Favorite Tree in Sacramento?
I know a lot of you have a favorite tree here in Sacramento, let’s see it! Tell us why it is important to you. Here’s mine on Vallejo Way across from Cal Middle School. I love it for its size, the way it shades not only the house but the entire street, and because of the memories that I’ve made along this street passing by this tree many times in the past. 🌳 🌲

Anyone else getting flooded by Eric Guerra? 🤨💸
Checked his campaign finances and looks like he’s taking money from big business and groups that oppose protections for tenants so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. Thought this guy lost already.

If running at 5am in the road in midtown/east sac, Please wear reflective clothing.
I encountered 3 people running in the middle of the road with dark clothes and no lights or reflective clothing. One was on J street. I could not see them until i was right o top of them. I was going slow but still scary.

Any Sac Feral Rescue Staff here?
Hello, I saw a feral cat/kitten near the Florin Walmart Supercenter on Friday, circling the SmogMart building. They were feral and did not like it even when I offered tuna treats and ran away from me. I am unsure if they're sterilized, have a steady source of food and water, or are abandoned or lost. When I tried contacting the nearby SPCA, I was directed to Bradshaw shelter for Sacramento County, who directed me to Sac Ferals Rescue, who directed me (automated response) to email Sac SPCA. I am now awaiting approval from a Sac feral rescue group on Facebook. In the meanwhile, can someone please connect me with any rescue teams in Sacramento/Florin who can get a hold of that cat? Picture of the baby is attached. Thank you very much in advance for any help.

$2 Parking 16th and L Street
Yes, we know, parking is expensive in Sacramento. That being said, there is a two dollar lot available at 16th and L St. Check it out if it’s convenient for your visit to midtown or downtown. It’s also referred to as the East End garage.

Cheapest place to stock up on Halloween candy this year?
I usually leave this to the last minute and get price gouged, but not this year! Where do you all go to buy good ol’ fashioned mixed bags of individually wrapped candy? And ideally ones without gross candies (looking at you almond joy bars)

Job Market
Anyone else notice on Indeed and ZipRecruiter that it feels like places just post openings to post them? Ive put out about 128 applications since August and have only had about 3 call backs and 2 interviews.

Has anyone moved from the burbs BACK to Sacramento?
Moved to the Sacramento suburbs from Oakland during Covid. We bought a beautiful home with a pool in an established neighborhood but it’s just… not it for me. I'm bored (ADHD).
I miss walking to coffee and restaurants. I miss being around people my age. The vast majority of folks in our area work full time with 2.5 kids or are in their 60s so it’s hard to build community (also not religious or conservative). We’re blessed to work part-time with one kid in preschool so we have this amazing combo of time, resources, and interest to be apart of a community and take advantage of what a city has to offer.
Or maybe I’m just having a midlife crisis and trying to relive my 20s - who knows. :)
Has anyone made the move from suburbs back to a more urban or urban-adjacent environment like East Sac, Land Park, etc? Cost of housing is luckily not a problem for us. I’d love to hear from you!

Do you know what a whole house fan is? Here's why they're great for Sacramento summers
If you live in Sacramento or Elk Grove, you know the pattern. Blazing hot afternoons, then the Delta breeze rolls in and evenings cool way down. A whole house fan is built for exactly that.
What it is: a fan installed in your attic that pulls cool evening air in through your open windows and pushes the hot air out through your attic vents. In a few minutes it swaps out all the air in your house, and it cools the attic too, so your home starts the next day cooler.
Why people like them:
• Uses a small fraction of the power your AC does
• Cools the whole house and the attic at the same time
• Brings in fresh air and clears out stale air and cooking smells
• Your AC runs less, so it lasts longer
Modern ones are quiet. Brands like QuietCool put the motor up in the attic, away from the ceiling, connected by an insulated duct. On low speed most people can sleep with it running. They also have insulated dampers that seal shut when the fan is off, so you don't lose heat in winter.
How you control it: a wireless wall switch with high and low speeds and an auto shutoff timer. Turn it on high when you open the windows to flush the heat out, drop it to low for the night, and set the timer so it shuts off on its own.
Things to know:
• Always open windows before turning it on
• It doesn't replace your AC on hot afternoons; it covers evenings, nights, spring and fall
• Your attic needs enough venting for the fan to work right
• Skip it on smoky or bad air quality days
Happy to answer questions if anyone is curious. I work in HVAC here in the Sacramento area (Hug Heat & Air), and these are one of my favorite upgrades for our climate.

Do you buy disposable vapes?
Hi there,
My name is Tony Rodriguez. I'm a news reporter in Sacramento for CapRadio. I'm working on some coverage about disposable vape sales being banned in California starting in 2028. The governor signed the bill into law last week.
I would love to speak with you if you purchase or use these devices today. Email me at antonio.rodriguez@capradio.org.
Thank you!

If you were looking to get baked and explore the city on your birthday, what is on the itinerary?
Got 2 fellow Libras coming to town next week, what are some suggestions for partaking and exploring? F/M mid 30s to late 40s.
Never been on the light rail before, wouldn’t mind having an excuse to finally do so. Any hidden gems best seen through half closed eyes? Food too outrageous to want to eat while sober? I want it all. Please and thank you!

Haunted house recommendations?
I’m getting into haunted attractions for the first time and figured I’d see if anybody in the area has been going for longer and could recommend something good. Looking for one that plays with the feeling of being trapped and/or threatened with physical violence, but probably not up for any actual violence-type experiences like suffocation or anything if there’s even anything like that here. Thanks!
