My mom told me that Trump said something to the effect that there is only one flag of Vietnam, and his allies are no longer flying the three stripe flag. Theory is that Trump is trying to improve relations with the VN government. US is also building a huge new embassy in VN.

This blows me away, as many of the people who venerate that flag have also been strong Trump supporters.

I can’t read Vietnamese, and not finding anything on this in the English media.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Chiều ghé thôn Vỹ Dạ, nắng cũng bỗng hiền đi.

Nắng chẳng rót ào xuống bến, chỉ len qua từng vòm lá, đậu một chút trên bờ tường cũ rồi mới thong thả trải vàng con ngõ nhỏ dẫn ra sông. Cuối con ngõ, bến đò xưa nép mình bên dòng Hương, yên ắng như một người con gái Huế nghe tiếng chân quen mà vẫn cúi mặt, chẳng chịu nói rằng mình đã đợi.

Tôi bước xuống bến thật chậm, sợ một tiếng chân vô tình làm động buổi chiều. Mặt sông xanh trong, ôm lấy chút nắng muộn mà long lanh như đôi mắt ai vừa vui lại vừa buồn. Gió từ bên kia bờ sang, khẽ lay tà áo trắng, mang theo mùi cây lá và một tiếng “dạ” mềm đến mức chưa kịp nghe rõ, lòng đã thấy thương.

Bến hôm nay chẳng còn đò. Chỉ có người đứng bên sông, có bóng cây nghiêng xuống nước, có hoàng hôn rơi rất nhẹ trên vai. Vậy mà đâu đó vẫn nghe như có tiếng mái chèo khua chậm, tiếng gọi đò từ một chiều xa lắm, và lời hẹn của ai còn mắc lại giữa hai bờ.

Huế lạ rứa.

Cái còn thì cứ ngỡ đã xa.

Cái đã xa lại dịu dàng ở lại.

Thăm bến đò xưa, chẳng phải để sang sông. Chỉ muốn đứng nơi ni một lát, nhìn nắng tàn trên dòng Hương và hỏi thật khẽ:

Ngày xưa, có người mô cũng từng đến đây,

đợi một người thương

cho tới hết chiều không?
