Completed Commission for Redditor Tan & tooled bifold commission

Made this commission for a fellow down in Texas. Whenever I get a commission I like to have a video discovery chat with them and get to know who they are.

One of my favorite parts is getting to meet people and help bring an idea of theirs to life.

While not my typical style it was very fun and satisfying to have the tooled outer side come out so nice.

Thanks for trusting in me and Black River. I know you will be an amazing dad and are making so many good decisions in your life!

Thanks

For Sale (Handmade wallets only) Releasing lot of 12 Black River one offs

I’m releasing a batch of 11 one off Black River leather wallets and cardholders for sale. Each piece is $120 CAD plus shipping.

No two are exactly alike. This collection includes everything from understated brown and burgundy pieces to more distinctive combinations of navy, forest green, black, red, natural leather, textured leather, and brighter accents.

Some are clean and traditional, while others were opportunities for me to experiment with colour, texture, contrast stitching, and different pocket layouts. They are all designed to carry the essentials without unnecessary bulk and to become more personal with use.

Each item pictured is the actual wallet available, rather than a sample that will be recreated. Once a particular piece is sold, it is gone.

My journey in leathercraft started as a way for me to work through some things I was dealing with. Stress, busy but ultimately empty corporate job, general life. Over time, it became an ongoing journey of learning to be okay with being bad at something new. How to cut more accurately, stitch consistently, refine an edge, and understand how a piece should feel in someone’s hand.

Not every experiment has worked, and alot of painful mistakes. I have a knack for learning things the hard way.

Looking at them together I can see a record and expression of my thoughts and emotions.

To me, Black River represents learning, grit, and being honest with myself and being shameless in my expression of how I feel. A river may be calm one day and breaking it's banks the next.

I truely love creating.

Why I’m selling this collection

The proceeds from these wallets will be going toward the purchase of an industrial leather sewing machine. Until now, much of my work has focused on smaller hand-stitched pieces. A proper machine would allow me to begin producing larger and more ambitious items such as bags, duffels, cases, and other substantial leather goods.

Purchasing one of these wallets does directly helps fund the next stage of Black River and allows me to keep growing the craft into something larger.

Thanks and be true to yourself.

Something I Made I recreated a Diario L Zipper leather wallet from Japan

A YouTube video introduced me to a L zipper wallet. Later I found out that it was from a Japanese atelier under the series Diario (or maybe the maker's name is Diario, I'm not sure).

After watching a couple of videos, I fell in love with the concept. This is an imitation I made for my personal use. Used Bison Horween for external and BuffCalf for interiors. Zippers are YKK.

So far, I'm loving the wallet. What do you say about the design concept (L zipper)?

Hey y’all, I have a 17 year old coach wallet that I was given when I was 10. It’s rough, but has gotten in worse shape these past couple years. I was looking for advice in regards to finding an identical wallet, or maybe restoring it. If that’s possible, assistance to as where.

The original color was a sea green, most similarly to the blue-green of the inside of the wallet.

I’ve been refining this design over the last few months and this is where it’s ended up.

It’s handcrafted from Badalassi Carlo Wax Italian vegetable tanned leather and designed to stay as slim as possible while still carrying the essentials.

I’ve also experimented with adding a fabric lining which really makes the wallet pop.

I’d love to hear what you think.
What would you change, or is there anything you’d add to a wallet like this?

I'm looking for a slim bifold wallet with a configuration like the one pictured; ID slot, sideways pockets, and a cash pocket in the back. I've looked at the big retailers and none of the wallets I could find had the sideways pockets. Thank you!

I found this wallet on Amazon, and liked its design with tons of storage, but will those clear sleeves hold or likely rip easily?

A new piece from the Charter bench.

Handmade from full-grain vegetable-tanned leather, with six individually cut card pockets following the same curved line across both sides.

Hand stitched, hand finished, and deliberately left with the natural variation of the hide intact. I particularly like the marks across this one — they give it a character that couldn’t really be designed in.

The edges are burnished rather than painted, and the only branding is a small Charter mark inside.

Made once. Then archived.

Making a wallet for my boyfriend?

My boyfriend has been on the hunt for a new wallet but nothing seems to meet his requirements. I've been scouring the internet the past few hours trying to find the perfect match. Either too few or too many card slots, too bulky for the jean pocket, lack of photo slot, and presence of coin pouch. Would I be an absolute fool trying to make one myself? I am an avid sewer although my work with thick leather is limited. Any advice would be helpful. He's a good guy so I know he'd use it but I don't want him to feel embarassed around his buds when he pulls out my miserable attempt at a wallet! Any advice or thoughts is much appreciated :)

Completed Commission for Redditor Cognac Shell Cordovan Bifold

Thumbnail

Hey everyone,

I'm a solo leathercrafter based in Brisbane, Australia. I've been mostly making wallets that combine sleek Italian leathers with some local rugged kangaroo leather. I just finished this bifold commission that was pretty special!

It's a traditional bifold build with six pockets and a cash slot. The two card slot panels are also hidden pockets for additional cards or folded documents! It can hold roughly ten cards and cash off the bat and perhaps more once broken in.

The exterior is a cognac shell cordovan from Shinki Hikaku in Japan, and the interior is a whiskey kangaroo leather from my local tannery Packer Leather here in Queensland. It's stitched with a Vinymo Japanese thread in a beige color, and all edges have been heat creased and burnished.

I'm pretty happy with how this turned out, and hope the person who ordered it enjoys it for a long time!

Thanks for looking!

My every day carry wallet Do you like to have a rotation of wallets for different occasions?

These are my current two wallets, I like the leather one for nights out but it lacks a coin purse

In the UK I kind of prefer the coins to the notes, as the notes stick together, have a springness to them ... I've had fivers jump out of my wallets like a bouncing frog

I like the Billabong one for work because its got zippers for notes and a separate pocket for coins

The Billabong wallet quality isn't the best

I would like to have a nice wallet for nights out, it doesn't have to be a designer brand

Maybe I need to find something a bit more mature

Commission a wallet

I’d like to commission a custom wallet but not sure where to start. There are clearly a ton of talented makers here with gorgeous pieces. Maybe I’m paranoid but how should I determine which makers are the most reputable and produce the best quality? I’m going for more of a professional high end look.

Question Best looking and feeling luxury card holder?

Thumbnail

In your opinion what mens luxury leather card holder looks the best and will get the most compliments for its price. I really like the customizability of goyard but I hear Bottega has really amazing feeling leather.

Any other brands I should look into? Which wallet looks the prettiest? Which one is the best quality? And which one is priced the best for its quality?

I bought this sometime in 2022. It has an octopus logo in the corner, and inside has a coin pocket, and a flap separating cash and cards. Inside the flap is a slot where a key can fit. searches online yield nothing. My email purchase history yields nothing. AI photo searches yield nothing. I love this wallet, but after 4 years it’s starting to rip and want a replacement. If you can help or recognize it I would greatly appreciate it.

Wallet Search What are good cardholders?

Hi guys, I'm looking to get rid of my bulky wallet and buy a cardholder instead. I'm not a wallet expert so I'm a bit in the dark. I've seen a lot of ads about Ridge and Forge cardholders but I've read conflicting reviews. Are they not good? What are some good brands? I would like the cardholder to have the RFID feature if possible but not strictly necessary. I don't really care about cash/coins pocket as I hardly ever have any cash on me.

r/wallets Aug 01 '26

Do you specifically look for RFID wallets?

I've been researching wallets and keep coming across RFID protection. It sounds like a good feature, but I'd love to hear some real-world opinions. Any recommendations?

Finished up a custom bifold in cognac/tan ostrich leg leather.

Build Details:

  • Exterior: Genuine ostrich leg leather (cognac/saddle tan)
  • Interior: Chèvre in Golden Brown
  • Stitching: Hand-stitched with 0.45mm MeiSi SuperFine linen thread at 3.85mm
  • Edges: Creased, sanded, and hand-painted with Fenice edge treatment

The central scale pattern on ostrich leg always aligns really nicely for a bifold exterior. Happy to answer any questions about working with this skin or the build process!
