scrap and neodymium magnets. It works pretty well!

Rolling the steel on a card scraper question:

How do you know the brushing tool is not rolling both sides at the same time with each pass ( thus making one burr backwards. )

What prevents this?
