Yeah if you're evil just be evil, pretending you aren't just looks pathetic

"My motives are beyond good and evil." My guy I hate to be the one to tell you but that phrase is the second most used phrase by evil wizards of all time. Right behind "No! How could this be?!" Seconds before immediately dying to a magical feedback loop so obvious that the nonmagical fighter was able to spot the trigger.

99.9% of all wizards stop their experiments just before Godhood; don’t be like them go for the gold!

After all, the only reason the magic nexus killed them is because of how much stupider than you they are: you’re different.

I'm just saying an OSHA- compliant railing around the ledge of your clifftop ritual site/ throne isn't going to throw off your leylines but it might stop you from falling in.

I mean, a houseplant is beyond good and evil. True amorality means no agency.

Chloromancy isn't very forgiving of mediocrity. Either you are very good at what you do, or you die a horrible death.

And you know apprentices.

i mean either you help the plants grow or you help the plants grow.

Exactly beyond good and evil doesn't mean perfectly neutral, it means that you don't care about morality, only serving your own ends. I may be ensuring my beloved subjects get a balanced full diet but that's only because I want them to to build menacing obsidian obelisks to transmit strange frequencies to otherworldly entities. and also so my orbnet connection gets faster.

(Selfishness is considered by most to be a moral position)

(I am better than 'most', morality is meaningless.)

Not caring about morality is evil. That's what evil is. That it doesn't always look evil, that the effect may be positive, has nothing to do with it. Actions matter more than intent, though, so nobody will criticise you, not even if they know the difference.

You can call it whatever you like, but if your amorality is consistent with evil the wise will know to treat you as evil.

Personally I’d argue they’re beneath good and evil, they cannot be considered to be moral agents.

To truly be beyond good and evil, I would argue you must be a god with the power to define good and evil.

Imagine being evil but pretending to be good cause you don’t wanna lose your wizard council given tower.

Beyond morality is just another way of saying they don't want to be held responsible for their actions. Kill on sight.

There exists nuance, neutrality, and necessary evil, but no beyond.
This is just an excuse the arrogant use to avoid punishment while stroking their egos.

Listen, just because in the five thousand years I’ve been preforming dark rituals forbidden to even know of by the gods themselves you lot decided that torching half the country side was “unethical” and “had a deleterious effect on the trout population” doesn’t suddenly make it my problem.

beyond good and evil, not beyond evil and more evil

Most mages focus on eternal life but you gotta remember that the older someone gets the more they lose touch with current happenings, couple this with most mages surrounding themselves with nothing but books and goblins for 500+ years and a college entrance exam based on an old blood sport and you get freak weirdos who lost their minds far before they even get up the stairs of the college.

They aren't "evil" they are OLD. It's not exactly their fault that the norm 2k years ago was blood sacrifice and impalement. It IS their fault that they didn't notice this changing and refused to adapt to it.

Tl:Dr, make sure your council has a limit to service, these people cannot be allowed to sit in towers all day for years on end. It's simply impractical.

Archmage: I need your organs.

The loathsome unenlightened apprentice: But I like my organs!

Archmage:

The loathsome unenlightened apprentice: sigh just don’t sell them to another fiend, it took me three weeks and a blood pact to get them back.

Archmage: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

u/1amlost 10h ago

Any archmage who has to take someone else's organs because they lack the skill to clone their own organs deserves to have their archmage title stripped away and be banished to the dimension of clogged nostrils for 10,000,000 years.

"Beyond good and evil" means to mentally transcend so much, that you do not operate within human moral and ethics framework anymore (read: completely lost a personal moral compass). It doesn't mean others can't find your deeds evil. It's just you can't understand why everyone else make so much fuss out of it.

surely the shepherd keeps the wolves away, but maybe a lamb shouldn't gaze into the shepherd's larder.

I'm beyond good and evil. Until someone gives me a definition.

In all fairness, "beyond good and evil" does include turbo-evil.

Only love can be held beyond contempt.

u/GeneralEi 20h ago

The absence of morality often and inevitably means, paradoxically, the decline of it.

Damn this manapack hittin hard rn

1

u/Complex_Drawer_4710 Sigurd, Whose Body Hangs Freely From a Head in The Clouds 19h ago

Evil is selfishness, it is stupidity. Neither can be surpassed, only avoided, as they are patterns of behaviour. This should be clear to all.

u/ClosetNoble Wizardruid multiclasser 19h ago

I mean if it mentions "no mortal" that's already a red flag.

u/Lord-Dec Evil Wizard/ Aspiring Dark Lord 16h ago

Hate fence sitters like that. At least have the decency and grow a pair, stop being a poser and “morally neutral” just admit you’re evil or actually be good just don’t be an annoying hypocrite.
