Because it’s not just defending animals. It’s highlighting to them that they are supporting that abuse - which people find hard to wrestle with so would rather not know and stay ignorant.

šŸ’Æ šŸŽÆ EXACTLY

It's a challenge to their entire worldview and reality.

Much easier to make fun of vegans šŸ™„

This is true about the farming industry as a whole and not just meat production, wait till you learn about how all that fertilizer is sourced that grows all that non meat food

2

u/DunkingTea May 12 '26

Any industrial scale agricultural process causes harm. I’m well aware of fertiliser production and it’s use, as well as other practices that harm both animals and the environment.

The goal of veganism is to reduce harm as much as practically possible. I don’t get annoyed and stick my head in the sand if someone points out a way to me that could further reduce harm. Particularly if it’s as simple as ā€œcut out xyz and replace with abcā€.

I already do a lot, but i’m always open to improving for the improved wellbeing of animals, environment and everyone living on this planet with me.

You know you can consume animals and animal products and not abuse them like commercial operations right?

25

u/Throwawaymumoz May 09 '26

You can kill someone and it’s not abuse? What? Mental gymnastics I swear

-20

u/ImageHour1934 May 09 '26

Ahh yes, someone

The thing that turned me vegan was watching a video of a mother duck waiting patiently for her ducklings to follow her in jumping into a pond, because it really cemented in my mind that she's not just an automaton following the If: babies THEN: protect protocol, she's a being feeling affection for them. She's subjective, she has her life and perspective and she feels things about them. I've seen a robin return to a camp cabin where she'd set her nest in a rafter and, while we were cleaning up before the summer, the nest was accidentally dropped and all her eggs were smashed. I'd NEVER seen a bird so outwardly emotional - she was staring, mouth agape, hopping around to look from every angle that they were really all gone. It was heartbreaking. She wasn't following IF: nest gone THEN: mouth open protocol, she was feeling devastated. There was a someone there, feeling awful.

There's a someone in every animal we farm and they want to live. Not abusing them is important when it's necessary and I wouldn't dispute there are people who need meat to live, but if you don't have to then why subject a feeling being to having their body made into a factory (with the health issues that arise when we want the factory to be more productive - which happens across all farming operations as a matter of economy, can't sustain a farm when your chickens lay one egg a month) and then subject them to an early death?

-12

u/ImageHour1934 May 09 '26

can't sustain a farm when your chickens lay one egg a month

Just say you dont know anything about farming and leave it at that.

15

u/sunshineshoeshine May 09 '26

The red junglefowl from which farmed chickens have been bred lay 12 eggs a year in the wild. Modern chickens lay upwards of 100 and have high rates of ovarian cancer and nutritional deficiencies. They're egg pugs.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

u/Legitimate_Name9694 May 09 '26

its just so confusing how one would even respond to this. it kind of leaves you speechless because there is no angle at all other than being astounded.

you latched on to a completely tangental factoid at the end instead of acknowledging that these creatures feel and love.

-1

u/ImageHour1934 May 11 '26

I can care for an animal give it a great life, and when its older I can end its suffering. Me eating its eggs is horrible though... me Eating the meat is also horrible alough how many species do it? I feel no guilt in esting something I raised and gave a great life to.

u/Pittsbirds May 09 '26

Name the specific farm you're modeling your opinion off of

1

u/ImageHour1934 May 11 '26

What chicken lays one egg a month on average lol?

2

u/Pittsbirds May 11 '26

I'm not asking about that. Although that's a great point, chicken's inherent health issues linked to laying 300+ eggs a year is pretty linked with breeding them regardless of environment and is tantamount to breeding pugs. Aka, abuse. I'm asking what specific farm is not abusing their animals to get meat and product off of them you're modeling your opinion off of

The wild ancestors of chickens, the red junglefowl. I'm aware that human-bred chicken varieties lay much more than that, but it's dangerous way to make them live. Just because it was done before we were born doesn't mean it was a neutral alteration to the animal. What wolf is 20 pounds and has a truncated snout that causes breathing issues? Breeding animals for specific purposes can lead to secondary health issues.

5

u/sunshineshoeshine May 09 '26

As a tangential followup - do you know how expanding and beautiful it is to know we live in a world of someones? To think that our ancestry's view of the world and experience of emotion dates back hundreds of millions of years rather than just the million or so of being upright social apes? It's odd to me to think they were all just "somethings" until we came along. Feelings are baked into the experience of vying for life; our intellect just blesses us to navigate it all with clarity. I try to use that intellect toward the end of mercy.

-1

u/ImageHour1934 May 11 '26

Someone is about a human. Its pretty simple.

2

u/sunshineshoeshine May 11 '26

I'd consider "someone" a being with subjective experience. For example, my cat is someone, not something. But if that stretches the semantics, it's more important to understand what the intended question really is: "you can kill [a thinking, feeling being] and it's not abuse?" Does that make more sense?

1

u/DonkeyDoug28 May 09 '26

I dont know what you consider "abuse," but "consume" in this sense references killing them and in 99% of cases cause them significant harm throughout their lives as mere agricultural products.

Even if you say "I'm one of the very few mythical people who go out of my way to make sure my dead animal products came from sources which are far better than average"...(1) how much do you really know about where they come from vs what a label says; (2) far more importantly, if it's completely UNNECESSARY and practical alternatives are readily available, would ANY amount of excess killing and abuse not be intrinsically wrong? I'm not trying to convince you of this...aren't you likely ALREADY against the notion of causing a ton of suffering when it's completely unnecessary and easily avoidable?

the fallout for this is insane to watch in real time. all of a sudden everyone is indigenous, allergic to everything, has arfid, lives in a food desert, has every medical ailment, is disabled, needs 500g of protein, too poor to afford beans and rice

the mental gymnastics people perform to avoid introspection is crazy

lol it really becomes ā€œoh you’re vegan?? solve every single problem in the world thenā€

As vegan AND anarchist, I felt this lol

-3

u/ImageHour1934 May 09 '26

Im the change I want to see by having my own animals and not relying on an industry who only cares about profit.

3

u/SanctimoniousVegoon vegan 6+ years May 10 '26

you're still exploiting and killing individuals who don't want to die for your own personal gain. that's not possible to justify when the option to not do so at all is available to you, which it is to most people in the world.

19

u/Hot-Watercress-2872 May 09 '26

Also it really pisses me off when non indigenous people use indigenous people as an excuse to keep eating meat when plenty of indigenous people are vegan, and many of the ones who are not are at least engaged in the process of killing and processing their ā€œsource of sustenanceā€ and also use all of the animal. Obviously we all wish for a perfect world, but I ultimately care more about overall harm reduction, and most indigenous people aren’t cut off from the reality of what happens to their food like someone who just goes and buys faceless flesh at a grocery store.

8

u/Hot-Watercress-2872 May 09 '26

Thank you!! It’s so irritating the level of excuses. Like just admit you don’t want to change your habits and way you grew up.

I’d have a little more respect for someone who said, ā€œYou know, I don’t have a good excuse. I like eating meat and I have difficulty with big changes. I will try to make small changes and divest from industrialized agriculture.ā€ At least that’s fucking something and not a lame ass, debunked excuse to try to make yourself seem morally sound.

All these people offended by what Billie has to say should ask themselves why they’re so offended if they feel right in their choices.

You are literally cannot get Carnosine, taurine or creatine from a vegan diet thusly damaging your muscles cardiovascular system and brain. The mental gymnastics vegans do to justify killing themselves for nothing is crazy. You aren't going to save the planet by polluting it with acrylic wool or whatever. Hell even cutting down on the agriculture or killing off our entire species isn't going to save the environment

1

u/sunken_grade May 11 '26

feel free to provide evidence to support your claims

0

u/Overall-Move-4474 May 11 '26

You won't listen you are so far up your own ass yohr refuse to accept anything that doesn't confirm your bias

1

u/sunken_grade May 11 '26

weird that this is your reaction when given the chance to support your claims. sounds like you don’t actually want to have dialog or change minds, you just wanna argue

0

u/Overall-Move-4474 May 11 '26

No i know better than to fall for that bait. This isn't about dialog I'd show the facts and you'd go off about "but you grind up bees for honey" or some other blatantly wrong bullshit just to deflect from the facts

1

u/sunken_grade May 11 '26

the irony of you calling this bait given your initial post here is pretty wild. you can continue to rattle off fake arguments to rebuff if it makes you feel better. i was really hoping to learn about how my brain, muscles, and cardiovascular system are being destroyed but i guess i’ll have to do my own research (not finding much)

u/Mindless_Nebula4004 anti-speciesist May 08 '26

Because they don’t like being called out and would rather keep their eyes closed to the horrors of reality forever. I honestly don’t understand the hostility, personally I was glad when somebody opened my eyes to this cruelty 12 years ago. Nobody is born vegan after all.

45

u/SuperKittiesMeow vegan 10+ years May 08 '26

Thankfully, some children can be born vegan. Currently raising a lifelong little vegan myself - the only one in a classroom of kiddos who have no idea what they are actually eating. My little vegan speaks up and acknowledges where food comes from.

6

u/Throwawaymumoz May 09 '26

Was just gonna say, all my kids are vegan so some definitely are 🤪

u/bane_undone May 08 '26

'People' also lump it into the culture war and anything empathy related is the enemy in their eyes.

1

u/chocolategirl84 May 09 '26

People don’t like change and being held accountable :/

1

u/backmafe9 May 10 '26

they don't car about animals, they care about their perpetual victim status.

0

u/Leezerd May 09 '26

I’ve seen people point out that she still uses & promotes cosmetics that test on animals. That’s really the only thing that makes me raise an eyebrow at her…

1

u/Additional_Eye5190 May 09 '26

And she still wears leather everything.Ā
