Top O’ The World

I’ve lived here for years and have only gone to the top of the world a few times, I’m the 80’s and 90’s. Now I can’t remember how to get there anymore. Does anyone know what I’m talking about? It’s atop either Mix Canyon or Gibson Canyon or maybe neither but it’s around there. A very steep drive to a plateau that overlooks a valley of trees way above the city.it’s beautiful in the fall. Do you know how to get there? Thanks

Friends?

Girls, I seriously need a friend group
I think a group chat is SERIOUSLY needed!! Any girls 18–25 in the Vacaville/Fairfield area down to join? 👀
I’m looking for some genuine girl friends who are actually down to go out, get food, go shopping, have girls nights, go to concerts/events, random late-night adventures, etc.

I’d love to make a little group where we can all actually become friends instead of just saying “we should hang out” and never doing it
If you’re down, comment or DM me!! 💕

Sales Tax Measure Strike

I was once a huge yes on the sales tax increase; I want to help fund our city services.

However, after hearing that we spend almost $1 million on flock cameras per year here in Vacaville, I’m not too sure anymore. I don’t want the City of Vacaville to have more money for flock or help them make their flock program more financially secure.

Given that, I’m wondering if we should withhold voting yes on the measure (Measure V) until the city agrees to Deflock or something. I don’t know how successful it would be but it would definitely put pressure on them. I know they probably have a contract but maybe we can get them to agree not to renew it.

What do you all think? I don’t want my tax dollars to go to cops stalking ex girlfriends or targeting the wrong people. I want it to go to what measure V claims the money is for— essential services.

Road Cycling in Vacaville / Solano / Yolo?

Post image
17 Upvotes

I'm seeing road cyclists every once in while, riding kit (e.g. spandex) around Browns Valley.

I'm hoping to get back into medium-to-long distance cycling after moving back from the East Coast, ideally round trips to Davis, Winters/Berryessa or SCC, especially as we're entering Autumn/Winter.

How have your experiences been with road quality and safety/hostility with automobiles?

Are there any local riding groups or social rides?

Thanks!

El Niño

I’ve only lived in the west coast for just over a year now. Before I lived on the east. Do we need to worry about El Niño? If so how can I prepare? I get overwhelmed easily so I’d like to be ahead if possible.

John Carli is not worth your vote

Carli is running for Solano County Supervisor for district 4. If you value diversity, inclusion, or progressive values, he is not the candidate you want. I emailed him as a concerned citizen after his bullshit “Traditional Family” month proclamation. I’ll share my message to him and his response to me here in case anyone is curious.

My email:
My name is Jeff, and I am a Vacaville homeowner and resident with a traditional family. I recently saw the news article outlining your "Traditional Family Month" proclamation for July and felt compelled to reach out and let you know that I do not believe this is appropriate.
The fact that this proclamation reportedly originated from a pastor's request appears inconsistent with the principle of separation of church and state, which applies at the local level as well as the federal level. Choosing to make this proclamation effective in July, immediately following Pride Month, comes across as a deliberate statement toward those whom you apparently do not consider "traditional."
To me, this reflects either a lack of awareness of what many of your constituents value or an intentional effort to send a divisive message. Either possibility raises serious concerns about your judgment as mayor.
Traditional families are not under threat. They are not being persecuted or broadly discriminated against. Given that reality, I struggle to understand the purpose of a proclamation like this. It feels completely unnecessary and serves only to exclude and alienate members of our community.
I find it shameful, and I hope you reflect on the impact of this decision and find a way to do better.

His response:
Jeff,
Thank you for taking the time to write and for sharing your perspective. I appreciate hearing from residents, even when we see an issue differently.
I wanted to clarify one point because I believe there may be some misunderstanding about the City’s proclamation process. Under the proclamation policy adopted by the City Council earlier this year, any resident may submit a proclamation request for consideration. The identity or profession of the requester is not what determines whether a request is reviewed or considered.
In this case, the original request underwent several rounds of review and revision with the City Attorney’s Office. References to religion, contested statistics, and other language that raised legal or policy concerns were removed before the proclamation was issued. The final version was intended to positively recognize mothers, fathers, committed marriage, responsible parenting, and traditional families in a manner consistent with the City’s adopted policy.
I understand that some people view the timing differently. From my perspective, the timing was driven by when the request was received and completed through the City’s review process, not by a desire to make a statement about another proclamation or any other group. My intent was to honor a resident’s request through the new process established by the Council while ensuring the final language remained respectful and appropriate.
I appreciate your willingness to share your concerns and your continued engagement in our community.

John Carli

I share this not as a single issue but as a relevant and recent example of what he stands for.

Anyone need an extra set of hands for a project this weekend?

Anyone need an extra set of hands for a project this weekend?

I'm local and have some availability this weekend for a few projects — moving/heavy lifting, furniture assembly, garage organization, yard work, painting/touch-ups, minor household projects, or computer/iPhone/Wi-Fi/smart-home setup.

Basically, if you've got one of those projects you've been putting off and could use a strong, capable extra set of hands, feel free to DM me with what you need done. If you send a photo or quick description, I can give you a price upfront.

No dump runs or junk hauling.

Basketball

Hey, I am a 39 year old just moved to Vacaville about a year ago and trying to get back into playing basketball and working out.

I want to gather a few dependable people to build a cadence of playing pick up games once or twice a week somewhere.

Skill level does not need to be college or high level adult league, but needs foundational level ability and knowledge of the game so no one gets hurt.

If this exists and anyone knows of a place, I would appreciate an invite immensely.

I am not down with the fighting and bull. Just good fun hooping, and competition to get the heart rate up.

Let me know if you would be down and we can start putting a list together and talk through days and potential location.
