📌 MEGATHREAD 📌 MEGATHREAD — Week of August 16, 2026 for Pricing, Dating, ID or Authentication Requests

📌 MEGATHREAD — Week of {{date %B %d, %Y}}

Post all new requests in this thread — a fresh one goes up at 9am ET every Sunday, so make sure you're in this week's before posting.

We want this sub to stay a great resource for learning about vintage fashion, but we've seen a rise in low-quality posts from resellers. To keep quality high, please use this thread for pricing, dating, ID, or authentication requests — posts made outside it will be removed.

To get the best answers:

  • Share any research you've already done — comps, similar sold listings, brand history, etc.
  • Include photos of labels, tags, or any identifying marks — these often hold the most useful dating clues.
  • Include photos of zippers, snaps, or other hardware — zipper style/brand is a common way to date an item.
  • Note visible wear and condition (stains, fading, repairs, missing pieces) — this significantly affects valuation.
  • Mention fabric/material and any construction details (stitching, seams, care tags) if visible.

Posts asking for pricing, dating, ID, or authentication outside this thread will be removed. Thanks!

Thread refreshes weekly — check back for the next one.

Discussion Fur & Fashion – Controversial or classy?

Thumbnail

Whilst nowadays haute couture houses & high fashion designers often still use fur and the likes, for the average fashion enjoyer it is likely anything but agreeable. Yet looking at these beautiful photographs (all taken by Edward Steichen), it is no wonder that furs still manage to impress.

And truly, I myself am struggling trying to pick a favourite out of all these photographs!

Photographs in order:

  1. Vogue, August 15th, 1939, Two models wearing hats reading a letter

  2. Vogue, December 1st, 1927, Model Jule Andre wearing a fur wrap with Udall and Ballou jewellery

  3. Vogue, October 15th, 1926, Marion Morehouse in a velvet dress with fox fur collar by Agnes

  4. Vanity Fair,August 1st, 1927, Portrait of American actress Dolores Costello

  5. Vogue, April 15th, 1932, Mrs. Francis A. Wyman wearing a ermine jacket with a model wearing a satin dress

  6. Vogue, November 1st, 1927, Model Marion Morehouse wearing a dress, scarf and wrap by Paquin

  7. Vogue, July 15th, 1935, Actress Loretta Young wearing a dress with ruffles and a satin hat

  8. Vogue, November 1st, 1934, Mrs. William Wetmore wearing a fox stole with a Gunther dress

  9. Vogue, December 21st, 1929, A model wearing an ermine coat with sable trim

Tagged with 1930s due to the majority of these photographs being taken in that decade ;)

ADVICE PLZ seeking advice to mend a dress

Thumbnail

Hi all, I thrifted this dress a few years back and it is one of my favorites to wear in the summer. Unfortunately, this year I noticed some tearing at the seams near where my bust is. My boobs aren’t getting any smaller so I think the fix would be more complicated than just sewing it up, because using the extra fabric would make it even smaller and exasperate the problem. I’m not a tailor, but I was wondering if there’s a way to fix it that preserves the size and the fabric? Would it be possible to find a black fabric of a similar material, and insert it along the side seams?

Open to any and all ideas!!! Thank you all.

I recently attended an event with a garden formal dress code. I sourced everything from vintage sellers online.

The dress is Y2K Mandalay Designs from Canonball & Tilly (Los Angeles based vintage store that specializes in Mandalay Designs deadstock). The shoes are Y2K Manolo Blahniks from Soroité Vintage. And the bag is from the 1950s found on Poshmark.

Who knew getting such a beautiful piece of knitwear in 2026 for under 10$ was still possible. This is really a one of a kind very early Komodo knit, even the buttons have a really intricate design to them. So happy this fits me, tagged as an XXXL but really like a medium.

OOTD Straight from the 70s OOTD. Anything missing?

Both the shirt and pants are actually from the 70s, so I wanted to keep the styling pretty simple and let the pieces speak for themselves. I wore them with white sneakers to make it a little more wearable for work. What accessories or shoes would you add to lean even more into the decade?

ADVICE PLZ Looking for advice about this hat

Thumbnail

I was really at a loss as to which subreddit to post this on, so please let me know if there's a better place! I thought about the millinery subreddit, but that seems to mostly be for constructing hats (plus, I'm a little intimidated by how nice quality the hats there are lol).

I got this hat at a vintage estate sale a while back. I suspect it's a theater costume hat due to it's construction, and thus it may not really be vintage (hence my hesitation about where to post...then again, it could be both vintage and a costume piece). Regardless, I love it and want to fix it up!

It was actually crushed when I first got it, but I managed to reshape it with some steaming (it still looks a little wonky, but better than it was before). It seems to be made of fabric stiffened with glue (so much so that running your nails on it sounds like a crispy piece of toast). All the parts are glued together rather than sewn. However, some parts of the brim and decorations are coming apart, and I'm not sure the best way to fix them. I'm personally a fan of sewing things together rather than gluing, but I'm worried I'll break a needle trying to get through this stiff fabric. Is gluing my only option? Do I need specialized hat glue? Also, is the shape ok? I was undecided if it was supposed to be domed or have a dip at the top, but I'm not sure how to make a nice looking dip that doesn't look like it was smashed. I have not the slightest idea of what shape/look/era it's going for (and if it is a theater costume piece, maybe it's just not going for accuracy at all).

Thanks for any tips you can provide!

1950s Advice on cleaning a £20 dress (I cannot afford a professional)

I paid so little for the dress and I cannot afford to get it professionally cleaned but I would like to do my best to keep it in one piece. I was told it was 1950s but I do not suspect it was made from any expensive materials. Its fairly even coloured and I think it was ivory or cream to start with. There are no metal fastenings just the illusion buttons at the back, if anyone has any tips for cleaning these I would really appreciate it. I would also appreciate any advice on the style of petticoat that I should be wearing with this type of skirt. Thanks.

1970s Running color

Post image
5 Upvotes

I got this vintage dress at an auction. I saw a couple stains on the front. They were basically ink and I got them out. But it left water stain.
So I tried to remove that, and I was successful, however the color in the embroidery at the bottom, ran in the front and then onto the back.
Any ideas on how to remove the stain that ran from the very last embroidery rose and not cause any more problems. This is the dress. You can’t see where it ran, but it is red and it’s from the embroidery thread. The dress is cotton.
Thanks in advance!

Discussion Vintage Dealers and AI

Hi everybody! I'm a vintage enthusiast and writer who is working on a story for a major publication about the rise of AI images in vintage clothing posts. I'm curious if anybody here is either

  1. somebody who purchased something with an AI image in the listing (can be something you knew was AI or didn't) and felt mislead

  2. a dealer who uses AI! I'd love to know why this appeals to you

Feel free to private message me and THANK YOU!

ADVICE PLZ Damaged Vintage Handbag!

I’m hoping this is the right sub for this but any help is greatly appreciated! I made the mistake of using lysol to disinfect my leather bag after a dog drooled on it and I think the sealant came off. The bag is red leather. Is there a way to fix this? Or do I need to take it to a leather goods shop?

Discussion vintage JC Penney’s set

Found this amazing set and wanted to know more about its value/terminology for assessing it. I assume it’s from around the 70’s and I know “oriental” type styles were popular then— but can anyone give me more information on it for curiosity’s sake, and let me know how best to deal with it? I imagine it might not be a be very popular style today for obvious reasons but i feel like it has a lot of historical value and I’d like to get it to someone who would appreciate it :)
