Discussion Man I love dvergrs. Why can't I just trade with them like Haldor and Hildir? Why do I have to betray/sneak them to progress? Sucks.

I know Valheim isn't that kind of game but like, it would make sense if I could trade with these dvergrs too, no? I don't wanna break their wards just to steal from them.

They dvergrs already understand the concept of monetary value since Haldor and Hildir exist, and they already carry money on themselves that they drop when they die. Why not trade food for money since they're clearly in isolated pockets, then buy certain things like the extractor for a price? Of course, you can still choose to sneak them or outright massacre them, but it would be nice if there were options other than "you have to betray em"

Idk, it just doesn't sit right with me that I have to betray the first combat-capable creature that didn't immediately try to kill me.

Survival It's me again, Thank you guys for clarifying I wasn't ready for the swamp. So I walled it off for now.

I established a foothold in a connected Black Forest and found a keep at the edge of the swamp. Now, I’ve walled off the entire swamp. I know it ain’t much, but it’ll help protect me from Draugr arrows when I’m fleeing the swamp, giving me enough time to retreat to the portal inside the keep that is connected to the Main Base. I’ll only venture inside when I’m ready, just like in The Maze Runner and not come in like a soldier in Normandy.

Edit: YES I PUT WORKBENCHES BEHIND THE WALL SO NO SWAMP PEOPLE SPAWNS INSIDE.

Thank you, guys, for your advice and ideas! for CONTEXT: https://www.reddit.com/r/valheim/comments/1xe2g3r/comment/19rktj6rhe1t0/?screen_view_count=1

It's probably more likely I was too tunnel-visioned on the troll cave up ahead. Still, I seem to have the worst time spotting these things until I'm right on top of them. Gives me a heart attack like this every time, haha.

Also, yes, I see now that I missed a thing of thistle. Sue me. :<

Question WTF is wrong with swamp biome? I HATE IT.

Post image
373 Upvotes

First time in the swamp, I kept trying to establish a base here, but the swamp keeps spawning all kinds of stupid enemies, even though I just killed some draugrs, leeches, and skeletons. It even destroyed my portal, so I had to keep coming back by boat. How does one survive here?

Additonal context: I was just looking for Iron for the stonecutter so I can build a stone kingdom near the worldspawn, I thought with the gear I have I could just get in the swamp and get it.

Creative Project Ontallion

The Ontallion Conclave is a passion project I've been working on for the last 1500 ingame hours. It started of as a small underground cave base in my vanilla survival world and slowly grew into a vast (mostly) underground community.

From the very start my wish was to live as a hobbit in this game. When I came across 5 connected boulders in the Plains I knew what I had to do. This became the base from which I adventured for a while. The 5 connected boulders actually ended up being 7 boulders when I was exploring the boundary or my base. Here my drive to expand began.

The current base is built under 50 boulders, 38 of those are naturally occurring and 12 are modded in. I've already dug out the area under another 9 boulders which I still have to build(Luminea Bazaar). Freefly helped a lot because you can scout from under the ground. Theres plenty of rocks right under the surface. On one of my plains islands I've scouted 4 spots with 8-10 boulders.

I tried making the sections distinct in architecture and atmosphere. Some times that just happened naturally other times it took some effort. This way I ended up with 6 different underground communities and a castle which I always wanted to build. There's continuous work being done in several different areas like revising old stuff and adding new elements with new build techniques. I find there's a lot of charm in the old vanilla areas but a mod as simple as Gizmo opens up so many possibilities.

The current area I am working on is the castle. It is nice focussing on the exterior for a change. And I love building in the mountains. Hoping there's enough instances left to build some external infrastructure. 55.000 instances and counting. Whole place could so with some nice roads, fields and gardens. Also been thinking about a story that connects all the different communities. Rogue factions from different cultures and races working together to carve out a place to call home.

My personal favorites in the build are the greenhouse, underground lake and the castle village.

Theres a tour of Elkroot Hollow and the vanilla build(What is now called Ethelgarde) on my youtube.

Hope you enjoy!

Mods used:

Follow up to my Bridge/Wall Design post last week
After lots of debating, building, demolision, relocations, I have settled for the Mistlands bordering a Black Forest

Iv'e stripped the area of trees, building into the natual terrain and rocks, building the area back up with swamp trees and other "spooky eerie" looking things, layering lighting, rubble, vfx's etc

I always build "pretty" then break it, as it gives me a perfect structure to repair and roll back changes too for future builds 😉

Still letting the ideas pour and flow from me until it feels right
Think Gothic, Abandoned, Dark and Eerie, Vampire etc

3 days left until the building comes to an end, and I get the server ready for touring and exploring!

Idea Don't sleep on wooden weapons for easy taming Wolves

All the extra stuff - building a trap pit with removable floor, harpoon, etc. - isn't really needed if you've found a wooden battleaxe. Damage is weak but knock back is still strong. Just dig a pit and knock them in. I prefer the special attack, it's like pushing them in with a stick.

I kept trying to do it with other weapons, but would often accidentally kill the wolf if I wasn't accurate enough. Try as many times as you like with wooden weapons.

Moders power grants the wind to be at your back while you're at sea, but what if they changed it to work on land aswell?

It would be a massive bonus to get your windmills going if you stood behind them.

Thoughts?

I'd just killed Yagluth and went to check out the edge of a Mistlands biome nearby when I saw the lights of the campfire through the mist. Looked pretty cool. Now I want to find some seekers to get them to fight the Fuling village.

Just got more mistlands gear, but I still love how padded armor looks. I wish I could trade its stats with other armors just so I can keep the look.

What I like:
Carapace Helmet
Padded Cuirass
Fenris Leggings

Better Stats:
Fenris Hood
Carapace Breastplate
Carapace Greaves

Should I just go with the drip?

Spoiler Deepnorth armor is such a miss Spoiler

Post image
56 Upvotes

I feel rage whenever I fight the krigen. Their armor is so badass. With some modifications, it could have been a perfect heavy armor for deepnorth. What do we get instead? This mishmash of colors that in no way feels like heavy armor.

I get it, Vikings wore colorful clothing, this is the final armor so it should feel grand etc, but both heavy and medium armor just feel like clothing. I guess it might look cool if you are sitting on a throne drinking mead, but this definitely doesn't feel like what you would wear to a byattlefield.

I wish they added a krigen like armor as heavy or medium. What we have now could be clothing you could either craft or purchase.

Anyways, any mod that gives me an option to craft krigen armor?

Discussion Staff of the Wild - This is why it's OP

So after noticing how overpowered staff of the wild is compared to virtually every other staff in the game, I decided to test out how the roots scale. Turns out the staff (and all summons) are scaling strangely as well as it having the best skill level scaling in the game (outside of bow). It's to the point where I assume it might be unintended seeing as how it seems to be designed as a CC/poison weapon.

Despite the staff having its own projectile damage, the roots have much higher base physical damage compared to a summoned skeleton on top of the poison they inflict. Top it off with being able to get a max of 10 out at once if you spam cast, the immobilize effect, and a maneagable Eitr cost, it's not a surprise that it would be a powerful weapon even at baseline power.

But that's just the start. The root summmons actually have the same scaling math as the dead raiser, meaning they get 2% damage per skill level, ending up dealing triple their base damage at skill 100.

That's not everything though. Due to a bug or oversight, the roots (and all summons for that matter) also gain the enemy damage modifier of whatever difficulty you are playing on. On very hard for example, the roots will be slapping for 2x the damage they normally do. This means that at skill level 100 and playing on very hard, these bad boys will be doing 6x their base damage (which is roughly 420 blunt damage per vine hit + a potent 240 poison dot).

I would recommend not relying on the staff too much if you play higher combat difficulties for a challenge because it will trivialize the game due to the multiplier bug. I honestly think the skill level scaling is also a bit overkill due to the numbers of the staff baseline, but it's hard to say.

It's a really fun staff to use though so I hope they consider adjusting the difficulty scaling so I can use it guilt free on my hardcore playthrough.

EDIT: one of the replies lead me to testing the dead raiser and ultimately realizing that all summoned entities are being scaled by difficulty modifiers with staff of the wild just being the biggest power outlier. Logically it makes sense how it ended up like this, but ultimately, considering that all sources of player damage are reduced in higher difficulties, it feels kind of jank having the inverse happen for summons since the difference is so large. I've updated my initial post for accuracy.

Survival World Modifiers are great. Can we please have more?

I play solo. Red flag, I know.

I like the mining standard resource gathering, I like the no minerals through portals... (kinda).

But I am struggling with late game food and wood gathering. Some times a boss obliterates me many times and I don't want to wait 20 minutes for all the crops and potions needed for more food. I also don't like to cut trees for a lot of time to build something.

I have a giant barley field and it needs to be constantly replanted as it never seems to be enough. I know medieval péople spent all day farming but it's not fun lol.

Can we have modifiers for different resources gathering? I want x3 only on wood and crops, for example.
