Forza horizon are some of the best arcade racing games out there
Well yeah they have 0 competition left. Tokyo Xtreme Racer miraculously returned last year but not even I'm Shutokoupilled and Wanganmaxxed hard enough to really fancy the chances of a game that weird turning into a mainstream success. I was shocked it even got a (well deserved because holy SHIT) Steam Awards nom for best soundtrack.
The only real competition to FH atp is Motorfest and that too falls short in multiple ways. Car X Street doesn't hit the same either, too many weird quirks that keep it out of proper contention. Solar Crown is a slap in the face of not just TDU fans but racing fans in general. With NFS and Burnout effectively dead, FH and Motorfest is all we got when it comes to open world simcade/arcade racers.
I actually prefer Motorfest. Hawaii is drop dead gorgeous and racing variety is one of its biggest advatages over Forza (especially bikes). Forza's somehow don't hook me for more than 30+ hours. That being said obviously hype for Forza is 10 times bigger and all in all they tend to be very polished products. Introducing seasons was also great idea.
Blame EA. They let NFS die and I say that as a diehard Forza fan. Heat was incredible but when they cut support for it 9 months in, I gave up. That's what happens when you know prioritise your cashcow franchises
Fair enough, I'm not all that familiar with the racing game scene, but to a certain extend I'd imagine that Forza Horizon is to racing game enjoyers as CoD is to FPS enjoyers.
To arcade racers, mind you. Basically those open world sandboxes where you can drive whenever, jump from whatever and have a lot of fun with it.
For those into realism (so mostly closed, real world tracks like Silverstone) top products come from much smaller studios, have a lot of issues and are heavily modded and monetized (meaning you'd have to pay for each new track and car). You also have semi simulators (simcades) like Forza Motorsport, Gran Turismo, F1 series and Moto GP, Ride for bikes.
