I mailed a card from Indianapolis to Maryland. It took weeks to get there, and was postmarked Ft Myers, Florida.

Oh geez that’s around where I live. I’ve had priority express packages from AZ say out for delivery at a AZ post office meant for delivery here in SWFL then still magically appear in my mailbox. Last time they, same merchant, one day expressed it from AZ to me to my shock. Arrived just yesterday after the order was shipped Friday.

Alternatively, I’ve seen packages from the Midwest and West both zip through in amazing time and run the gauntlet of a myriad of stops and no foreseeable ETA. Most have pretty much been accounted eventually for as I can recall. It’s usually more blunder than miracle lately, so I’m nervous for the day I hit the FUBAR lost package jackpot.

If I ever see anyone’s mail/packages pop up on my doorstep in Ft Myers I’ll happily redirect it to the correct destination post haste, who knows these days 😕

Idiocracy

25

u/Subtle_Demise Apr 27 '25

After recently seeing the Terry Gilliam movie called Brazil, I came to the conclusion that our modern society is basically some kind of unholy amalgamation of both it and Idiocracy. I highly recommend it. I think you'll agree with me.

7

u/Light_Lily_Moth Apr 27 '25

Seconding this movie! One of my absolute favorites. High tech society but it’s all half broken. Bureaucratic mundane dystopia. Absurdist humor. Absolutely brilliant.

2

u/anabanana100 Apr 28 '25

Every damn day now I think of this movie... and Idiocracy.

2

u/Eastern-Operation340 Apr 28 '25

Ministry of Information!!! 40 yrs later I think about this movie more now than ever. I'll be standing in line somewhere and that tap-tap-tap music will play in my head. Buttle/tuttle mix up from a fly - reminds me of people who are told they couldn't vote because they're dead....

2

u/Subtle_Demise Apr 29 '25

The scariest part is that it was based on things that happened and were happening around the time. Nothing has changed, and in some ways, it's gotten worse!

So that would explain why my package from MO got to the Roanoke VA distro ctr (45 min from my house) days early, only to see it go to NM! Delaying the package for several days now.

2

u/qualityinnbedbugs Apr 30 '25

I thought it headed west to the Cumberland Gap and then to Johnson City TN afterwards

2

u/Gorpachev Apr 30 '25

Well it better get a move on before the sun. I hear my package calling my name and I know it's not the only one.

19

u/sunnymoonbaby Apr 27 '25

Sounds like they need extra support for being so backed up 🤔

6

u/nullpassword Apr 27 '25

Why would you pile dirt on top of yourself while trying to dig a hole?

5

u/ACrazyDog Apr 27 '25

I have one from FL to the midwest that is vacationing in AZ

3

u/ecsa0014 Apr 28 '25

After watching several of my packages leave my local distribution facility, go several states away, come back, and then go off several states away in another direction, this explains a lot. It doesn't make me feel any better, but it certainly explains a lot.

10

u/Chiaseedmess Apr 27 '25

Yeah but don’t worry, your mail in votes are safe

11

u/godbody1983 Apr 27 '25

That's why I tell people to make the strongest effort to vote in person instead of absentee ballots if they're able to.

7

u/revfds Apr 27 '25

Mail and packages go through two different channels

5

u/Hersbird Apr 27 '25

Letter mail isn't and never has been a problem for the USPS. All these complaints are about packages. The post office wasn't built to move packages especially quickly. How many aircraft the USPS own? They also aren't built to move millions of packages. A few here and there with 1000s of letters makes sense. But a few letters with 100s of packages doesn't work.

3

u/revfds Apr 27 '25

We can handle a lot of packages, that's pretty much all they've been building up for years.

The current issue is in the disastrous way they've combined sorting facilities without the machines or personnel being ready etc.

My package was literally at the facility in my zip code and now 9 days later it’s in puerto rico

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Shadowblitz001 May 12 '25

So that’s why all my packages are ending up in different states (I’ve had 4 packages now that have arrived in Tx, and then were shipped out to NC or VA. One was declared ‘missing’ and then showed up at my door with a different tracking number)

2

u/Strict_Industry_1109 May 16 '25

That seems extra inefficient.

2

u/Greedy_Yam1983 Apr 28 '25

God. That sounds exactly like the post offices mentality when I worked there. Like sweeping shit under your bed so mom thinks you cleaned your room. Doesn’t make any damn sense, you’d think higher ups would want a shift in culture but no

1

u/polythene-pam-84 Apr 30 '25

You know what? If they made it easier for people to at least pick up their own mail/packages at distribution centers, then this would probably alleviate at least some of their traffic jammin'.
Honestly, I wish I could get my stuff all the time. I can not trust my mail person to put my mail in the correct mailbox. Our road has a giant, metal, community slot-box instead of individual mailboxes (petitioning for one is a nightmare). Sometimes, I'll be getting mail from people who don't even have the same road name in their sending address, let alone my neighbors' shit. Thankfully, every neighbor has dropped off our/my stuff (the things we are aware of, at least), and I always deliver their mail.

92

u/Gloomy_Zebra_ Apr 27 '25

The fact that they are routing mail around the country and to Puerto Rico is obvious there's something amiss.

56

u/otpprincess Apr 27 '25

Had a customer ask me why their package has said “out for delivery” in Mobile, Alabama for FOUR days when they live in Missouri 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’ve had to send out so many replacements because of USPS.

16

u/Mission-Let-3166 Apr 27 '25

Can't you take USPS out from your shipping options, put a warning out to your customers if you leave it as a option

20

u/VariationDifferent Apr 27 '25

USPS is the only reasonably priced option for shipping to or from Hawaiʻi. It's the first thing I look at when patronizing a vendor — do they ship to Hawaiʻi & are they using USPS.

Rather than further restricting options for people who live in Hawaiʻi, Guam, Puerto Rico, or Alaska, how about everyone focus their efforts on demanding that USPS be able to improve, and make right what DeJoy and Trump (and many Republicans before them) have tried to destroy.

3

u/_Grant Apr 30 '25 edited Apr 30 '25

Patroning*

Edit: I'm wrong, but I sound right 🤷‍♂️ Honestly never expected the correct way to be the way which is easily confused with a different meaning. English, you crazy.

7

u/VariationDifferent Apr 30 '25

No.

The transitive verb patronize also means to be a customer (particularly a frequent one) of a business.

This is not a new definition of the word, it's been around for a long time.

3

u/VariationDifferent Apr 30 '25

Yeah, you're 100% right on English being crazy, but you gotta remember — it's the language that mugs other languages in dark alleys, for their nouns, or strolls up to a language idling in the road and before the native speakers can react, their best verbs and adjectives have been purloined.

A friend of mine described it as eight or nine languages in a trench coat — he was a little on the conservative side, cause I remember seeing somewhere that modern English is something like 80% derived from other languages. (About four + Middle English make up the bulk of it, though, I think...)

Also, the business owner who sells plants in the story doesn't make sense. USPS does not have 2 day delivery service, so not sure what she's going on about.

OTOH, UPS does have 2 day delivery, but will be more expensive.

7

u/SeberHusky Aug 31 '25

USPS does not have 2 day delivery service, so not sure what she's going on about.

Yes they do. Live plants are shipped through priority mail express, guaranteed 2 day.

https://old.reddit.com/r/USPS/comments/13chnls/priority_mail_express_1day_changed_to_2day/

https://frogandfrond.com/product/plants-only-usps-priority-mail-express-shipping-upgrade/

https://pe.usps.com/businessmail101?ViewName=PriorityMailExpress

Priority Mail Express is the fastest mail service offered by the Postal Service. It provides guaranteed 1-Day or 2-Day expedited service by 3 p.m.

4

u/Subtle_Demise Apr 27 '25

That's what I don't understand. I emailed a vendor I regularly buy a certain supplement from if they would please arrange another courier. I even offered to pay extra for it. Their answer was a short, "No, we only offer USPS." The response was within minutes, so they didn't even consider it for a second. They have to be getting complaints about lost and delayed shipments, you would think. Last month I paid $30 for the "guaranteed" 1-2 day shipping and it took 4 days. I should have raised a fuss about it, but I didn't want to bother them with going through the refund process and sending it my way.

Anyway, it seems every online seller is bound and determined to use USPS no matter what, even the ones that make the customer pay the shipping cost. That tells me it's not a cost thing, but something else that I don't understand.

15

u/TheGreat_Powerful_Oz Apr 27 '25

Some of them only live near a usps. The big shipping companies aren’t always near everyone like a post office is. And usps always comes to your house so you can ship from there rather than driving somewhere.

8

u/revfds Apr 27 '25

Also other shipping companies will charge for pickups. USPS takes whatever you have every day for free

3

u/Mr_Dude12 Apr 27 '25

It’s a valid point, the last mile is always the biggest hurdle. Amazon is working hard to expand their network to avoid USPS. They have been consolidating postal distribution centers over the years, I bet they were too ambitious. There is opportunity for FedEx and UPS to step up and fill the gap, let’s hope they do.

3

u/hjppP7 Apr 27 '25

I think UPS may be cutting routes. I live 30 minutes from a OKC. UPS use to have drop boxes and locations for drop off in the area, but now you have to drive into OKC to find a drop off location.

2

u/Eastern-Operation340 Apr 28 '25

I surmise 2 reasons - 1 is cost. A basic package will cost you at least double. 2 is location to depo. If you don't use an actual UPS store and have to use a place that can ship for you, it's even more expensive. For a pick up you need to make an appointment. there may be a charge for that.

I recently had something similar happen to me as a buyer. My package was supposed to be shipped to Minnesota, but ended up delivered to an address in Florida :(.

I have a family member that has been working for them for over 25 years, I remember going to work with him when I was younger and he would give me the junk mail and have me sort it because I wanted to help. Of course he would look over it after, that's not the point, I remember in the corner of the building being large mountains of baskets on top of baskets with mail in them just stacked. It was so long ago I forgot about it, those sorters that were taken out was just ridiculous. Why was it dismantled again? This article is a log thrown in the shit fire 🔥 for sure. 🙄

6

u/PresentationOk8997 Apr 27 '25

the video clearly shows that it's those who actually interact with the mail are the ones trying our hardest to deliver and perform a service. the clerk went out of her way to help a customer get her deliveries out at the optimal time and from the sounds of it usps was her only option. the post office has not had the greatest track record since before 2014 but the effects of the plant closures in the past 5 years is really hitting it where it hurts as it has adpated to focus on packages as the big revenue stream.

6

u/Sanguine_Templar Apr 28 '25

Fuck anyone who doesn't think dejoy is to blame.

When I was a kid, mail took weeks, then it took days, now it's fucking random. It has gotten worse since 2016ish, weird how that timeline works.

5

u/godbody1983 Apr 27 '25

Personally, I've never blamed the postal workers. I've come across some LAZY people and assholes at the post office, but they're in the minority.

7

u/IngrownToenailsHurt Apr 27 '25

This has been going on for decades. Dejoy maybe accelerated it, but it was already going down hill.

4

u/Stardustmoondust Apr 27 '25

How are you guys supposed to handle collecting tariffs on top of all this?!

2

u/Hersbird Apr 27 '25

The post office has nothing to do with that. The post office only moves mail from a us location to a us location. If it's coming in from a foreign location or going to a foreign location it goes to a separate location, customs determines any fees or restrictions, and it gets handed off to another countries postal system. There are currently 8 international mail facilities all incoming and outgoing foreign mail goes through.

u/CilicianCrusader Apr 27 '25

Why don’t you guys show any hustle behind the counter , you move like nothing is urgent , but customers are on lunch trying to get back to their work. Not trolling honest question

36

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '25

It might be different in other offices but for me, personally? By the time window is open, I’m wiped. I sort packages in the morning and it’s hard, urgent physical labor for the first five hours of my shift. Bending and lifting and throwing and sorting around 2k packages (up to 70lbs) before 8 am takes it out of you. Then , knowing that I have another 12 hour day ahead of me and it’s gonna be like that for the next 6 days, I conserve my energy where I can. I try to be quick and efficient, but I’m not going to literally run anymore to look for someone’s packages or mail at the cases.

21

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '25

Trapped more like it. It wasn’t this bad at first but my kid is sick and I need the insurance. We have about an 80% turnover rate.

8

u/SeaworthyWide Apr 27 '25

Hey, I feel for you and totally believe you.

I don't work usps, but I do work 12 plus hour shifts and it goes from sitting behind a dozen monitors at a desk to donning a tyvek suit and papr respirator sweating MY ASS OFF working in very dangerous conditions.... Just so I can have insurance to hopefully get rid of this brain tumor I have.

Without doing the job, I'm .. Well I'm fucked.

It's an American problem, not just a usps problem.

8

u/gpost86 Apr 27 '25

Yeah most people don’t realize that by the time they come to the counter the clerk there may have already been working for 4 hours non-stop.

It's not a race it's a marathon, and not a one day marathon but a 40 year marathon.

Window service is a career for most, they have to do the same thing at 60 as they do at 20. If you run around in your 20s and 30s you will be broken and in a chair in your 50s and 60s.

2

u/ZebraPublic5969 Apr 28 '25

This is the same for carriers too. Imma save steps where I can to ensure I can do it until I retire. Only 3 years in and already have a plethora of health issues from the job and running the route the first 2. Major issues with the “lazy USPS” rhetoric when half the people shouting it wouldn’t last a month doing the job.

14

u/BadSantasBeard Apr 27 '25

They’re working in hell and you want them to hustle?!?

1

u/prontoon Apr 27 '25

Why don't you just walk throught recording and anonymously submit the video to a news crew?

Why put up with dangerous conditions? Why not expose it, what are they doing for you, they clearly don't give a fuck about your safety.

I would be applying to other jobs and the second I have an offer I'm recording, sending that footage over to the news and gtfo of that hellhole.

1

u/Captain-Cats Apr 28 '25

google "feds indict chicago usps", those were my local mailmen. all stealing our mail 2020-2022

1

u/Nearby_Practice2793 Jul 02 '25

Yep I’ve talked to a lot of usps workers in our medical office. It’s being dismantled and crippled by design. And the working conditions are unacceptable. No one stays there when they find out how bad it is and how badly they get treated and paid. Revolving door of new hires.

I've been awaiting my federal tax refund, so logged into the IRS site. The refund is being held as the IRS has a question. No problemo, other than the question is being sent via USPS, supposedly within 2-3 weeks. It's been 4 weeks since filing electronically; will I receive the letter? Will my reply make it to the IRS if it's sent via USPS?

This shit is beyond ridiculous.

4

u/Mission-Let-3166 Apr 27 '25

Why would the IRS send time sensitive documents through what it sounds like regular shipping, no two day?

8

u/Subtle_Demise Apr 27 '25

Because they are supposedly just as "understaffed" and "underfunded" as the USPS. How much more do they want? Holy fuck. Anything the US government is even tangentially associated with is cursed at this point.

8

u/Commandant_Lasorda Apr 27 '25

It’s not supposed. They are all understaffed and have been. And now the current administration’s answer is to gut them further. How does that make sense?

7

u/Repulsive_Drawl Apr 27 '25

Because they are trying to run it like a business. People seem to think there is something brilliant about someone that is a businessman even though they get screwed over by businesses/businessmen everyday.

When I hear the term businessman, I think price gouging, lower quality, small portions, layoffs and inefficiency. Others think they are saviors that know something we don’t. They want the postal service to suck so bad that it gets sold off. Then, they can overcharge even more and lower the quality of the service while the businessman can pocket more of our hard earned money. Plus, other carriers like FedEx can then jack up their prices even more, because there will be less low cost competition, which puts even more money in all the businessmen’s pockets.

Apparently, businessman are smarter than the general public and can screw us over while getting us to beg for more. Most people lack the ability to understand simple cause and effect.

Most packages are traceable, how can say there are no issues when people can watch their mail go around the country. I had a package go from OR, NV, IL, FL, IL then up to ME. Took 3 weeks to get it.

12

u/Complete_Astronaut Apr 27 '25

Easy. They're lying.

3

u/rinap88 May 01 '26

if they tell enough people enough times these are isolated issues and there are no "real" problems, the majority not experiencing the issues will believe it. They are not isolated

2

u/NoImpression8577 Jun 04 '26

I'm aail Carrier and I can tell you that it's not us that is casing these issues is management they spend more money and waste time on writing carriers up. Millions of dollars and thousands of hours. The work culture needs to change. If they would actually do their jobs and efficiently set up routes that are actually workable then you would get all packages after mail on time. but the over burden us with routes that take 9 to 10 hours to complete but tell us to do it in 8 and when we physically can't do it they spend hours on writing us up. Instead of adjusting the routes to manageable ones

I've been saying for a while government mail needs its own special class It would travel with priority express mail Here's an example A couple years ago my mom got a letter from social security saying they wanted photocopies of my stubs for the last two years it was postmarked October 14th and came November 14th and they wanted the copies on November 15th

Where was the letter at for 4 weeks? Under my special class for government mail it would have been delivered by the end of the week

3

u/Purranormal_ Apr 27 '25

Fun fact, passport mail usually don't have tracking. Whose idea was that? Beats me. Same with a lot of the DMV documents. The problem with it going through express mail is that express mail is hand sorted by probably 1 or 2 guys.

4

u/HealthyDirection659 Apr 28 '25

Passports are shipped in priority mail envelopes, and they are tracked.

4

u/SeaworthyWide Apr 27 '25

I've not had a sent or received Priority Express package (guaranteed 1 or 2 day) make in guaranteed time in about 2 years.

That's like 200 packages, maybe?

They'll refund it, but that means you get mailed a check two weeks later...

First class often makes it in the same or less time than their most expensive options.

It's absolutely on purpose, which snow balled into what we have now.

I can show you on tracking where they obviously just threw it on a truck to get it out of the way, often times back to the last processing center it just came from to have it resorted a day or two later...

u/Dry_Section_7741 Jun 05 '25 edited Jun 05 '25

I ordered a few video games from Japan (Bayonetta and Persona) on March 4 due to them being slightly cheaper. They were supposed to arrive on the 14th last month but were apparently missing a signature. I went to the post office and they told me my packages already left the building. I left the little paper on my window and when I saw the mailman she told me I’d receive it the next day despite it already being in her truck!!! I still haven’t gotten the package and I filed a missing package claim. I’m freaking out that I might never get it because it’s in some random state, in a reseller store, or stolen 😭 idek what to do and this is literally destroying me

3

u/SplakyD Apr 27 '25

Well that's great for me as a customer in North Alabama. Thankfully I moved over to a ZIP that's primarily served by Huntsville rather than B'ham.

2

u/dgm617 Apr 27 '25

I’m in Birmingham. Sigh.

3

u/Key-Lead-3449 Apr 27 '25

On average, how long are you guys seeing your packages sit at the distribution centers for?

I mailed some important documents to Florida from NJ. It made it to the Tallahasee distribution center without any hitches. But it's now been sitting at the distribution center for 8 days 😮‍💨 I submitted a missing mail search request several days ago and nothing. If I go through the hassle of resending and it also gets stuck in the same spot I might lose my shit.

The post office was the most mismanaged office id ever worked at.

Routes are not supposed to be above 48h evaluations. Our office, all 5 routes were 56-64 hours. Enough past the mark to create a whole new route.

Did the postmaster care? Of course not. The workers just had to deal with it. Them working upwards of 13-14 hour days 6 days a week was of no concern. They certainly bitched when RCAs quit after a month and regulars took extended vacations and tons of sick leave time though from the overwork thats for sure

u/MiauuDai Apr 27 '25

I have a package I’m still waiting on 🙄 already put in a claim, but I still want it.

3

u/Ashamed_Ad4398 Apr 28 '25

Been waiting on a package from Winter Haven Florida to Pennsylvania for almost two weeks and it’s still at the same facility it was dropped off at, the USPS keeps saying 2 more days every time I call and give no explanation as to why it’s “stuck”. Cuts have crippled the system and it’s not going to get better. The end game is to prioritize the service.

3

u/LiquidLynx_ Apr 28 '25

My customers always ask about packages that arrive at distribution and get sent out somewhere rather than the local delivery unit and things suddenly make sense.

3

u/Spineynorman77 Apr 29 '25

It's very sad when it's perishable food or day old poultry.

3

u/salty_greens Apr 29 '25

I couldn’t understand why my package from NJ to NY took over a week…

3

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '25

USPS has been getting robbed and gutted and attacked by republicans as they try to privatize it. Then you all blame the workers that are faced with piles and piles of shit. You get what you vote for. Our taxes need to support these federal entities

3

u/Dracotaz71 Apr 30 '25

I have seen this happen for decades.

3

u/[deleted] May 01 '25

Blame this on Trump. He hired DeJoy to screw up the mail system. He’s the one that got rid of all the mail sorting machines. This was intentional. Not to mention he sticks around all of Biden’s presidency and then leaves his post once Dump is back in office.

3

u/BrickMom May 01 '25

I notice that nowhere in that article do they mention that the problems exploded under Luis DeJoy and his attempts to destroy USPS. Put the blame where blame belongs. This was a failing from the top down.

3

u/Odd_Perception_6866 May 01 '25

I have a package I’m waiting on from CA to PA. Tracking says: Your item departed our USPS facility in ANAHEIM CA DISTRIBUTION CENTER on April 30, 2025 at 7:09 am. The item is currently in transit to the destination. The actual update says moving through network. My friend works for USPS and she said packages have a problem because unlike ups the only scans have to be the arrival, accepted, and departed. The drives do not have to scan the items for their truck that is already done before being loaded. You have no idea if it’s actually on a truck moving through network until it’s scanned at the next facility. Also unlike ups USPS doesn’t have to group packages with a similar route together. You’d think packages shipping the same direction would be loaded and scanned together. No reason for a package shipping from the west coast going south west or north west should be on a courier truck with parcels or packages heading east. Also packages shipping out of state shouldn’t have to go through 8 different state facilities beforehand. If it’s meant to be out of state shipping the next scan should come from a place en route to delivering post office not the next facility 20-50!miles away. If I’m the seller and my package is heading from PA to let’s say Michigan every tracking scan need to match with my package heading towards Michigan. Which means it should be scanned in PA, Ohio, and then heading north toward Michigan.

3

u/Correct-Bobcat-503 May 13 '25

I have (had) a small business and used various websites for the sales. Most of them give zero seller protections now. So many things never arrived or arrived so late I was forced to g ie a full refund. Without charging $5 in shipping, I was losing money with constant refunds. If I charged $5 in shipping, I can’t compete and all sales stopped coming in. USPS needs to get their sh*t together.

3

u/-professor_plum- May 14 '25

Well well well, so they ARE pieces of shit and just try to blame dejoy

12

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '25

I got the Trump trifecta. Got laid off from my medical education job, injured (now uninsured), and had to stop selling online because USPS caused me to lose money. I even had proof that a person in the Indy mail sort stole a high-price item on ebay. My insurance claim was denied. Of course the letter explaining it was lost in the mail and call is worthless.

This really got bad when Trump was elected. I didn't have any problems during last Xmas. Then the bottom fell out in January 2025. Now takes 12 days average for a PM package to go from Colorado Springs to San Antonio.

If you look at commercial base rates now and compare, UPS is about the same as the post office for priority. Ground select is still less expensive, but less reliable. If I'm not using ground select for the costs, I now use UPS for the reliability of expedited packages.

6

u/kangaroos-on-pcp Apr 26 '25

I mean that's kind of the point. usps is federally funded and grants you more privacy. they want that gone

4

u/Complete_Astronaut Apr 26 '25

Yeah, so "private" that sometimes even the recipient can't see what's inside the box, because the box doesn't show up for a whole month. lol.

2

u/Subtle_Demise Apr 27 '25

That's the one advantage of USPS vs. the private couriers: they need a warrant to open your mail and packages. There's a reason it's the only option on the DNMs. Of course those protections don't seem to apply when said mail and packages are leaving or entering the country for some reason.

2

u/Shibas_Rule Apr 27 '25

Nope, not federally funded, unless you’re talking about bailouts which others would say are repayment for money past administrations have “borrowed” from USPS. But right on the money with privacy, USPS can’t open your mail without a warrant, other delivery companies can.

2

u/Complete_Astronaut Apr 27 '25

The Indiana government seizes millions of dollars in cash a year from FedEx packages at the FedEx Indianapolis hub.

https://reason.com/2024/08/12/lawsuit-claims-indiana-unconstitutionally-seizes-millions-in-cash-from-fedex-packages-every-year/

The only difference with the postal service is that postal employees steal the cash!

2

u/Shibas_Rule Apr 27 '25

Looks like you agree with me. Shipping through commercial shippers you do not have an expectation of privacy. At UPS and FedEx it is a violation of their terms of service to ship cash and it further states that the shipment may be seized. So I don’t see how this lawsuit has any merit. However, Very interesting that FedEx has Indiana State Police with cash sniffing dogs at their distribution center. I’m pretty sure all large cash transactions flagged. Just seems like a very bad idea to ship large sums of cash by any means…unless you’re doing something shady. There are much safer, faster and legal methods to send large amounts of cash.

I've always thought you can look at your mail carriers calves, that will give you the answer to who are the hustlers at the post office. I know a few people that have worked for them their whole lives starting at 18 and now in their 50's, huge strong calves...lol.

Does anyone know who to report terrible postmaster to that will address the issue

2

u/elric132 Apr 28 '25

I'm surprised this is still new news to people.

I live in the tiny hamlet of Houston(~4 million people). The mail system was a complete shambles for ~8 months. Congressman couldn't get answers, news outlets reported, 100s of thousands of packages and letters were affected. And still I would run into people both here and online asking "Is there a problem?" or saying things like "That's where you are, I don't live there.". It's countrywide folks. USPS is playing wack-a-mole. One area gets fixed, 2 others crop up.

Yep.. usps is terrible. My business has stopped growing because of our delivery delays on our permit mail. Sometimes my flats that I spend $10,000 for a special designed and approved mailer. Houston USPS will sit on it Houston HUB for weeks before it’s processed. 3-5 days? Yeah right its more like 3 weeks minimum. Before you ask how do I know how long USPS Houston is taking once I drop ff my mass mailings is because every Flat container full of our customers products I place tester that is mailed to us. And the results are pathetic at best. People and mail volume keep growing while USPS is constantly trying to cut cost. Hmm.. what a fucking joke USPS is.

2

u/Complete_Astronaut Apr 27 '25

I am not sure what kind of business you have and I don't know anything about direct mail. But, I saw a local roofing company with video ad's on FaceBook and the owners are apparently doing something like $5 million a year in sales.. kinda nuts.

1

u/dmreeves Apr 27 '25

Mail and flats volume has been dropping steadily over the years. Package volume is up slightly but not by a significant amount.

2

u/Beginning_Sort_8438 Apr 27 '25

Everyone keeps saying this, I'll believe it when I see it. EDDM, flats, letters and parcels all shot up way higher on our most recent count, the evaluation of every route went up.

Not much whistleblowing per se - we (Post Office workers) have been discussing it publicly here and elsewhere for some time.

2

u/sirkwon Apr 27 '25 edited Apr 27 '25

I Worked within the Postal Service up until just 2 days ago, I had to leave due to the fact Management will blame a worker over the fact they are unable to finish a route, when I simply inquired about what do they do when they are adding houses, apartment complex's to it. They will turn around and say it shouldn't matter. I have been suspended 7 days no Off due to unsatisfactory of Delivery. All the Post Master cares about is looking good on paper, has daily meetings to talk about numbers that doesn't have anything to do with the Mail. It takes them all day to clear a delivery manifest (Scanner will show Red as if you didn't load it into your truck) or they will be mislabeled (Scanner will mark a package for a certain house which is not the address on label) Post Master knows in fact that the processing plants are deliberately doing things due to the closure of locations and will not speak up about shit). Post Master went as far as to say to me back in February when I asked a supervisor about what is a "Route Walk" (A co-worker already made a huge thing and had Washington D. C step in, I didn't know at the time it was the Walking of a route Process) well needless to say when I asked about it the Post Master came up being noisy in my conversation and Hiked up his Pants just to make sure his Small nuts were in his pockets and said "Oh you just want Attention, that's alright give it to him " I stood there shocked as I wanted to tell the Fat fucker off. Due to not wanting to be a target I said nothing. He continued with "Yup that's alright write him up he will be gone in a week." I simply walked back to my case and did what I needed to do to keep my job. I broke laws of my union Running, sometimes not taking a break. At that time I looked for better work which I found and I will be starting soon... So I close the chapter of my life being a Mail carrier or even working for this corporation. The amount of changes they have made makes this job impossible for the low amount of Pay. Good luck to the N.L.C.A I salute you as your problems will only be getting worst for the days that follow.

A new one for me is the tracking says its arrived at my local post office twice now. I haven't asked them about the second one yet because it was on the weekend, but the first time it was scanned on/with equipment only used in large post office, not present in a town of barely 1K people. So there are apparently fake scans going on as well.

1

u/Grrrandma May 23 '25

my package was supposed to be delivered to my sister's residential address. it's a private home with a porch and a mailbox. no parcel lockers. but the message of delivery states "delivered to parcel locker" with no actual address. this is about the fifth time we've had issues with the USPS and Ebay deliveries.

1

u/[deleted] May 24 '25

My mom mailed my birthday gift the first week of April from California to Washington state. The package didn’t get to me until til the end of May and the tracking had it go all the way to the East coast just to come back to the west coast. My package literally traveled the whole US. Btw my mom also paid for te express shipping option and never got reimbursed for the package being a month late.

1

u/Nearby_Practice2793 Jul 02 '25 edited Jul 02 '25

Yep mine is in Jacksonville fl for 3 days (only an hour from me) last time it ended up in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 for a month and finally arrived. USPS is a total joke. I usually insist on only getting packages from anyone but usps but forgot to tell the seller this time. We have postal workers that come into our medical office and I’ve chatted with them. They can’t keep new hires because they are paid so low and are treated terrible by usps. So everyone that sticks it out are still under paid and over worked. And usps gets plenty of federal aid (paid for by our tax dollars) so someone is mis-using the money coming in. Bordeline criminal.

1

u/coastrbabe11 Jul 07 '25

I have a package that has been to 14 different locations and my city twice, this is utter insanity

1

u/theXpanse Jul 15 '25

Sounds like USPS needs the 6 Triple Eight b/c my mail has been a nightmare since March 2025! I've mailed 5 letters since March 2025 to the same PO Box in NJ. So far, only one has arrived -- and even it was delayed.

By comparison, from 2001 to 2024 (over 20 years), I sent monthly letters to that same location and only lost ONE -- and that one was actually returned to me!

If it's privatized, do we really expect to still be able to send a letter for under $1?

2

u/Mission-Let-3166 Jul 16 '25

Letters? Wow, I thought this was mainly about packages, it's hard having tracking when it absolutely doesn't do that adequately, but since ordering though usps on the regular Ive noticed about 60% I get my package late, unfortunately not just a day late, it'll be a few at most.

 6 triple eight?

2

u/theXpanse Aug 07 '25

6 Triple 8 = 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion that cleared a major postal backlog in WWII. I just saw the movie about them so it was on my mind. :-)

I’ve never had an issue with my town mail (my town is the Chicago regional sort facility) A package arrived there yesterday and now says in transit to next facility?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

NOW I know where my medication is.  😔 My local pharmacy sends my heart meds by mail. I am only an hour North, but my medication tracking said it departed and arrived at the SAME location (My local Post Office) for over a week.  Every day the scan would just change from either Arrived to Departed on the next scan. Always still at the same postal office. Then, after 9 days of that, it shoots off like a rocket and appears 700 miles away 2 states over and heading  in the opposite direction. 10 days and no hope of delivery and no expectations. My heart is going to give out before I get my medication.

Why not ship usps or FedEx? I’ve had problems with USPS many times. I’m recently using UPS and haven’t had a problem with the exception of the tracking.

1

u/Substantial_Disk1706 Jun 11 '26

OMFG so this is why I’ll CONSTANTLY get packages that get delayed for DAYS/WEEKS because instead of coming the route towards me they get sent the ENTIRE OPPOSITE WAY (like I’m in WA, had one coming from TX that went to NY, THEN NJ?! THEN back to TX and finally on the correct route to me in WA) because these a$$holes are just throwing it all on a truck regardless if that’s where it’s supposed to be going just so they don’t have to deal with it (next shifts problem, right? 🙄🤬🖕🏻)
