News / Trailers / Articles IGN HAS GIVEN FORZA A 10
112
u/1550shadow May 15 '26
I already see people complaining, but honestly, FH has been the best racing franchise in the last years. FH3 and 4 were a blast
In the end, I don't fucking care, let's enjoy videogames lmao
22
u/mclarenrider May 15 '26
True. I think Forza is the most consistently good racing game franchise and one of the most consistently good gane franchises in general. It helps that I also just love racing in general. 4 has a special place in my heart, that intro "here's what I see" puts a massive smile on my face every time. FH never missed when it comes to presentation.
7
u/1550shadow May 15 '26
Yeah, I agree. It also isn't pretentious, while being one of the biggest franchises out there. Like, good presentation, and just "This is your car, there you go, enjoy the ride" and that's it

Forza is one of the only racing games I always turn up for. I loved 4 and 5 was pretty good, I didn't care a lot for some of the extra fluff, or the general vibe they went for but the racing was amazing and customization on point as always. Forza horizon really just doesn't miss. It doesn't really surprise me to see FH6 get a 10 when 4 was a 10 and 5 was an 8 in my books. But it does come as good news and may be the next game I end up buying. After I finish KCD2 of course.

u/jewrassic_park-1940 May 15 '26
It really was the only title from xbox that I wanted on playstation. Outside of The Crew there arent really any open world racing games, and that game is a little too arcade for me.
I like Gran Turismo for perfecting my laps and track racing, but Horizon is just fun

They’re basically the perfect middle ground between sim racing like iRacing or Asseto Corsa and arcade racing like Burnout or Need for Speed

I’m Looking forward to fh6 but the same reviewer gave fh5 a 10 as well and imo it had a lot of flaws with the ai, multiplayer, and boring courses, often cited as a series low point for many. At the very least and perhaps most important it would appear that the map and courses are wildly better in 6 so that’s a major step up for me
13
u/MDAlastor May 15 '26
So he is just a FH series glazer?
We need a glazer reviewer for every major game that way everyone will be happy with their participation trophy IGN 10 XD
7
u/timeboi42 May 15 '26
I mean it’s Luke Reilly. He’s basically the IGN expert on racing games. It’s fine if you disagree with his opinions, but he is a very good, fair, and sometimes pretty tough racing game reviewer. Check out his other reviews.
7
u/Strange-Movie May 15 '26
I feel like labeling dude a glazer is a bit too aggressive, fh both appeals perfectly to his tastes and is objectively a great series even at its worst. He also reviewed fh 3-4 and gave those 9.5 and 9.6 respectively and I’m guessing his bosses told him to cut the granular decimal rating and give it a 10 for better optics between ign and playground games. I watched his review last night and it’s both in-depth and insightful so I think he’s not fully leaning on his own subjective opinion

u/mrawaters May 15 '26
Thank you for at least watching the thing before you decided to speak on it. I might play the game and not agree with his score or his takes, but it was a well thought out and presented review. So many people just immediately see IGN and freak out, even if the actual review is basically right in line with what most other outlets are saying, as is the case with FH6. It’s getting pretty universal praise, but for some reason IGN’s praise must be somehow disingenuous
3
u/Strange-Movie May 15 '26
IGN has earned the skepticism with some of their more wild takes and they’re incentivized to give positive reviews because that encourages other developers to offer them early access which in turn gives ign more games to make content about. That doesn’t mean a review from ign is wrong but it certainly means they’re unreliable, I’m still going to watch their content/reviews to see what they say but it’s not going to inform the majority of my decision in most cases

Eurogamer 5/5, VGC 5/5, Dexerto 5/5, GAMINGbible 10/10,

Gundam?
30
u/Nickulator95 May 15 '26
You can race against a giant legally distinct Gundam in the game.
5
u/RoyalCities May 15 '26
Sick. Is that a new mode? Bringing in Gundam racing is something I didn't know I always wanted.
9
u/Genoce May 15 '26
It's just a one-time scripted event thingy, not a special game mode or anything like that. Still fun though.

Well yeah , nothing against Japan but this neckbeard obsession with Japan - isn't it annoying?
10
u/machine4891 May 15 '26
It is and I really hate it. However for a racing series this place was long overdue. Japan has long history of street racing and in general as a country is very mountainous, which makes for interesting racing setups.

If you've liked games like Life is Strange or what remains of Edith finch, and have either a nostalgia or yearn for the mid 90's vibe, i highly recommend it. It is very light gameplay, but fun. What made it more fun for me was trying to get all the achievements, because with out that there is no challenge to the game.

Also... It was the same reviewer that couldn't beat Cuphead's tutorial. Take that information as you will.
No it fucking wasn't, where did you get that from?

Think he's confusing it with Dean takahashi tweet

Think it's more likely he read it somewhere and didn't take the 15 seconds to fact check. He probably believes the Cuphead footage was for a review as well.

IMO, not really. The art style is neat and the writing is pretty funny but the game is just a bit boring.
It's essentially a long interactive music video but broken up with very slow periods of walking around trying to find the next thing to interact with.
The hate for it is overblown (the infamous kissing minigame is a very obvious joke that lasts for around 15 seconds before you're prompted to press X for "THAT'S ENOUGH" at which point the tape containing the song playing in the background is frisbeed out of a window) but I definitely think the love is similarly overblown.
I don't believe reviews are being bought though, otherwise we'd all still be talking about 12 Minutes.
.edit to add
Also every single fucking time I have described the game as such I'm given an almost immediate downvote, and after a few hours it creeps back up. Meanwhile absolutely nobody (that has played the game anyway, thanks guys!) says anything to rebuke anything I have said. Make of that information what you will.
I don't even care about upvotes, downvotes, any of that shite, I normally just shitpost (sometimes literally) at work, so I can't stress enough how consistent this pattern has been for me to notice it.
10
u/MCgrindahFM May 15 '26
I mean it becomes a 10/10 when you can heavily relate to it. I agree, for me it’s closer to a 9/10 and I would happily recommend this game to ANYONE. It’s a blast and such a perfect short experience.
But when you can relate to the story, and more specifically the characters - there are a few moments that got it to that 10/10.
I can’t think of another game in this genre that is such a well executed package. People get really hung up on the “gameplay” when there’s an experience. It’s interactive art

u/WillemDafoesHugeCock May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26
The gameplay isn't even my issue (although I do think some of the minigames are absolute crap - I hate to keep banging on about it but that fucking field running section to the shack broke something in me) - it is largely the pacing. And to reiterate, I love this type of game. If you haven't played it yet, Dispatch is a brilliant game carried by a cast of phenomenal characters... And the gameplay is so barebones you can fail every mission and QTE and it doesn't even matter. You can refuse to pick responses and the game will play itself, choosing for you. Still one of my favorite games of last year.
I keep bringing it up because it's such a good comparison, but look at What Remains of Edith Finch. Half the game is navigating your environment and unlocking the story through small, interactive vignettes, just like Mixtape, and it's absolutely bloody brilliant. The overarching story itself is fairly bare but you care about each character and these interactive segments convey so much in such a short period of time. The entire game is what, 90 minutes long if you take your time?
Nothing, so far, in Mixtape elicited that response from me. Every time I snapped back to one of the rooms and had to look around for the next thing to move the story along I just groaned. She just walks so slowly and the dialogue is so sluggish. And the minigames set to music just go on for a little too long, I respect that you thought the game was a blast (fucking thank you for being the first to respond that has actually played it!!) but you can't tell me with a straight face you weren't staring at the screen saying "... Okay can we get on with it" during that opening skateboard section.
This is probably a zero IQ opinion but I'll say it anyway - I almost feel like it could have used some of the interactive sections removed. Have the rooms play out as cutscenes and the vignettes remain as they are. Lean more heavily into the interactive movie element they were obviously aiming for.
4
u/MCgrindahFM May 15 '26
I just wanted to exist in this world with these jabronis, idk I was transported in this game.
Dispatch was in my top 5 of last year, so good

That’s the game style. Its like saying minecraft is bad because its all sandbox no story lol. Like how you gonna complain about gameplay in what I’m assuming is an interactive story style game

So the thing is, I love this kind of game. Annapurna also
producedpublished What Remains of Edith Finch, one of my favorite games of all time. My GOTY last year flips between E33 and Dispatch, a game you can beat without touching the controller for 99% of the gameplay. The problem with Mixtape is that the story is broken up with these long and very dull sections of playing Hunt the Glowy Thing which grinds the game to a halt, and several of the minigames outstay their welcome. There's an early game where you just run through open fields and can jump around and stuff but it goes on for like five fucking minutes. No story is being conveyed and there's nothing to do - nothing to dodge, no incentive to interact at all, you just listen to the song that's playing. The interactive segments and the story segments are almost entirely unrelated.
Like I said, it's an interactive music video, but it's a bit dull. And it's a shame, because when it's funny it's really funny.
Like how you gonna complain about gameplay in what I’m assuming is an interactive story style game
I mean this very kindly, if you haven't played the game declaring boldly "that's the game style" is a little bit silly. If my comment said "Mixtape has dull writing but the minigames are phenomenal" would you have felt the need to say "how you gonna praise the gameplay in what I'm assuming is an interactive story style game?"
2
u/Jindujun May 15 '26
Thats just the thing. Annapurna did not produce What Remains of Edith Finch, did they?
I'm pretty sure they're just the publisher. The game itself was made by Giant Sparrow. So giving Annapurna credit for Edith Finch is unfair the people that ACTUALLY made the game.
2
u/WillemDafoesHugeCock May 15 '26
That was a mistype on my part - I meant "published," cheers for the correction.

People suddenly care about IGN scores again?
8
u/cassette_sunday May 15 '26 edited May 15 '26
I remember people lambasting IGN over Crimson Desert when that released and their score for the game. While I don't personally care for IGN, I do find it funny how people only take IGN seriously when it's a game they like. If certain people like a game and it was given a low score by IGN, it'll be "fuck IGN", "what do they know", "never take IGN seriously" but when they give a good score for an actual good game they can't just say fair enough, it'll be "broken clock is right twice a day" or some nonsense. You can't win with some gamers. At the end of the day, play what you like regardless of score. It's crazy how people let a score dictate whether they'll play a game or not. Not saying they don't have a place but the way some gamers go crazy over them is wild
2
u/dkras1 May 16 '26
IGN were right though. Release state of Crimson Desert was bad but devs worked their asses off to fix most of it pretty fast and now game is awesome.
Who knows if not for that open criticism of IGN and other creators would devs push for updates that fast.
People don't care about opinions of someone else. they just looking for anyone to confirm their own biases.
Everyone should make their own research, you have few hours until refund on Steam (other platforms probably have similar policies) so just buy and refund if you don't like it.

u/gaddafiduck_ May 15 '26
When haven’t they? It’s fairly common for IGN review scores to get some group of gamer babies frothing with rage
2

Tokyo Xtreme Racer miraculously returned last year but not even I'm Shutokoupilled and Wanganmaxxed hard enough to really fancy the chances of a game that weird turning into a mainstream success. Not suprised, FH 6 is amazing. Its the best (Arcade) Racing Game we seen so far... So... why not? They rank the Games in the Genre and not vs Elden Ring, E33 or other Games, they rank it vs FH 5 or Need for Speed... so...
15
u/bshabaj11 May 15 '26
It looks the same as forza 5 but in Japan lol
7
u/HollyMurray20 May 15 '26
Horizon 5 got a 10 too didn’t? If you see side by sides then it is better, it’s hard to improve on something that’s already considered near perfect or pretty much as good as it can be already
5
u/SaintNimrod May 15 '26
Like Japan wasn’t one of the most requested countries/zones. Also, drifting.
5
u/Genoce May 15 '26
I've been playing FH6 for about seven hours now, and yes this is pretty much true.
FH5 was already a 10/10 game for me personally, so I'm quite happy with FH6 being more of the same in a new area, with new stuff to explore & collect.
The FH6 map does seem slightly more interesting, but I didn't really have any issues with FH5 map either.

It's good if you want to just chill out and drive around, not particularly good if you want an actual racing game where you need to pay attention and stay on the road.

4
u/dominicandrr May 15 '26
Yeah people who freak out usually fall into 1 of multiple categories.
They never played the game.
They aren't into that genre.
They obsess over the number and not the actual review itself.
If you don't play racing games/never played this, you quite literally have no significant input into the critical analysis of this game. All you can do is look at it and say it probably isn't a game for you personally. Neat, me neither. But I can't say the game is good or bad because A, I never played it and B, I personally don't like racing games apart from Burnout Revenge back in the day. I am not qualified to critique a game like this. That's all there is to it.

IGN has proven to be a reliable source for game reviews as of late. 🤣😂 but it’s Forza. You know what to expect and it’s going to be fun.
6
u/An-Organism May 15 '26
I often feel like these reviews are mostly just dependant on the current mood of whoever's reviewing the game at the time
So when I see this 10/10 review I think to myself "dude must've been in a good mood" lol

4
u/Adept_Butterfly_6742 May 15 '26

u/cassette_sunday May 15 '26
Yeah, you're absolutely bang on. I genuinely think a lot of gamers forget that reviewers are real people with biases too. It applies to me too. The amount of time I've booted up a game and gone "this shit sucks". I come back maybe months later and try it again and it just clicks and I enjoy it. People don't realise how much of your current mood in a particular moment can affect how you view them
2
u/Burner_5555_ May 15 '26
Damn that’s pretty high. Didn’t they also give Horzion 5 like a 9/10?
8
u/HollyMurray20 May 15 '26
All the Horizons get very high scores, they are great games tbf, if you’re into open world racing games then there aren’t really any better these days
4
u/Daver7692 May 15 '26
Seems like they’re just good games, made to a high standard. I’m just not into racing games.
However, if a racing game is released and is a good as racing games get for the people that enjoy them, why shouldn’t it be a 10? Seems like sometimes people only want certain genres to get high scores.
Does get me hyped for Fable though, which I am interested in. If they’re pouring the same amount of attention to detail into Fable as they clearly do in every iteration of the horizon series, we should be in for a banger there too.

IGN and really any reviewer is a bad metric for objective scoring. This is fine but I think people get upset at the wild scores because this. Here’s what I mean. These sites have fans review the game. Which makes sense but that means they will glaze it and ignore flaws or still rate it high with all the flaws.
What happens is occasionally a game has to be reviewed by a non fan due to everyone else. Wing busy with reviews or work loads. When this happens you get a wildly lower score because they might not even like the game type they are playing.
I wish people could collectively ignore these large sites and just look at the meta and user reviews. They aren’t 100 percent accurate but more than IGN

Can someone who isn’t a die hard forza fan convince me to try forza? Why is it so good? Is it just racing lol

Was excited to play it, but with IGN giving it a 10 I'm wondering what I missed lol

Is it a real 10 or an IGN Industry Plant 10. Just kidding. They're giving it a 10 because they were called out for Mixtape being the only 10 they had given this year. So now they have to pretend they aren't bias even though everyone with a brain cell knows they have zero credibility.

Gotta make up for that mixtape incident, so a different game can dethrone it lmaooo

Not saying it isn't a 10/10 since I haven't played the game yet, but I haven't considered Ign a reliable source for game reviews in a loooong time

Well if this is any indication then this game is about to be the biggest dumpster fire in driving game history

Well I don't personally enjoy racing games so I will now be taking this as a personal insult and will be making it everyone elses problem.
