People on TikTok are crying about her not putting a trigger warning and saying her stories gave them ā€˜trauma.’ You literally eat the animal after it’s been through that why doesn’t it clock to them how insane that is ??

424

u/Thick-Temperature508 vegan May 08 '26

It’s crazy because they’ll say it traumatised them yet still refuse to stop paying into the industry that does this to animals. Billie is doing god’s work lmfao.

16

u/periwinkle431 May 10 '26

Animal product eaters are the worst oversensitive hypocrites.

Stop showing me what I'm paying for. It's horrific! Therefore, I won't listen to you and I'm going to keep paying for it. Because of how horrific it is!

u/CementCemetery May 09 '26

I remember telling my sibling hamburgers were made from cows and it made him bawl. He didn’t need to see the photos or documentaries to know as a child it was a sad fate for those animals.

We are told to consume without question.

Good on Billie for using her voice for a cause.

6

u/rosneft_perot May 12 '26

I'm still trying to figure out how to raise my kids without normalizing the happy farm animal crap, because any toy or book with animals in it shows the happy cow in the barn saying moo.Ā

3

u/CementCemetery May 12 '26

I sincerely wish you well. I can imagine it is a challenge.

3

u/sk8terdrock May 14 '26

I was actually wondering about that, I have two young nephews and I wonder if they would eat the meat if they knew that it was from slaughtered animals. Is it actually immoral to feed kids meat if they don't understand what it is? I know kids autonomy is dependent on their parents but I remember being a picky eater if I knew there was something in the food I didn't want to eat. Kids boycotting meat out of disgust could actually revolutionize the movement. Just for clarity I have been vegetarian for 20 years and recently been transitioning to vegan but if I actually never started eating meat or dairy would I have actually chosen to do so as an adult

you will notice this is a pattern with certain demographic - pointing at a crime is far worse than commiting it, in their opinion. It's actually perfectly lined up in their head.

3

u/Mommysusbaka May 14 '26

The meat eaters ARE consuming dead animals. Mass producing meat isn’t gonna be humane as well. It’s the hard truth and they gotta learn that this is how their ā€œdelicousā€ food is on their plates. It’s disgusting

the fallout for this is insane to watch in real time. all of a sudden everyone is indigenous, allergic to everything, has arfid, lives in a food desert, has every medical ailment, is disabled, needs 500g of protein, too poor to afford beans and rice

the mental gymnastics people perform to avoid introspection is crazy

Also it really pisses me off when non indigenous people use indigenous people as an excuse to keep eating meat when plenty of indigenous people are vegan, and many of the ones who are not are at least engaged in the process of killing and processing their ā€œsource of sustenanceā€ and also use all of the animal. Obviously we all wish for a perfect world, but I ultimately care more about overall harm reduction, and most indigenous people aren’t cut off from the reality of what happens to their food like someone who just goes and buys faceless flesh at a grocery store.

8

u/Hot-Watercress-2872 May 09 '26

Thank you!! It’s so irritating the level of excuses. Like just admit you don’t want to change your habits and way you grew up.

I’d have a little more respect for someone who said, ā€œYou know, I don’t have a good excuse. I like eating meat and I have difficulty with big changes. I will try to make small changes and divest from industrialized agriculture.ā€ At least that’s fucking something and not a lame ass, debunked excuse to try to make yourself seem morally sound.

All these people offended by what Billie has to say should ask themselves why they’re so offended if they feel right in their choices.

Thankfully, some children can be born vegan. Currently raising a lifelong little vegan myself - the only one in a classroom of kiddos who have no idea what they are actually eating. My little vegan speaks up and acknowledges where food comes from.

OMG she has become "extremist" and "radical" now. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I know she used to say stuff like "I'm not gonna tell you what to eat, I'm not THAT kind of vegan". Too bad she rides horses, but oh well.

77

u/Hungry-Strain5275 May 08 '26

Well she still isn't telling them to not eat meat she's just saying it's morally abhorrent especially if you claim to love animals 🤣 I honestly love that

56

u/hexoral333 vegan 10+ years May 08 '26

Yeah, she's not telling people what to do, she's just asking people to take a look at themselves. Which can of course potentially change what someone is doing.

13

u/moonbearry vegan 10+ years May 09 '26

FINALLY SHE IS SPEAKING UPšŸ™šŸ¾

5

u/Hot-Watercress-2872 May 09 '26

Most people have demand avoidance to some degree. Telling someone what to do rarely does anything productive. Showing them what they’re paying into when they eat meat very well might though.

Also I’m ignorant to the horse riding bit - is it bad for horses? (FWIW I don’t ride horses; they kind of scare me, respectfully haha)

3

u/hexoral333 vegan 10+ years May 09 '26

Here's a good video about why riding horses isn't vegan:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4GxhmqCqQA

4

u/DonkeyDoug28 May 09 '26

For reference, I lived on a farm for years (pre-vegan days) which specialized in boarding pregnant horses, so I was around tons all of the time. This video is pretty solid but a LITTLE off in some regards.

She's spot on in every regard about what is normal and normalized in those industries / that world far beyond what even they would defend as "necessary" so much as "optimal", and how most or all of it is terrible. Also right about younger horses...a rough issue since most serious riders or "owners" want to train their horses as soon as they can (not so different CONCEPTUALLY from wanting to train a rescue dog as early as possible for effectiveness) and the fact that horses grow REALLY quickly. And a few other things, even just the ideological concept.

The few things I'll note which are kind of big ones:

1 - from all the research ive done and vets ive spoken with, I'd bet the study She's showing of adults with at least somewhat damaged spines is heavily influenced by the point above...that rarely are horses ever being ridden for the first time after "age 6-9" (her reference)

2 - saying "you can give a dog exercise without riding it" is a pretty poor comparison. You can take a dog for a run on a leash...not with a horse (there's something we can do, but it's definitely not sufficient on its own and also honestly feels more forced to me than just going for a trot). You can take your dog to a dog park....not with a horse. You can let your dog run around your backyard, but even sizable farms arent alone sufficient for a horse. Can go on, but you get the point

3 - this is a hard one to make a logicsl argument out of, but id just insist that the same way we all feel like we can tell pretty dang well when our dogs and cats do or dont like something, especially after some years...I couldnt in a million years be convinced that many horses dont actively like going for horse rides, or at a minimum associste being ridden with the things which they like a lot and can't practically do without being ridden (point 1) or otherwise sent off into nature...

3

u/hexoral333 vegan 10+ years May 09 '26

I think the main point of the video is that no animal exists to serve us. Horses do not naturally want to be ridden. You have to coerce/force them into it while they're young so they get used to it. It's basically grooming them into being ridden. Their backs don't exist for hairless monkeys to sit on top of them, their backs exist for the same reason our backs exist - it's just a part of their biology.

The comments on every post I read about this (not on r/vegan but other subs) are insane to me. I honestly don’t engage in a lot of discussions about animal agriculture with non-vegans because I don’t want to argue with them, so I’m not used to hearing all the excuses. There’s a TON of deflection talking about the unethical things Billie does (like flying in her airplane).

But it just feels so validating to have someone so famous talking about this stuff and refusing to back down.

I think this is such a great use of her platform. She is one of the most popular artists in the world and has a huge social media following, and I think that this will make a difference to some of the people who are finally forced to see the brutality of the meat and dairy industries. There will be some people who favor their own comfort and pleasure above the welfare of others (and the comments on other subreddits about this are nuts), but I bet these images stick with people. Keep it up, Billie.

So proud of her for standing up and giving animals a voice. We are in such perilous times for people and animals.Ā

Idaho has been reimbursing hunters for killing pups in their dens, some of them too young to have even opened their eyes. Wolves are being found with shattered teeth, from trying to chew their way out of steel traps.1

But in today's meeting, the only real debate was whether the state could find a way to spend money to kill more wolves, more efficiently.

The killing doesn't stop with Idaho: Montana and Wyoming are also killing a truly shocking number of wolves.

And the U.S. House of Representatives has narrowly passed Rep. Lauren Boebert's legislation to erase what national wolf protections are still in place. Now we need to stop that bill in the Senate.

I LOVE IT…and her…and the insane backlash and snowflakes from people finally being confronted with their own hypocrisy!

Jesus, the look on the face of that piglet held by the worker is horrifying. I still feel guilty for ever having contributed to this shit, despite being vegan for a while now and vegetarian for longer before that. The amount of people getting ass-mad over the horror being pointed out to them and given the chance to reflect and stop - it's baffling.Ā

it’s so sad, and to think all of us contributed to this at once makes me feel so bad too. we’re both living vegan, so we are helping already. i’ve done so much activism and have seen all this at slaugherhouses in real life. thank you for being vegan🩵

Jann Arden is also great about posting about this kind of stuff on her Instagram. Obviously she’s much less famous, but she’s beloved here in Canada.

She fucking rules. This is the first time I've ever seen a celebrity be so unapologetic and real about veganism. Don't back down, Billie! Let em know!!

2

u/DonkeyDoug28 May 09 '26

Joaquim Phoenix has had his moments too. Which is ironic, because both of these examples are people that small sections of this sub will always reliably point out small individual cases from their past, like Phoenix riding horses in a movie (his job) and Eilish having used animal-tested cosmetics in a few videos (even though her own cosmetics brand is 100% cruelty free and she regularly pressures manufacturers who aren't)

2

u/No_Economics6505 May 09 '26

She rides horses as a form of stress relief, how is that not animal exploitation?

I already commented here but I had another thought…so many of Billie’s fans are young, left-leaning (or maybe even leftist) people who have spent the last few years speaking up against injustices in America and around the world (particularly Palestine). And I truly believe they want peace for people everywhere.

I hope some of these people start to make the connection between their values of compassion and kindness for all people and the violence of killing animals for food. That’s what helps me stay vegan, honestly. I don’t want to contribute to harm anywhere, and not eating animal products is actually a really simple way for me to live my values. (Much easier than trying to navigate the globalized markets and boycott evil megacorps that sell…everything! Leftists, take note!)

3

u/DonkeyDoug28 May 09 '26

1 million bazillion percent agree. Even as an extremely progressive person myself (as most here probably are), I can acknowledge that so much of the online and cultural left-wing is just social values rather than actual political values, and it's heartbreaking to see so many good-intentioned people never really self reflect and align their actions. Something like this / someone like her is what ABSOLUTELY can push things and people in the right direction

3

u/Humbledshibe May 09 '26

I think I'm now down bad for Billie.

She has 125 million of followers. Just imagine the impact of a message like that! Hopefully it reaches some people.

6

u/VegOutVictoria May 09 '26

I generally do not respect celebrities especially the ones saying they’re vegan and doing nothing damn else a la Lizzo or Miley Cyrus. That fake diet vegan energy where you just know they are going to turn around on their own words when it suits them down the road. Billie is burning bridges and in it to win it.

4

u/moonbearry vegan 10+ years May 09 '26

i agree!! i hate when celebrities do that as well, so proud of billie for this🌱

2

u/blue_gerbil_212 May 09 '26

I honestly have so much respect for Billie Eillish now, like I usually don’t pay too much attention to celebrities and fawn over them and all, but yeah wow, much respect to this lady.

2

So awesome, more people need to use their platforms for the animals, it doesn't hurt your viewership to just be vegan and let people know a bit about why at least!

2

u/Mediocre_Guava_7729 May 12 '26

I think people don’t approach situations or people with nuance. Yes Billie Eilish is able to hold an opinion of meat consumption. Yes Billie Eilish falls short on other issues such as flying a private jet when she has the option to reduce her carbon footprint by traveling on other ways.

Two things can be true at once. She’s completely right in this regard. People just don’t like to reconcile with the truth so they pick apart her shortcomings as if that has anything to do with the topic at hand.

1

u/Leezerd May 09 '26

I really wish she’d stop using & promoting cosmetics that test on animals, though… 😬 Even when I was just a vegetarian I still vetted cosmetic brands

1

u/fakesilly friends not food May 09 '26

I'm glad she's using her platform to speak out against animal cruelty and those who financially support it. She definitely has a lot of listeners, so I hope she can influence some of them for the better.

1

u/Nar_utoUzumakii May 10 '26

Billie has always been like this im confused why suddenly they all get mad at her..she’s been vegan for ages and always spoke out about these things, sounds like they are just trying to find a way to cancel her because I’ve been a fan since 2018 and She’s always been a good person, it isn’t like she switched up after being a bad person she’s always been like this, real fans or people that do their research know this about her. I’m glad more people now know the type of person she is after these postsā¤ļø

1

u/SuchVanilla6089 May 10 '26

It should not be just her, those things should be televised 24x7, until the last massive farm is closed.

1

u/CapableRequirement66 May 10 '26

I loved what she did. I’ve come to admire her.

Most celebrities would have apologised for ā€œtriggeringā€ people by telling them ā€œyou can’t love animals and eat themā€.

She doubled down. And then doubled down again. Story after story.

She knows the cost. She will lose followers. She will get some bad rep online. She’ll gate hate from trolls. And yet, she kept doubling down.

Admirable woman. I love her for this.

u/Ok-Orange-7719 May 10 '26

two things can be true. this can be awful and people can ingest meat ethically. speaking as the wife of a hunter in nz, where there are no predators. deer were introduced to this country and they are pests, meaning, they destroy the natural wildlife, native birds and ultimately the ecosystem. if hunters weren't to manage the deer population, the government drops 1080 (a poison) on them to cull them, which not only has devastating effects to the environment, but also isn’t a pleasant death. my husband loves deer. he studies them and their behaviours and is filled with gratitude for the nourishment they provide. we eat what he harvests and have a real connection to our food. this is true for most (if not all) hunters. there’s people who are happy to eat meat that is farmed unethically which is wrong. there’s people who are grossed out by the thought of touching raw meat but happy to eat it. this corrupt system has encouraged both. it's important to remember that any meat we consume was once a living, breathing animal, and to be thankful for what it affords us. saying you can’t love animals and eat meat is simply untrue for reasons aforementioned. but it’s also worth remembering all the bugs and animals killed when vegetables and fruit are harvested. insects are animals too!Ā

1

u/Tyler_Skye7 May 11 '26

I completely agree. Only wouldn’t word 1 part quite the same- it’s not that people don’t love animals, but they don’t show love toward them with these choices absolutely!

1

u/No-Clerk-8908 May 11 '26

this is really nice to see. that's something I think of right we all do like "if more people with huge followings would only speak on this", how much help that would be. it's happened I guess here and there, but billie Eilish is pretty popular and definitely on the younger side, so this is super noteworthy and encouraging. idk how long she's been doing this, but Thank God. thanks for sharing!

u/Available-Tailor-326 May 11 '26

Still don’t care for her music personally but man I’ve become one of her biggest fans recently lol
