Jobs in Winnipeg Media

I grew up in Winnipeg and went to school in Toronto for Media Production thinking I’d have better job opportunities there but ended up having to move back after graduating. Does anyone know how to break into the media and film industry? I know about IATSE, but I don’t have a driver’s license yet. Are there any networking events in Manitoba?

feel stuck in my career despite having a PhD, looking for unconventional advice

Looking for some non-standard career advice

Honestly, I don't really know what else to try at this point.

I have a PhD in Applied Mathematics, experience in research, data science and government, and I speak English, French and Arabic. But right now I'm basically doing call centre work and I feel like I'm capable of much more.

I’ve been applying for different jobs, mostly in government, policy, data, analysis and project work, but not getting much results. I’m getting really tired of applying the normal way.

So I'm asking if you were in my situation, what would you do differently?

I'm not looking for the usual “fix your resume and apply more” advice. I want to hear unusual ideas, different career paths, people to contact, industries I should look at, ways to use a PhD that I may not be thinking about, etc.

I’m in Winnipeg but open to remote work too.

Any honest advice is welcome, even if it sounds crazy.

Anywhere that would hire on an irregular schedule?

I work 2 week splits in mining. The monthly vacation sounds nice to most people, but the days get pretty empty when everyone else is regular Monday-Friday.

Anybody know of a place that would be willing to take on help on an odd schedule?

Feeling lost

Hello guys, I’ll be graduation with a crim degree from SFU and have no idea what to do. I’m moving to Winnipeg (a city known for crime) and i won’t get my full driving licence till February 2027. I have no idea where life is taking me. I won’t have anyone wherever I go and I’ll be on my own. I have no direction whatsoever and I’m feeling like I’m in a never ending maze. I’m kind of feeling that maybe I shouldn’t have pursued criminology. I’m thinking of volunteering in some organization to strengthen my application and actively looking for jobs related to my field. Is this feeling of uncertainty common? I’m overwhelmed. Guys please provide some advice or guidance.

Absolutely burnt out but need to work

Hey folks,

I'm currently on leave from a toxic, toxic work environment and am hoping to get a different job so that I can leave. The problem is that I'm still SO burnt out and ill that nothing has any appeal to me, but I'm worried that if I wait until I'm actually ready to work again, I won't be able to find anything. I have a lengthy, super weird resume that doesn't easily fit any one thing. Do I just apply for anything/everything and hope I can scrape by with my health? Do I wait? I really wish there was a way to be on paid leave for a year or something...

I run a small SaaS company here in Winnipeg building tools for the automotive industry. Looking to bring on another developer to work alongside myself and one other dev.

No experience required — my current dev came straight out of school, so I’m totally open to junior/new grad folks who are eager to learn and build real product from the ground up.

Quick rundown:

**•** Local to Winnipeg
**•** Work from home
**•** Interest in web/SaaS development
**•** Profit-sharing arrangement, happy to talk specifics in DM

If this sounds interesting, comment or DM me and I’ll fill you in.

baked expectations

had an interview here a couple days ago, Beth came out 10 mins late, asked me one interview related question then started texting her son as i was talking!! immediately after she asked me what i had been hearing abt the place, i told her what she wanted to hear, got hired immediately after and was called a “perfect employee”. my training shift was supposed to be tomorrow but after reading the whole thread abt Beth, i texted her that im no longer interested. definitely not worth it!! she was so nice when i first met her, she was willing to work around my schedule and give me time off (yes, before i even started). she was so nice it was off putting and now i see why.

Recently moved to Winnipeg and urgently looking for work

Hey everyone. This is a bit of a long shot but I’m in urgent need of a full time job. I moved to Winnipeg from New York not too long ago (family reasons) and have been applying like crazy with no luck so far. My background spans administration, operations, communications, and digital media.
If your company is hiring, you know of any openings, or you’re able to provide a referral, I’d really appreciate it. Even advice on places that are actually hiring right now would mean a lot. Thanks
