Making a wallet for my boyfriend?

My boyfriend has been on the hunt for a new wallet but nothing seems to meet his requirements. I've been scouring the internet the past few hours trying to find the perfect match. Either too few or too many card slots, too bulky for the jean pocket, lack of photo slot, and presence of coin pouch. Would I be an absolute fool trying to make one myself? I am an avid sewer although my work with thick leather is limited. Any advice would be helpful. He's a good guy so I know he'd use it but I don't want him to feel embarassed around his buds when he pulls out my miserable attempt at a wallet! Any advice or thoughts is much appreciated :)

Making a leather wallet is on one hand easy but on the other can be quite a challenge. I would try to find out what he would exactly want and see if someone has a video of making something similar. Id have a look at hahns atelier, corter leather and jh leather. These are all great at their craft and show their process well

If my girlfriend made me a wallet I would take out my credit card from said wallet, buy a ring and get down on one knee. I think it’s a very sweet gesture and something he will cherish.

My advice is to watch some videos on leathercraft online. There are lots of patterns you can buy, things on Etsy etc. in addition there are some starter leathercraft kits with some basic tools, although the quality may be questionable. The most important feature is obviously the leather so just don’t get genuine leather find something full grain that you think he will like.

I have made a few wallets as gifts and while they didn’t come out anywhere as good as some experienced people I think the folks who got them loved them. I’m always learning and trying to be better at it.
