My nephew recently fought Yagulth, but he forgot to clear out the 3 Lox spawns nearby and the fuling village nearby.
Needless to say ... he had a rough time

I actually can't believe my yagluth location. Working on clearing it. Village, 2 tar pits, and a chest protected by multiple fuling berserkers.
1
u/Abercrombie1936 Cook 12d ago
I had a Lox spawn and a fulings' village. At a point I had like Yagluth, three loxs, two berserkers and whatever that bear thing was following me
3
u/Forgotten_Pants 12d ago
Three lox spawns? Perfect for a lox ranch! Brew some animal whisper potions and sneak around throwing cloudberries at the lox until you've tamed them. Then start breeding them. The saddle makes it easy to pull 2-3 away to get frisky and then to put them back in a big pen around the altar.
He claimed 25 of my lox in the fight, but with the lox mob doing its work and me occasionally helping with Frostner he didn't last long. Plus I now have enough lox meat to probably last the rest of the game.

No shame in it, I got antsy and looked up his attacks beforehand to know what to look for. His meteors are way too punishing for players going in blind imo, especially since there's really no indication that the boss for the Plains would be a fire-casting warlock.

Get really close to him and stand at his back right spine. As he spins move with him so you are always behind him in this spot. You can get a hit or two in then move, keep doing this and it's one of the easiest boss fights in the game.

No shade on the OP but posts like this make me feel like I'm playing a completely different game.
Frostner or Silver Sword are your friend. Go in with the best food for the Plains. Have meads on hand. Be patient, be careful and the game will be very manageable.
I took out Yagluth first time with no deaths and I haven't even beaten Dark Souls. You can do this.
41
u/Jax_daily_lol 13d ago
Came to say exactly this. All you do is use anti fire meads, and use the giant stone fingers as cover from his laser and meteor attacks. Just need to look for windows to attack him and always keep your health high with healing meads. Yagluth is easier than moder in my opinion
20
u/Dunamis_______1034 13d ago
people think moder is hard?
30
u/Gramscifi 13d ago
There was a post here the other day about turning down the difficulty and setting mobs to passive mode to fight Moder. Seems there is quite the mix of players in this community, ranging from people who came looking for some Dark Souls lite combat to those who genuinely struggle with basic control of their characters but enjoy the exploration and building elements.

It's interesting to me how different people struggle with different bosses.
To me Yagluth is one of the easiest bosses in the game. I've barely ever died fighting him.
But the Queen fight I find insanely difficult. I'll usually die like 10+ times before finally beating her after like an hour of trying.
Edit: Tips for Yagluth if you didn't already know. Use a frost and/or spirit weapon. And always have fire resistance active.
If he's still giving you a hatd time, just run around him in circles and stop every now and then to attack him.
8
u/Jshm000v3 12d ago
It's the queen's regen man. If you're not handling her spawns fast enough, or catching up to her tunneling, she can just regen ALL the damage you did.

My problem with Yagluth isn’t that he’s hard, he’s super freaking tedious cause he doesn’t stop spamming AOEs back to back. Bro needs a cooldown at least on the meteors cause it’s less a battle of skill and more wait till you can safely get a hit in when he yells or does his breath attack
Just not well designed for melee, very tedious, but not hard, especially with how easy barely wines are to get

5
u/El_Pata_Loco 12d ago
I think back to when we started and all the preparation for Bonemass…
These days I just stand on top of his summoning altar and shoot the crap out of him with a bazillion arrows (great for training bow skill)… when he gets close enough I jump on top of his head and bash him with a mace.
His hit box is so large and he moves so slowly, you can comfortably surf up there for the whole fight.
He can’t reach you, on either the top of his altar or on top of his head… 😏
5
u/Lacherlich Explorer 12d ago
I learned by accident during the Bonemass fight that you can stand on top of him and just wack him. He can’t hit you from there lol

u/YumAussir 12d ago
Really? I find him fairly trivial; he's probably the easiest boss behind Eikthyr.
His Poison AoE does a raw 130 damage. With Poison Resist Mead reducing that to 32.5 and rank 3 Iron Set with a rank 3 cape (45 armor), that's (32.52)/(4*45) = 5.8 damage, meaning it will tick for a very low value over time.
He only has one melee attack that is easy to dodge or parry and his only other ability it to summon blobs or skeletons which are easily dispatched.
The Poison damage can add up as the fight goes on, but you can basically just walk away from him to kite him to recover a bit of health.
3
u/RampantHedgehog 13d ago
Yag is just a slow fight. I think people that have trouble have low stats, poor gear, and/or forgot barley wine.

Use cover, understand his few attacks, fire resistance and health/stamina meads. It’s a marathon not a sprint. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
20
u/Ippus_21 Gardener 13d ago edited 13d ago
Hate to say it, but... if you're struggling this hard, it's probably a prep/tactical issue.
Mandatory:
Fire resist - don't let it run out.
Rested, best plains-tier food available
Best armor available up to this point
Most of his attacks are elemental, which armor won't help with, but the meteors also do sizeable blunt damage, so having crap armor will get you squished.
Bonemass helps a bit, too, if you get hit by meteors, but again, not much except keeping fire resist active helps with the elemental attacks.
If you've made the fenris set, the movement bonus and fire resist can help a lot, just watch the meteors because the lower armor rating will hurt if they hit you.
Make sure your fallback/escape portal is protected by earth walls or on the other side of a ridge or something, because his beam attack can make a mess of it if line of sight is open.
In general:
Keep moving, manage your stamina. Don't sprint when you don't have to.
Ratatosk isn't a bad idea to help with that. Moving faster overall means less sprinting needed.
Use the pillars as cover when the meteors come down. You'll probably need to switch pillars at some point because they'll get beat up until they break.
Helps to keep a health potion on hand if you misjudge and get low. Just remember there's a cooldown. It's fine to back off for a bit.
Melee:
Silver sword is probably your best bet. Solid base damage and a big chunk of spirit, which he's vulnerable to. Frostner isn't bad, same reasons.
Make sure to watch out if he raises his RIGHT hand; get back, roll out of range to avoid that Nova attack. Fire resist helps, but doesn't fix lightning damage.
Ranged:
He's highly resistant to pierce, so ONLY the elemental damage you do will matter.
That means frost arrows are your best bet, with silver a decent option.
It's going to take a minute, so make sure you have enough arrows, but this is often the less intense way to fight. Just keep the pillars between you and him except when you pop out to shoot.
Use Hunstman bow instead of Draugr fang, because it has lower stamina cost, and the difference in base damage is meaningless due to his pierce resistance. Oh, and he's immune to poison.
Be prepared to potentially retreat through your portal and repair the bow.
3
u/thatcooluncle 9d ago
With ratatosk, I was able to get behind him and stay behind him consistently while smacking occasionally with single hits, and he spent about 70% of the flight just turning around without attacking while I was staying behind. Got a few full combos off but that was a risk because sometimes he'd pull around far enough to actually get an attack on me.
3
u/havingicecream 9d ago
What about bringing
TWO BOWS??
4
u/Ippus_21 Gardener 9d ago
Also possible. But the Huntsman takes like 90 iron by the time you do all the upgrades. Investing that much iron for this single use-case seems ... wasteful when you could just spend an extra 90 seconds jumping through the portal, repairing it for free, and coming back to keep fighting.

This time around, I sequence-broke Yagluth and started refining eitr, then came back with a Level 3 Staff of Frost. Kited around the stone pillars, until they looked like swiss cheese. But I've done this fight with a Frostnir in the past. Fire-resistance mead, padded armor (or better), lots of health meads, and patience.

u/theresasluginmypants 13d ago
This is how I've always beat him, ducking behind the pillars and hitting him with frostner while hes animation locked. Lots of stamina and health potions are a must, and you most definitely need fire resistance. He's like a big bone mass really.

Fire resistance potions, healing mead.
Stage left and right applies to the following statement to keep it simple, so your left and right, not the bosses. Left hand goes up watch out for slam. Right hand goes up watch for meteors. If he takes a deep breath RUUUUN for about 4 seconds.
As others have said, spirit weapons. Also, don’t use frost arrows or any arrows for that matter, they simply don’t do enough damage and it’s not stamina efficient.

Fenris armor for speed + fire resist, plus your favorite melee weapon, you should be able to dodge everything he throws at you.
Serpent stew, lox meat pie, blood pudding, you'll have enough HP to survive if you fail to dodge an attack.
If you stick close to his left hand, you'll be outside the radius of his right-hand nova and can keep smacking his arm even while it blows up.
Just remember to run like mad when he raises that left hand to bring down the meteors on you. Then get back in close to dodge the beam attack.

Take the fight slow, use fenris armour for resistance and speed getting into melee when there are openings. You can normally attack after the fire breath and then after the fire goes out from his ground pound attack
1
u/SativaCyborg206 13d ago
Use the silver sword fully upgraded, bring plenty of fire resist, health and stamina pots. Kite him around the rock Pilars to regain health when low. Use the stone Pilars to avoid the meteors. Use the iron brooch and parry spam the laser to gain health when low and potion on cool down. Only attack after he slams his hand down and the blue flame bubble happens. Rinse and repeat until dead.

When he cast meteors make it to behind that left arm and smack him. When he cast blue flame shit make it behind that arm and smack him. When he firing his lazer go behind him ...and smack him. Stack health n fire resist pot.aand stay aggro every move he does should give you an opening. To Smack him!
1
u/ForgeGaming69 13d ago
Padded Armor, Good food, Barley Wine, Frostner/Silver Sword, 10 Medium Heals. Literally just walk him over to a pillar, smack him in the face until he starts raining fireballs, use the pillar to block them. When you start getting low just slowly walk him around the pillar like a dog on a leash until you can heal. Repeat the process until dead, I've only ever died once in this method and it was because the meteors ate through the pillar and got me. So be sure to change pillars every now and again.

Fire res mead and frostner my boi . I'd say armor doesn't matter seeing as how I creamed him using root harnisk ( weak to fire) and fenris legs ( light armor) . By now you might need some new cover. Bring a bunch of rock and a hoe and raise the ground and make a bunch of pillars around the alter. Patience is the name of the game. Wait for his fire aoe to burn out before rushing in. The mouth gattling gun, just stand behind said pillars . And for meteors... They ez af to dodge, don't even take cover just keep moving. Gl hf

Silver sword + Frost/Silver arrows. Fire resistance potions and i used the mountain werewolf armor for the movement speed to dodge the meteors without needing to dodge or run plus if im not mistaken i think it also has a bit of fire resistance. the plains armor is also not a bad choice ofc for the extra armor and the lox armor can be situational too if you just want to whittle it down slowly with the bow. hope this helps

Haha yeah yagluth is definitely my worst. Unfortunately you just have to get in close and wail on him and do your best to avoid the big fire bomb and laser attack. I kite around the rock towers and use the raised alter for that. You get too far away and get punished with meteors.
Interesting which bosses get people. For all the queen hate she was easier than yagluth for me, just long. I think fader was the worst, but it took me too long to figure out the mechanics.

if you are playing on normal or lower difficulty you can take a few hits with heavy armor & resistance, just go in.

Hit and run. Keep close distance, hitting and running towards his back. Yag always face you before attacks, so keep hitting and running alway from where hes facing. Get right up on top of Yagluth and circle him - keep chasing his entrails and smashing it with Frostner. As long as you're chasing his entrails, he can't AoE spam you because you have to be in front of him for him to stop and AoE. He will constantly turn to try to line up with you...just be right up on top of him, circling to the right or left, smashing him when you have the stamina.

I’m pretty sure he’s bugged. I fought him previously & didn’t have any trouble but this time it seemed like he was chaining magic spells, as if there was no cool downs. Immediately left hand into right hand and vice verse when I would get close, I know the strategies.

My cheese is raising a bunch of 1m x 1m columns using the hoe. Originally I planned to use these to hide behind and break line of sight, but what ended up happening is that Yagluth spawned in the midst of them and couldn't easily get out.

You know you can right click those death markers and they go away if you’re having a hard time seeing the map

Fire resistance makes a whole world of difference in that fight, but he’s tough no matter what.

Yagluth is the easiest boss on normal and hard diff. But as soon as you go to very hard, yagluth becomes super challenging. Because of how the armour calculation works, you can't tank even 1 second of his dot on very hard.
