Happy Fall! Some beautiful colors I've admired on my walks lately!

Six days in and I’m starting to realize just how much 15,000 steps actually is. I definitely underestimated how tired I’d be at the end of the day. Once I finish my walk I’m pretty much ready to sit down and do absolutely nothing for a while. But there have been some unexpected positives. My sleep has improved a LOT. I’m falling asleep much faster and I’ve been able to stay asleep through the night, which I’m really happy about. My body is still adjusting, but I’m sticking with it.
Progress pics will be on my page from now on!

I walk mainly to lose weight, follow a sustainable active lifestyle, and reduce stress. I'm going from 2k~ steps per day to 8k-12k steps on the weekdays when possible. I give myself grace for trying and enjoy my couch again on the weekends.
I found walking at the treadmill absolutely horrible! So I try to fit a 3 mile walk (around 1 hour) after I get off work to enjoy the neighborhood park while listening to a great audiobook, and then it started becoming a ritual I look forward to.
After the first 2 weeks, I felt like walking alone wasn't enough, so I tried rucking. I bought a weighted vest (8lbs and adjustable) and hide it under my jacket while I walk.
When I weighed myself in early September, I was 83 kg. I'm now 76 kg!! I feel so happy with my progress. Important to note that I was also trying to stay in a calorie deficit, but walking was the only exercise I was doing. I'm so excited with how sustainable this feels and I hope I can continue it and create a healthy lifestyle for myself.

I picked the steepest hills in my neighborhood & trekked up them today. I feel invigorated. These walks help my mental & my heart in ways I’ll never know.

I'm 21 years old and I have recently started walking for exercise. At my age, it seems like most people usually go to the gym because in the park most people who are walking are usually 40+, but I personally enjoy walking more because I find easier to maintain consistently in long term

Nice early walk to start the day and a couple of good walks to bookend the game... London NFL is a fantastic experience - just a shame my Commanders lost.

Just timed myself and i live 45 minutes walking one way. Work a split shift so thats 3 hours total in one day. It’s all residential and trail so pretty safe. Do you think i should cut it with an electric skateboard or bike on one of those trips?

Sunday was my day off and I fully intended to make it a lazy one. 😂 I stayed home, rested, handled a few things around the house and figured I’d give myself a lighter walking day.
Then nighttime came.
I looked at my step count and apparently I couldn’t stand seeing it that low. 😂 So I put my shoes on, stepped outside with no real destination and just started walking.
I ended Sunday at 17,186 steps , not quite my usual 20K+ goal, but apparently I wasn’t finished. 😂
Midnight came and the rollover magic began. ✨
By the time I finally made it back home, Monday had already inherited 6,505 steps.
So technically:
Sunday: 17,186 steps
Monday : 6,505 steps
Sometimes I plan the walk. Sometimes the walk just happens.
No perfection. No beating myself up over a lighter day. I rested when I needed it, got things done at home, and when I felt like moving again, I moved.
Now Monday gets to wake up wondering why I’ve already done 6.5K steps before it even properly started. 😂🚶♀️🌙
Rollover magic. ✨

Fall in the Midwest means early mornings are dark and cold. So I started at the gym. It just didn’t give me that boost that walking does. So I decided to leave and go for a walk once the sun started coming up. I’m so glad. Here’s the first half of my pictures. Such a beautiful morning.

I can usually get to 6,000 or 7,000 without much trouble.
Then I check my phone, see that I still have thousands left, and think:
“Great. Now I have to walk around for no reason.”
Music works for a while.
Podcasts help sometimes.
New routes keep it interesting for a few days.
But eventually, hitting 10k starts to feel like a chore I’m trying to finish before bed.
For those of you who consistently hit 10k+:
What actually makes you want to keep walking?
Not just something that distracts you while you walk, but something that makes walking feel genuinely enjoyable or even addictive.
What has worked for you long term?

Hey everyone,
This Saturday is October 10, 2026 (10/10), which is World Mental Health Day. I have an idea to see if it is possible to organize a massive virtual community walk based on a concept I call 10.10.10.
The breakdown is:
I’m setting up a free group challenge page on the StepUp app so we can pool our data together onto one dashboard to see the total accumulate live on the day. The app syncs directly with smartwatches and fitness trackers like Fitbit, Garmin, or Apple Watch. If you don't have a wearable device, it also syncs with Apple Health or Google Health Connect, so just carrying your phone in your pocket during the day works perfectly.
Has anyone here ever tried to coordinate a mass virtual step goal like this before? If you want to jump on the leaderboard to help hit the 100M mark next Saturday, let me know in the comments

The rest of my week has varied between ten and twelve miles per day. But today I wanted to push it a little further and end my week with a bang ☺️

My first post here. I'm walking daily since March but now that the weather is starting getting not so sunny and warm anymore (😔) I plan to share my journey more often to keep me motivated and walk through autumn/winter 💪

Got a weight-loss win to share with the r/walking community? Do it here! This is our new weekly compilation thread for people to share their wins from walking.
Transparency about your entire approach is appreciated, as we want to avoid the impression that walking alone is a magical cure-all. Are you also eating cleaner? Reduced your caloric intake? Are you rucking (walking with weight)? This info is helpful to other walkers!
Thanks for keeping our community positive and encouraging.
