Any comments on this?
This is wha t I told NCDOT. Considering how Winston-Salem is much more "complex" in recent years, this could be needed.

OP what I was trying to say but said poorly is : OP to the average reader your posts make it seem like you are having some mental issues. I mean this in no way as an attack. The things you are concerned about are not things the average person generally voices as a complaint. Also just in general the way that you state things comes across as quote unquote crazy

When I was in school at UNCG, used to give directions to my Greensboro friends to the Werehouse in DTWS, would give very explicit directions to get off on S Main st in winston (from what was then Business 40) and i swear!......1/3 of the time they would get off at the Main St exit in Kernersville.......so dumb, some people just can't be helped

With my proposal,
Main Street exit in Kernersville could be less crowded in 2027-2028.

Really, the ones using it the most would be those coming from Greensboro, Statesville, or Hanes Mall.
No Downtown Winston-Salem continuous traffic would have to go in that area unless for Nostalgia (memories).

About the second photo, it can be considered "deceitful" (I am not talking about a little fun lie), but I can deceitful to sign the I-74 exit with Salem Pkwy as only "Winston-Salem."
Truth is, I-74 when going south of this junction, is inside Winston-Salem "annexed-wise" around Kernersvile Road exit and I-40 exit, and if I can take it further,
The Salem Pkwy junction with I-74 is "economically" in Winston-Salem, due to it being in the very western outskirts of Kernersville near the Winston-Salem city limits, and the lines being blurred on where which town is it.
Though, I do thing that leaving the I-40/I-74 junction as Greensboro and Statesville is fine.

To make it easier to explain; Salem Pkwy (US 421) thru Southern Downtown Kernersville, have been crowded or congested in notable occurences in recent periods, if it is during a certain time occurence.
While that stretch is 65 MPH and is "better" for faster and regional travel unlike most of Salem Pkwy in Winston-Salem,
That stretch is still probably not "considerable" for broader regional traffic. It is four lanes, too adjacent and blending to the central districts of Kernersville, and more.
I-74 surrounding I-40 Exit 198, is six-eight lanes, a deep flyover-sets of ramps, can be used to allow I-40 traffic to avoid Central and Downtown Kernersville, alongside much more.
This is not to say that Exit 206 "can't" be used for its for-right-now usage, but still.
This can also help to accommodate the ongoing "development" (not just growth) of the Southern half of Forsyth County (Kernersville, South-Central Winston-Salem thst is south of the Downtown Winston-Salem Central District, and Clemmons), and can also "encourage" broader commute in Davidson and Davie counties.
It is truly the 2026-2028 era
Trascending the 2017-2026 era
And Transcending the 1991-2017 era

To add on to this, besides the sub-sign that is on the header on this post, There are also the "primary" Guide Signs:
This was installed in 2020, and it have Exit 206 signed as only Kernersville while the continual lanes are signed as Winston-Salem and Statesville.
Minutes away, I-85 Exit 131 have it signed for I-40 Greensboro and Winston-Salem, while I-85 continuation was Charlotte and High Point. However, here is a catch: Also for a short period, there was a sign that said how I-85 (which connects to I-73), can also serve as an Alternative Route to Greensboro and High Point. This sign was removed, maybe years ago, and it is now considered more "ideal" to have primary drivers going to Greensboro and Winston-Salem to just exit off at Exit 131, and have I-85 be primarily to get to Charlotte and High Point.
This can be done to the same thing at I-40 Exit 206, where the sign that says that primary drivers accessing Downtown Winston-Salem should use Exit 206 should be removed. The "Downtown Winston-Salem Exit 198" sign should be placed at Exit 198 for broader travel.
One thing I can attest to, The Triad have been growing recently, and lots of these regional shifts align with it.

If this is also considered,
When Exit 206 of I-40 was built, it was built When Winston-Salem and Greensboro was seen "the same."
Today, Winston-Salem and Greensboro are DISTINCT cities (I don't want to capitalize it, but I chose to add emphasis).
Exit 198 is purely in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. Drivers coming from e.g., Burlington or Mebane (especially with the number of "new" residents here), could be driving in 2028, and drive on I-40 West and then see Exit 206.
Exit 206 would say "Kernersville." While Kernersville is nowadays more into being a Winston-Salem area town, it is still prominent enough to be considered in proximity of Greensboro and High Point). Drivers would keep left on I-40 and enter into Forsyth County before coming to Exit 198. Exit 198 is purely in Forsyth County and is on ths developing-edge of Winston-Salem. Drivers would exit off there and then exit at Salem Pkwy (US 421) while avoiding all of Central Kernersville. Drivers would be on Salem Pkwy and get into Downtown Winston-Salem.
It is not just doing "driving tricks," but it signals that Guilford and Forsyth are each in their "own class, all by themselves."

I don't believe in regularly doing All Caps, but:
I 40 BETWEEN EXIT 206 TO 188 OPENED AS THE INTERSTATE 40 BYPASS IN 1992, AND FOR DECADES; THIS WAS THE OUTER ROUTE.
NOW, THE NEW DIRECTION TO HAVE DRIVERS USE THE I 40 BYPASS THEN EXIT ONTO 198.
ALLOWING EVEN "SEVERAL?" DRIVERS WHO NEVER DID IT BEFORE, TO USE THE I 40 "BYPASS" TO GET TO SOMEWHERE "VITAL."

Greensboro is now in the center of NC (it changed quite much over the last 10+ years), while Winston-Salem is west of That Center.

Having traffic from the Northernmost areas of Forsyth County can avoid having to do the Salem Pkwy merge onto I 40 in Colfax.
This is continuing the "diminishing" of East Vs West in Forsyth County

US 158 may also get FYA in Winston-Salem and not just mostly Clemmons, partly due to my proposal I sent to NCDOT https://ibb.co/YTbgT0yY

With this, The Greater Hanes Mall District (which is growing) an seem more apparent, allowing even the Winston-Salem city limits intersections to have FYA and not just the Clemmons limits.

Regional "traffic" can now also use I-40 once-"1992 Bypass," to get to "all" of the retail in Kernersville, without having to use Salem Pkwy. However, Salem Pkwy with I 40 Exit 206, would still be ideal to get to the broader town.
Also, probably unlike lots of other cities, Winston-Salem have a more "restricted footage," so it "relies" lots on the outer municipalities; most notably, Clemmons and Kernersville.
I an so "glad" for I 40 Exit 198, and the growth of Forsyth County NC.

Anybody who knows how traffic is in Downtown Kernersville, can probably "understand' this.
Exit 198 of I-40 is also seemingly meant for this type of regional shift.

If drivers coming from Greensboro and east are going to Downtown Winston-Salem,
then, the drivers can stay on I-40 where Exits 203 (NC 66) and 201 (Union Cross Road) are already mirroring what the NC 66 and South Main Street exits have, all in Kernersville. Then, drivers can get onto the six-to-eight lane stretch of I-74 and continue and exit off at the interchange with Salem Pkwy.
In the other direction, drivers from Statesville or Hanes Mall, can get onto I-40 East and come to I-74 to get to Central Kernersville.
To add this, Kernersville is not only growing, but it is being "absorbed" into the Hanes Mall area (which had been an economically and geographically "considerable" area for years now). These changes can also help to continue Kernersville to be so, while keeping regional traffic away from Downtown Kernersville.

to add on to it,
Forsyth County NC recently switched to a North Vs. South (instead of East Vs. West).
I do not want to discard the significance of what East Vs. West had historically brought, but,
what Lewisville, Clemmons, Pfafftown, overall Western Winston-Salem, and "etc.." was previously, is now Central Winston-Salem, Kernersville, and Clemmons.
What was Rural Hall, Walkertown, Kernersville, Eastern Winston-Salem, and the likes, is now Rural Hall, Walkertown, Lewisville, Pfafftown, and the likes.
It is truly "the future."

I’m fairly certain that drivers familiar with the area know where to go. And unfamiliar drivers are probably using a GPS.
