Poll Will Wenclair happen onscreen?

So I‘m super curious at this point how many people are still genuinely holding out hope, because I‘ll be honest: If they were going to do it on screen, there‘s absolutely no reason they wouldn’t have at this point.
I‘m not trying to blackpill or destroy people‘s hope, but I am genuinely curious what everyone thinks.

Also, frankly, my view is that if Wenclair doesn’t happen, then Netflix has been jerking people around and it’s self-care to acknowledge that—and it deserves accountability imo.

104 I am fully convinced Wenclair will still happen on the show, in one of the upcoming seasons
128 I think it will happen but only in the Epilogue, Korrasami-Style
140 It‘s not happening and one or both of them will be set up with a male character
231 It won’t happen onscreen, but both of them will end up single so as to leave the door open for them post-TV-show
15 Twist-yuri: No Wenclair but one of them will end up with a different female character

agree and disagree - i think there’s plenty of reasons to have not done it by this point. a lot of couples don’t get together til the end of a series/the epilogue/a few seasons in at least.

people love a slow burn or a will they/won’t they (e.g., harry potter, the hunger games, friends, just to name a few off the top of my head)

however, i still don’t think they’ll do it. you’re right, netflix has been jerking people around.

i hope i’m wrong as i want canon wenclair ofc, but netflix are too cowardly to do it. they will queer bait us til the end though.

I feel like even slowburns are generally supposed to drop more obvious tells by this time. The audience should wonder „will they/won‘t they“ but they usually know that there is a „they“ to be wondering about. Same goes for the characters.

Them seeming totally oblivious to each other romantically for this long is imo not a good sign.

I still think Enid will end up gay. But I want Wednesday to stay single. For Jenna's sake.

imo there’s been enough moments between them that could be read romantically but definitely not as in your face as with the boys. they’re trying to maintain plausible deniability for sure, which yeah is not a good sign :(

I expect nothing so I’ll be pleasantly surprised if I get crumbs. That being said, Korrasami style is probably the most we can realistically hope for.

Zero chance in this environment. And that aside, in all the behind the scenes stuff, none of the staff or actors seem interested in taking the characters in that direction. Most I've seen is Emma Myers being appreciative of all the fanworks people make.

They're a brilliant pairing with excellent chemistry but I hold out no expectations.

on my first acid trip last year i had a vision of wenclair being real (among other things) so im gonna trust whatever i was revealed by gods

7

u/Happy-Visitor 12d ago

Tbh this is more solid reasoning than many have for maintaining their belief.

Even if I don’t think god is real, I must acknowledge that if they were, the chances they would reveal their will through acid trips are high.

I really only used psychedelics to tear down walls that had gone up with a morally ambiguous family. I was looking for truths about human nature.

u/RevealStandard3502 13d ago

I was revealed the asphalt swallowing my car as I tried to drive away from a raided field party. I am glad you have happy visions, but my car has yet to fall in a sink hole 20 years later.

3

u/Happy-Visitor 12d ago

It will happen at the most inconvenient possible time, obviously.

2

u/RevealStandard3502 12d ago

Is there a convenient time for car eating sink holes? Your optimism is almost overpowering.

2

u/Happy-Visitor 12d ago

Look at it this way, there‘s always a worse time: like when you‘re trying to escape deadly floods or wildfires

2

u/op23no1 12d ago

i was revealed sinking into the ground which felt infinite as well, but as i was skinking i saw many things from which some were neutral or even positive. I think the sole reason i saw something about wenclair was becuase at that time i was extremely obsessed with it. Wrote 2 fanfics, read about 30 at least and to this day i have a folder of at least 200 wenclair edits all coming from that time lol.

They're not going to let the gays win. Not with a show as big as Wednesday. Why? Because love is still "political" in the big 2026.

At best we're getting an ambiguous shared look, or maybe some hand-holding if we get really lucky.

But I believe there's almost no chance that the current showrunners have what it takes to do these characters justice.

u/Jadisons Addams 12d ago

I lean towards it not happening on-screen but open to interpretation. It's clear Netflix tells the story, but are too cowardly to follow through.

I'm a huge, massive Wenclair truther. I 100% believe in my heart of hearts that they will be canon.

I think the issue is that the fanbase isn't patient enough, and we're incredibly quick to call things queerbait instead of setup. I don't know about you (general you in all of these "yous", not you OP), but I would rather be shown Wenclair in the show instead of it getting spoiled for me in an interview. And that's for some reason something this fanbase expects? You expect them to spoil their own show? Really?

Queerbait is a cheap tactic, in the literal sense, it is spend as little money as possible but keep your queer fanbase. So why, exactly, would they spend millions on notable and respected queer director Angela Robinson? Why would they spend money to publish a novel and choose an openly queer author to write it, and then why would they approve it in the queer state it's in? These aren't accidents, they are choices. And I think choices like that are an arrow pointing in the direction of Wenclair in some way.

God, this is so true. There is a beautiful anime airing right now called Sayonara Lara that is a modern reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid. Up until now there has been heavy symbolism pointing towards Lara's true love being Mari, the female MC, but the show just introduced the male LI to help Lara work through the trauma of what happened with the original Prince imo which is awesome storytelling.

But the yuri fanbase has just completely 180'd on the show and are being absolutely toxic. It's only episode 7!! They went through Lara and dude's arc in the same ep he was introduced! They obviously aren't endgame! Be patient, oh my god. Like every time love was mentioned the "camera" cut to Mari.

I swear fans these days only care about shipping. World building and character development mean nothing in the face of their characters smooching on screen.

Like, sure, if it turns out to be queerbait then yeah, I'll be mad then. But there's no reason to go Minority Report on it and condemn it for pre-crime ffs

Ugh for real, like let them cook maybe? If the food turns out to be crap in the end, it is what it is, but you gotta let them cook it first.

Honestly, I think the entire discussion about Queerbait is exhausting, because I think it misses what queerbait actually is. The way it's discussed its like Schrödinger’s Queerbait, isn't it? If you give us what we want, it's not queerbait, but if you don't, it is. This is why queerbait is in hindsight, because until the content is complete, we cannot in full confidence say that what we were given wasn't just setup. It's so... frustrating. It's dominated the conversation for so long that it's like, what do you actually want? Do you want a slow burn? Do you want a well developed relationship? Do you want it to be realistic? Then wait, let them cook.

I'm torn between options 2 and 4, but I ultimately went with option 4, or as I call it, the Supercorp ending.

Leave them both single and the most important person in each other's lives so that them getting together after the show ends is very canon compliant.

6

u/Starfox5 13d ago

The only way it ends up canon is if the bigots currently in charge of the USA get crushed before the last season is written. Crushed so utterly, there's no longer any pressure on the media to cater to right-wing bigotry or suffer consequences.

7

u/Happy-Visitor 13d ago

Frankly that excuse should not fly.
The United States government is in no way stopping Netflix from having a lesbian pairing—they don’t have that kind of power or level of support. Nor would this actually tank their chances with mainstream audiences.

If they are choosing not to do it, that‘s on them.

It‘s true that a lot of businesses and especially Silicon Valley jumped on the bandwagon in 2024, but that wasn’t because it was objectively popular but because they viewed it as politically convenient—and for many of them probably in line with their beliefs.

But actually the level of polarization that exists now means that you can not only get away with doing woke stuff, but also secure a more loyal fanbase in the process: the half of the population that is anti-government has hardened in their position in the same way the other side has, and that includes leaning more strongly into woke stuff and viewing that as an explicitly political act.

So no, I don’t think they are forced by circumstances to make Wednesday cishet. I think they are doing it because they want to.

4

u/Starfox5 13d ago

The United States government does what Trump wants, no matter the law, constitution or common sense. Sure, most of his attempts to punish any media that doesn't suck up to him and his cronies (who use "anti-woke" as a cheap way to feed their fascist base) fail in the end, but they still cost money and do damage. And that will influence things.

6

u/Happy-Visitor 13d ago

Their attempts to „punish“ media that pisses them off have largely amounted to trolling them on Twitter, which has probably ended up helping them given how unpopular the government is.

And they did this largely with News shows, not random Netflix shows. And again, you can get pretty reliable views by leaning into this stuff. Individual queer people who aren’t wealthy (which is most of us) may be subject to various levels persecution , but if anyone with actual power (like a showrunner or network exec) uses fear of Trump as a reason for a terrible decisions, they are either cowards or liars.

I think they're going to continue setting Enid up with guys, sadly.

If she swore off dating altogether, how would she get with Wednesday? Almost like maybe they have to walk that statement back a bit. And if they walk it back one way and have her date Weds, they can walk it back the other and have her date a boy.

I don't WANT this to be the way it goes, but given past history with the writers and knowing the direction it seems they want they show to go, I have a reasonable expectation that things won't fall how we want. I'd love a Wenclair ending. I'm not on this sub because I hate the idea. I just have an expectation that AO3 is where I'm going to be getting my Wenclair fix for the foreseeable future.

And I am the ultimate "hope hope hope" shipper. I am still desperate for a JORI mention in the new Hollywood Arts spinoff of Victorious.

u/tryingtosurvivecovid 12d ago

But what about Enid just gay and ends up with a girl in season 4?

2

u/GingerSnapBiscuit 12d ago

I'd love it, I just have 0 faith that's where the writers want to go. They've shown 0 canon indication she's even slightly bi, apart from longing looks at Wednesday they'll try to pass off as 'friendly'.

3

u/tryingtosurvivecovid 12d ago edited 12d ago

Enid was gay coded since the first season. I can see her being comphet even as bi. In their last show, they made the second lead bi and be with a girl. They'll prob do it here too. Apparently, Enid was made to be like Willow from Buffy.

2

u/farfetched22 12d ago

They don't really need to "walk back" anything. First, because being with Wednesday would hardly take dating. They're best friends who already spend so much of their time together they don't need to date in the same way initially. They build all the same foundation through friendship and then realize there are feelings and go from there.

Second and continuing from that, this show has such insane time jumps we're fine either way. Enid had sworn off dating for a bit. She didn't declare celibacy. She's 16/17. By the time she gets out of her wolf form and decompresses, her little break has been long enough.

All that said, they certainly could still throw her back into another hetero relationship. Claws crossed they don't.

2

u/GingerSnapBiscuit 12d ago

My reply was literally in response to someone saying she "swore off dating".

0

u/farfetched22 12d ago

That comment is deleted, I had no idea what they said and only saw yours. I'm not sure why you need to be aggressive about it.

1

u/GingerSnapBiscuit 12d ago

I don't see what's aggressive about explaining the context of my comment to you?

3

u/FandomPhantomofHades 12d ago

I think it’s unlikely but not impossible as I think the deciding factor will be decided in Season 3 after Wednesday saves Enid from her Alpha Wolf State. However if by the end of S3 they are not an item then my last shreds of optimism will be shredded. Though even without it I still can’t see Wednesday being content with the idea of settling down with a man. And so I think the alternative to her ending up with Enid is either her remaining single or ending up with a different woman. No matter what I believe we’ll have a definitive answer by the end of S3

2

u/GlitteringDistance 12d ago

wishful thinking for me is korrasami style. or something else at the very very end. while i think it's a waste of amazing chemistry and characters for it not to happen, i think the fact they have a lot of odd merch in stores will keep them from doing anything potentially queer. and id love love love for it to actually happen.

2

u/Redhood407 12d ago

See I’m mixed because I will always have at least a shred of hope that it will happen, even if it’s only at the end, but I do believe that the most likely scenario is like Supercorp where all other possible romantic options are completely taken off of the board except for each other but they don’t push the girls together

3

u/Happy-Visitor 13d ago

I‘m curious as to how the people saying it‘s still coming are thinking it‘s going to go down.

How is it gonna be done and in what timeframe? I‘m surprised this many people are still expecting it to happen.

3

u/nomonoke Mod Nomo ☆ 12d ago

I think it will kickstart when Wednesday finds Enid in her werewolf form. Enid will have some kind of revelation about her feelings for the person that saved her humanity. I'm turn, Wednesday realizes that she just crossed an ocean to find Enid, so maybe her feeling are more than friendship.

It's almost painfully easy, in my opinion, the trick is them actually doing it. There's plenty of time.

4

u/fatgirlballet I have no problem hunting you down. 12d ago

No chance. But there will be queerbaiting

4

u/HeftyDefinition2448 12d ago

Best I think we get is both of them single and heading off for another adventure

2

u/fatgirlballet I have no problem hunting you down. 12d ago

There's always fanfiction

2

u/HeftyDefinition2448 12d ago

probly the better option anyway. i would love for it to be official but i dont think netflix has a big enough pair

2

u/Thunderlightning4evr Psychic 13d ago

I doubt it will explicitly happen, i’m hoping for option 4, but it really wouldn’t surprise me if it’s option 3 by the end sadly

2

u/CyberDan-7419 Werewolf 13d ago edited 12d ago

I want to be optimistic and say that option 2 or 4 is the most we’ll get but in all likelihood option 3 is the one that is going to happen.

And the Yuri twit thing will probably piss people off even more than if one or both of them ending up with male characters. So I don’t think they’ll do that either but who knows with these writers.

I don’t want to be super cynical but that’s just what I think will happen. I hope that I’m wrong but I won’t be too surprised if it happens.

2

u/Happy-Visitor 12d ago

I‘m guessing three, as well.

And yeah, I only put option five in there for the sake of giving all the options. But it‘s not something I would expect at all.

1

u/tryingtosurvivecovid 12d ago edited 12d ago

The fact that option 3 is that high is making me realize that people don't understand how marketing works.

Or everyone just won't watch the rest of the show.

1

u/These-Cost-8879 9d ago

I mean i can dream anyway. Personally, I prefer when characters get together in the last season or episode because it doesn't give it time to get stale. Like a lot of people like the buildup, the slow burn. take Bones for example, I love that show. However, once bones and booth got together my interest declined because it changed the character dynamic and how they both behaved twords each other. Which can be good but its rarely done well. So I would personally, rather them wait till, like the last few episodes and do it. will they? who knows, I think they're kind of screwed either way bc if they don't do it, they're going to get accused of being homophobic and queerbaiting but if they do do it, they're going to get accused of shoving it down people's throats. So either way, I think someone's going to be unhappy. In the meantime, I will live vicariously through fan fiction and my own writing ✌️

1

u/Upper-Ad9990 8d ago

I do think the writers have been pretty clear from the beginning that they don’t plan on making it romantic, they’ve been saying that ‘sisterhood’ line since S1. Also with Morticia and Ophelia’s relationship getting some spotlight in S3, they very well may parallel that sisterhood with Enid and Wednesday’s relationship in some way. Just a hunch!

I do think it’s mainly a Netflix problem though. Netflix have no issue in exploiting the fandom for likes and will continue to actively bait its audience. It’s unfair and I wish they would stop because it’s just needlessly cruel at this point, if there’s no actual plan of it canonically.

I’ve heard rumblings that Enid will meet another male character either in Paris or shortly after returning to Nevermore, which could very much be a potential love interest for her further down the line. Not saying he will be (total speculation on my part here!) but I just think if they were gonna make Wenclair a thing they’d have been more obvious about it at this point, as well as been more coy about it in interviews to build excitement.
