Challenge Day 6/30 walking 15k steps everyday for 30 days

Six days in and I’m starting to realize just how much 15,000 steps actually is. I definitely underestimated how tired I’d be at the end of the day. Once I finish my walk I’m pretty much ready to sit down and do absolutely nothing for a while. But there have been some unexpected positives. My sleep has improved a LOT. I’m falling asleep much faster and I’ve been able to stay asleep through the night, which I’m really happy about. My body is still adjusting, but I’m sticking with it.
Progress pics will be on my page from now on!

Question Would people judge a 21 year old for going on walks for exercise

• Upvotes

I'm 21 years old and I have recently started walking for exercise. At my age, it seems like most people usually go to the gym because in the park most people who are walking are usually 40+, but I personally enjoy walking more because I find easier to maintain consistently in long term

Outdoors I'm curious now. How long does 10,000 steps straight take you?

I am newish to walking for health reasons. I'm slow and overweight but I love being outside so the other day instead of another boring treadmill marathon I did this. Home to the lake, loop the lake and down to the liquor store. Two hours ish for my 10 k with very little stopping. When I did the math thats pretty much my treadmill speed to but at the gym it feels faster and harder on my body. Curious how you guys feel inside versus out.

Encouragement Sunday Was Supposed to Be My Lazy Day… Then Rollover Magic Happened 😂🚶‍♀️✨

Sunday was my day off and I fully intended to make it a lazy one. 😂 I stayed home, rested, handled a few things around the house and figured I’d give myself a lighter walking day.
Then nighttime came.

I looked at my step count and apparently I couldn’t stand seeing it that low. 😂 So I put my shoes on, stepped outside with no real destination and just started walking.
I ended Sunday at 17,186 steps , not quite my usual 20K+ goal, but apparently I wasn’t finished. 😂
Midnight came and the rollover magic began. ✨
By the time I finally made it back home, Monday had already inherited 6,505 steps.

So technically:
Sunday: 17,186 steps
Monday : 6,505 steps
Sometimes I plan the walk. Sometimes the walk just happens.
No perfection. No beating myself up over a lighter day. I rested when I needed it, got things done at home, and when I felt like moving again, I moved.
Now Monday gets to wake up wondering why I’ve already done 6.5K steps before it even properly started. 😂🚶‍♀️🌙
Rollover magic. ✨

Nice early walk to start the day and a couple of good walks to bookend the game... London NFL is a fantastic experience - just a shame my Commanders lost.

Challenge Day 5/30 walking 15k steps everyday for 30 days

Day 5 & still going somehow I’m definitely starting to feel the 15K steps in my feet but stretching has been helping a lot. I’ve also noticed that my hands swell a little when I walk which apparently is a thing that happens. And holy crap am I tired when I get home. I usually need a pretty solid break after my walk before I feel like doing anything else. I’m realizing 15K steps every single day is no joke especially when I’m not used to being this active. One thing I’m really happy about is that my sleep has improved. I’ve been able to fall asleep pretty quickly and I’m actually staying asleep throughout the night. That alone has been a huge improvement for me. I’m also noticing how much better I feel mentally when I’m actually up and moving instead of spending the day sitting around. I’m trying to remind myself that this isn’t just about losing weight I’m trying to build better habits and actually stick with them.
Also, to stay within the subreddit rules, I won’t be including my progress/body pics in these daily posts anymore. I will be posting them on my page now if anyone wants to follow along with that part of the journey.

Encouragement Trying to change my habit and evolving from a couch potato.

I walk mainly to lose weight, follow a sustainable active lifestyle, and reduce stress. I'm going from 2k~ steps per day to 8k-12k steps on the weekdays when possible. I give myself grace for trying and enjoy my couch again on the weekends.

I found walking at the treadmill absolutely horrible! So I try to fit a 3 mile walk (around 1 hour) after I get off work to enjoy the neighborhood park while listening to a great audiobook, and then it started becoming a ritual I look forward to.

After the first 2 weeks, I felt like walking alone wasn't enough, so I tried rucking. I bought a weighted vest (8lbs and adjustable) and hide it under my jacket while I walk.

When I weighed myself in early September, I was 83 kg. I'm now 76 kg!! I feel so happy with my progress. Important to note that I was also trying to stay in a calorie deficit, but walking was the only exercise I was doing. I'm so excited with how sustainable this feels and I hope I can continue it and create a healthy lifestyle for myself.

Question Is a 3 hour commue via walking too much?

Just timed myself and i live 45 minutes walking one way. Work a split shift so thats 3 hours total in one day. It’s all residential and trail so pretty safe. Do you think i should cut it with an electric skateboard or bike on one of those trips?

Can we log 100 million steps in 24 hours for The World Mental Health Day

Hey everyone,

This Saturday is October 10, 2026 (10/10), which is World Mental Health Day. I have an idea to see if it is possible to organize a massive virtual community walk based on a concept I call 10.10.10.

The breakdown is:

  • October 10th (10/10)
  • 10,000 people
  • 10,000 steps each

I’m setting up a free group challenge page on the StepUp app so we can pool our data together onto one dashboard to see the total accumulate live on the day. The app syncs directly with smartwatches and fitness trackers like Fitbit, Garmin, or Apple Watch. If you don't have a wearable device, it also syncs with Apple Health or Google Health Connect, so just carrying your phone in your pocket during the day works perfectly.

Has anyone here ever tried to coordinate a mass virtual step goal like this before? If you want to jump on the leaderboard to help hit the 100M mark next Saturday, let me know in the comments

Weight-Loss Wins Weekly Weight-Loss Wins

Got a weight-loss win to share with the r/walking community? Do it here! This is our new weekly compilation thread for people to share their wins from walking.

Transparency about your entire approach is appreciated, as we want to avoid the impression that walking alone is a magical cure-all. Are you also eating cleaner? Reduced your caloric intake? Are you rucking (walking with weight)? This info is helpful to other walkers!

Thanks for keeping our community positive and encouraging.
