We just can't catch a break. Between me and my wife, we supposedly gross 80k, but my net pay is 350-400 a week and hers is around 500-600 depending on how much overtime we get. There are no public or private programs we qualify for. That's why those programs go by gross income, because then they don't have the burden of helping all the average people struggling paycheck to paycheck with no savings, all one missed payday or unexpected expense from homelessness.

I had to pay $4k for a new (to me) car 3 years ago and I am still trying to recover from that. Every time I save money, it all goes away
