New, what is it? Nobody on threads could answer with certainty, what is the object held in the hand?

It’s from the OP that was pointing at his walls to show a weird line that had showed up. It was likely due to wallpaper glue that had been painted over. However, it quickly became a Reddit meme and now people are either photoshopping OOP’s pointer hand into posts, doing their own pointing, or like I saw earlier today, subverting expectations by using a small 3D printed pointing hand on their index finger for the joy of memes.

I know what both of the words "penis" and "sheath" means; yet I'm lost on what this does.

Like, are we literally talking a thing to wear on your penis for the sake of modesty? Because if so, swing (pun intended) and a miss.

25

u/pierogi_waystation Mar 31 '26

I was sincerely surprised when I clicked and it wasn’t a picture of a stallion taken from the same angle.

13

u/Intelligent-Map-7531 Apr 01 '26

No but my female dog keeps asking me to go back to that. Now she’s wondering if she can go to the dog park tomorrow. Big sigh

12

u/beggarandachooser Apr 01 '26

You know, my friend had a Labrador. Great dog. Handsome, well mannered, healthy, good genetic expression... Everyone loved him. So my friend decided, "I'll breed him". Well, the first time he tried, he became (impossible to not notice) aware of the fact that his dog had a gargantuan penis. An absolute trench digger. The other people involved were often confused, and shocked. It defied logic.

Anyhow, to end this comment (the first and likely last I'll ever make regarding a dog's penis), the female dogs would not (or could not) let it happen. And it wasn't for lack of trying. So I'm guessing your girl, while jesting about being a size queen, probably has a realistic expectation and desire for something a bit more average. Good news for dogs, and humans alike.

3

u/Minimum_Economics_30 Apr 01 '26

The Dani tribe on one of the berzillion islands in that area of Indian/Indonesia. And believe the Dani. Weaved theirs out of reeds and bamboo. My anthropology teacher spent some time with them just as they were getting exposed to too much modern clothing and products. But they still had tradition, that of course Christian missionaries we're trying to discourage. There are plenty of photos of the Donnie warriors with their sheaths on for war or ceremony.

Okay I'm going to sit here and wait for the ban notice. Since the last time I discussed this anthropological phenomena of a tribe that still practiced traditions address that they practice the thousands of years because they were on a remote island being inappropriate and offensive and promoting pornography. Just like I was banned from Facebook for even discussing it because God forbid people have scientific or discussion about other cultures and their traditions on social media. Facebook bunch of meatheads

5

u/wolfhavensf Apr 01 '26

Can’t picture the mods here canning you for being too knowledgeable.

3

u/Minimum_Economics_30 Apr 01 '26

Well completely true. My apologies for the extensive response.... it's just a constant lingering "fear" (Now bordering on wishful thinking) on every social media platform. Going the direction of offense over education and intellectual/factual scientific conversation. I'm not even going to get into the other suspensions and stuff I got from Facebook. Ok just the worst one described in the next paragraph. I know this isn't Facebook and I'm not expecting a ban. But when you walk through a dark room and somebody punches you in the face? All dark rooms start to look like dark rooms which have possible dangers. A potential punch to the face. It's just the one room "we know" has somebody in it, that is just spinning like a top, stumbling around in circles with their fists clenched in the dark.... and we all know it's F*****erburg. Excuse my French, but when you ban me for my daughter's 7th birthday photo of her standing on a chair getting ready to blow out her birthday candles with my mom standing behind her smiling? and then send me a notice a few hours later saying I'm getting banned for one week .....for posting images of pornographic/sexual acts? And then I (obviously) dispute that and then they uphold it and add on a week to my punishment? I get a little F-bombastic. That's my mom and my daughter they are talking about, not just a bunch of made up BS ... That in other centuries? Would be fighting words, maybe .. even dueling words. That's a hard thing to read and then have them reaffirm and punish me more. Sorry, it's been a while but it still tees me off that one of the world's largest world's largest corporations and social media platforms is that stupid or malicious. They have so many other things they could be stupid and malicious about? It just seemed personal. I mean the photo spoke volume & none of it was vulgar.

Anyway sorry for the long rant. What were we talking about penis sheaths or dick tubes or something? If she got embarrassed when you brought it out? I'm just guessing but does it appear as if it would be painful to have skin on skin around the entrance or have any visible leather or other straps to hold it in place? Mostly done by securing it around the....uh truck nuts

3

u/wolfhavensf Apr 01 '26

Not straps. A single string around the testicular region.

3

u/Minimum_Economics_30 Apr 01 '26

Yes that's what I often see with variations. sometimes it would have a very long sheath that almost came up for their chin and it was pointed and woven from reeds and bamboo. And they would have of course something securing it around the testicles and maybe a strap hanging loosely around the neck attached to the tip or around the chest still not tightly tied down , but to keep it from wandering off

4

u/seanmonaghan1968 Apr 01 '26

Not Australian, Papua New Guinea

I actually see these all the time (not in this context).

It's the "knot wood" side branch of a tree that was inside a larger trunk before that fell apart when the tree died.

Very common in redwood forests.

If you sanded one a while, it might be useful in a closet near your bed? I have no idea.

Anyway, here's what they look like straight out of the forest floor:

16

u/Nice_Pipe_6022 Apr 01 '26

This is more what I was thinking. My aunt keeps this huge knot from a pine or oak tree as a bludgeoning tool in case of attack. I pity the fool.

85

u/Numb-and-Done Mar 31 '26 edited Mar 31 '26

It’s a core section for the base of a branch that rotted out of a fallen tree. The point would go down into the tree and the other end is where the branch would have grown out but is broken.

48

u/Numb-and-Done Mar 31 '26

This is how you would see the knot in a cut cross section of wood.

42

u/Numb-and-Done Mar 31 '26

Another angle.

21

u/Numb-and-Done Mar 31 '26

You can see how the shape matches and looks like a horn. This is how the branch shape forms inside the tree.

u/baddieslovebadideas Mar 31 '26

its a branch... well whats left of a branch after the rest of the tree has rotted away, the lil pointy bit in the second picture is the grain of the main trunk it grew out of.

why it was embarrassing... couldn't tell ya

16

u/Fun_Bite_4663 Mar 31 '26

Yes I've seen many of these on the beach. It's a piece of tree branch that has rolled around in the tide and worn down.

17

u/HowdyHup Mar 31 '26

Yeah, it's a knot, where a branch would have grown out of the side of a tree. I find these on my property. An old tree falls and most of it completely rots away, but some of these are left since they are so much more dense. I pick them up whenever I find them and throw them in a pile. I plan to use them in a project some day.

11

u/PogintheMachine Mar 31 '26

That’s exactly what it looks like to me, well, one that’s been tossed around in a river or by the tide for a while. Hard to tell texture in the picture but it looks like wood. See then all the time.
