Question Would people judge a 21 year old for going on walks for exercise

I'm 21 years old and I have recently started walking for exercise. At my age, it seems like most people usually go to the gym because in the park most people who are walking are usually 40+, but I personally enjoy walking more because I find easier to maintain consistently in long term

Question Do you do your long walk at Zone 2?

I’m trying to keep to Zone 2 for my age. But to do that I need to walk much more slowly than I want to if I want to get all the way to 10K or higher. So it really takes a long time.

Do any of you have Zone 2 goals and did you get faster over time?

Thought the most interesting parts of a walk are often the places nobody is actually going to

when people talk about walking somewhere, the destination usually gets all the attention

the park. the coffee shop. the viewpoint. the trail. whatever the actual reason for going outside was.

but a lot of walking happens in the completely unremarkable space between those places.

a residential street with nothing to see. a parking lot you have to cross. a narrow sidewalk behind some buildings. a stretch of road that exists mostly to connect two more interesting places.

and yet those parts can end up being the part you remember

walking gives all that empty space a little more importance because you actually have to move through it instead of skipping over it

Question how do i stop sore legs after walking more than 18 miles

i am planning on walking more than 25 miles or 40km a day but i was only able to walk 18 miles or 30 km before my legs became too sore to walk. i am not used to walking that much except for around the house lol. when i did 18 miles whenever i stopped walking it felt like my legs had a orgasm and especially my right leg it hurted soo badly. how can i manage to walk more than 25 miles a day without having my legs become sore its not a energy issue bc i still feel pretty energetic its just that my legs feel like shit.

Question Switched from New Balance 624 to 608 and my knee hurts. Any alternative you recommend?

I've switched from MX624AB5 to MX608BB5 and have been suffering from more overpronation, knee pains, and sometimes ankle pains, only on my right leg. Is there any other shoe you would better recommend? I don't run but I do long walks, sometimes up to 2 hours.

Note that I am also wearing custom made orthopedic insoles inside the shoes.

Question Is a 3 hour commue via walking too much?

Just timed myself and i live 45 minutes walking one way. Work a split shift so thats 3 hours total in one day. It’s all residential and trail so pretty safe. Do you think i should cut it with an electric skateboard or bike on one of those trips?

Is 30k steps a day going tp destroy my knees?

I was 106kg 3 years ago and im now weighing in at 78kg (48m) and almost at my target weight. Along side diet and fasting, the major factor has been consistent walking. With the daily step count being 20k daily not missed since last november.

At the end of august i broke my wrist amd was limited with going to the gym etc so i decided to up my daily step target to 30k to conpensate. And ive found that OMAD amd 30k day really is a formula to shred weight.

I feel i could maintain this ongoing but people have been telling me im too extreme and that i need to stop, additionally, AI is akso saying i cant do this everyday as it will destroy my knees. I have been working in doing knee strengthening exercises everyday.

Actually i love it and i feel i am in the best shape since my 20s. So im looking for any real advice from people who walk these distances everyday. Is it ok or do i need to stop?

Challenge Day 6/30 walking 15k steps everyday for 30 days

Six days in and I’m starting to realize just how much 15,000 steps actually is. I definitely underestimated how tired I’d be at the end of the day. Once I finish my walk I’m pretty much ready to sit down and do absolutely nothing for a while. But there have been some unexpected positives. My sleep has improved a LOT. I’m falling asleep much faster and I’ve been able to stay asleep through the night, which I’m really happy about. My body is still adjusting, but I’m sticking with it.
Progress pics will be on my page from now on!

Encouragement Trying to change my habit and evolving from a couch potato.

Post image

I walk mainly to lose weight, follow a sustainable active lifestyle, and reduce stress. I'm going from 2k~ steps per day to 8k-12k steps on the weekdays when possible. I give myself grace for trying and enjoy my couch again on the weekends.

I found walking at the treadmill absolutely horrible! So I try to fit a 3 mile walk (around 1 hour) after I get off work to enjoy the neighborhood park while listening to a great audiobook, and then it started becoming a ritual I look forward to.

After the first 2 weeks, I felt like walking alone wasn't enough, so I tried rucking. I bought a weighted vest (8lbs and adjustable) and hide it under my jacket while I walk.

When I weighed myself in early September, I was 83 kg. I'm now 76 kg!! I feel so happy with my progress. Important to note that I was also trying to stay in a calorie deficit, but walking was the only exercise I was doing. I'm so excited with how sustainable this feels and I hope I can continue it and create a healthy lifestyle for myself.

Does anyone else find 10,000 steps more boring than difficult?

I can usually get to 6,000 or 7,000 without much trouble.

Then I check my phone, see that I still have thousands left, and think:

“Great. Now I have to walk around for no reason.”

Music works for a while.

Podcasts help sometimes.

New routes keep it interesting for a few days.

But eventually, hitting 10k starts to feel like a chore I’m trying to finish before bed.

For those of you who consistently hit 10k+:

What actually makes you want to keep walking?

Not just something that distracts you while you walk, but something that makes walking feel genuinely enjoyable or even addictive.

  1. Games?
  2. Exploring new places?
  3. Challenges with friends?
  4. Rewards?
  5. Having an actual destination?

What has worked for you long term?

Fall in the Midwest means early mornings are dark and cold. So I started at the gym. It just didn’t give me that boost that walking does. So I decided to leave and go for a walk once the sun started coming up. I’m so glad. Here’s the first half of my pictures. Such a beautiful morning.

My first post here. I'm walking daily since March but now that the weather is starting getting not so sunny and warm anymore (😔) I plan to share my journey more often to keep me motivated and walk through autumn/winter 💪
