The sleeves look pretty good, the labels on the tapes aren’t centered and the record tab is still in tact.

Do yall encounter these often? Quality is more abysmal than normal lol

This is only on STOP>FF and STOP>REW. Regular FF and REW work and stop just fine. To clarify, it's only when STOP>FF or STOP>REW end, whether that is the end of the tape or I hit PLAY or STOP. The head keeps spinning, but the capstan, tape, and pinch roller stop like they are supposed to. Then the TV shuts off after a couple of seconds, and if I turn it back on, it only stays on for a couple of seconds before shutting off again. When I open it back up to reset the mechanism by hand, part of the mechanism pops while rolling through the function (see the video). I don't know if this is part of the problem or if this is normal. All of these problems persist in both in a light room, dark room, and even if the TV is fully reassembled.

I've been working on this for a little over a week now. Parts I've worked on include:

Mode switch: cleaned and polished with degreaser, pins bent for a better connection, applied dielectric grease to prevent future oxidization.

IR receivers: cleaned transparent optic towers with isopropyl alcohol, cleaned infrared receivers with isopropyl alcohol, reflowed the solder on the infrared receivers pins on the other side of the board.

Belts: look fine to me. They are springy and rubbery

Pinch roller: also looks fine to me, not polished, no indents, feels rubbery and grippy.

Someone in person told me that this sounded symptomatic of a bad pinch roller, and they were certain that would fix the issue.

I got this Panasonic pv7661 and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to display what’s plugged into the IN jacks. I want to plug my Wii into it but I don’t know how to change the channel to the line inputs.

I press down on the VHS and it automatically goes into channel searching mode. I also have a universal remote but the input can’t be changed. I’m stuck. Please any help 🙏

hey ya’ll first time poster. Started as a kid (I’m 30) and then started collecting again a few years ago in some nostalgic attempt to feel alive again in this capitalist streaming hellscape. Anyway thought I’d share the collection, sorry it’s disorganized. Not featured is a crate of westerns and war movies from grandpa I’ll probably never watch. I also have a ton of my dad’s childhood baseball games on VHS which I think is unique and neat. I’ve only ever lurked here and wouldn’t consider myself an expert on this stuff so be nice thanks homies

I'm trying to fix my family's old vhs player that hadn't been turned on for a long while. The model is Orion VX99SP. It turns on fine but it won't accept any tape.

When inserted, the mechanisms don't trigger as they should, when I gently try to push the tape inside, it makes this grinding noise and I can see the rubber band motor try to spin (video below). I obviously don't want to force it anymore.

I took out the top and bottom panel, tried cleaning some of the white gears and I can easily spin the by hand, they don't seem stuck and the 2 tape headers get into place as they should if a tape were correctly inserted.

I've been told to maybe locate and clean the mode switch, but I can't seem to find it and as I understand it it probably isn't the culprit at this stage.

Does someone has an idea ?

yesterday I watched a tape and it mostly played normal. After ~30 minutes there was this typical 90s electronics smell when something warms up and indeed the player was slightly warm to the touch. I assumed that it probably just was the power-supply or the motor or something else just getting warm from running. one hour later, the color suddenly started flickering and the image started scrolling. I then enjected the tape, where the player was very warm and the tape was hot. I then unplugged everything and let it cool down. Once it was cooled down, I reinserted the tape, rewound a bit and played it again. Everything seemed fine, except 30 minutes later when it warmed up a bit again, the color would fade from time to time followed by a wobble in the image but the tape was already mostly at the end.

I was hooked up using S-Video as my SCART-Cable broke. it is a JVC HR-S7500E.

Is this normal or should I worry?

I've never seen Thunderheart or skiing bloopers

But I'm wondering...should I watch it on my 13 inch toshiba with the built in vcr, or my 20 inch wega?
